Well right now, the Avs have more cap space than anyone, but that certainly won't last forever, they need to plan ahead accordingly.

Makar could be Karlsson, Byram could be Doughty, they both could be looking for huge contracts, one right after the next, it's not an emergency, but it's only a couple years away, so Joe needs to start making room pretty soon.

Like Mitch Marner and Auston Matthews are setting the market, and it's 11 million plus coming out of ELC, so cap room is gone in a flash, if your top picks are superstars.

I'd say Leafs West has caught up to Leafs East and passed them already,  Mark Hunter Hockey Genius and Two Phones pretty much screwed the Leafs with bad picks and bad contracts and now Dubas is left with a mess to clean up.

Passed them and still have cap flexibility at least in the short term. Long term cap issues due to having to pay superstars in a few years being the worst of their problems, that says it all about how far they've come since that 48 point season.

Gentleman Joe has done a fantastic job, Two Phones not so much.

Dubas and his eternal patience thing is starting to wear thin too, things are not improving by waiting, contracts are not getting cheaper, asking prices are not going down, and frankly he has to make his move, he's out of time, so it's time to pick somebody and trade them already.

And just sign Marner already, you're gonna have to cave, the deal doesn't get better when he signs an offer sheet, there's no hometown discount, so just get on with it and make the moves to clear other people out to make room.

I don't see an offer sheet coming, because no one offer sheets anyone anymore, for fear of retribution and the good ol' boys dynamic of the NHL. But yeah the sooner they sign him the better.

The deal doesn't get better if he sits out neither, what's the point of going through the Nylander thing all over again when you're just going to cave in the end?

He's worth Matthews money, just give him Matthews money, he's not taking significantly less, at most you're talking about saving a million, million and a half bucks,  that's Connor Brown, it's not worth the hassle, just give Marner his money and dump Brown's contract for whatever you can get, problem solved, move on.

Indeed, the media will bitch about overpaying, but have the balls to take the media bullsh*t, because if you pull another Nylander, they are going to tear you apart, and rightfully so if you go down that road. There is no winning with those media f*gs, unless you accomplish the impossible, so no point in trying.

 There's this idiotic theory going around that you can't win if you pay anyone 10 million plus, because no team who has won a cup has paid anyone that much when they won. The media is pretending paying your superstars that much spells doom, and without them taking a team friendly discount you can't win the cup, it's next level retarded.

You lose by overpaying good role players, not paying superstars market value, but that doesn't stop the media from pretending otherwise.

Yeah that's obviously a fallacy, Chicago didn't suck because the Toews and Kane contract, Chicago just sucked because they sucked.

It's not about building a perfect on paper team, it comes down to who gets hot at the right time or not, and goaltending.

If the Leafs get off to a slow start, that could provide the excuse to finally fire him, better than wasting another year on him heading into the playoffs and giving him one more shot that he doesn't deserve. Better to fire him and hope to bring in someone mid-season who can pull off the Berube effect.

Leafs dump Marleau to the Buncha Jerks, had to give up a conditional 2020 first rounder and swap a seventh round pick for a sixth round pick to do it. The condition is if it's a top 10 pick in 2020, then it's 2021 first rounder instead.

Avs take Drew Helleson of the USNTDP at 47th overall. Not sure the Avs need defense at this point, but if you're going to take one, he's a good option.
