Abortion, gay marriage, gun rights, pathway to citizenship and his general belief that Government can regulate away society's problems......a night and day difference.

Gay marriage and pathways to citizenship didn't come up much in Reagan's time. But I note that it seems, to you, that being a Republican is not about providing stable and intelligent government and good fiscal policy, but hot button issues which affect only a tiny percentage of people. Being a Republican is about gays, guns, god and hating foreigners, oh, and hating government itself.

You realize that sounds more like the policy of redneck anarchists than a respectable, intelligent political party?

Aren't there any real conservatives down south?

Interesting slant on history.......

How is that? "Hot button issues" are used by both sides, like any other democratic country.......as most people are single (or very few) issue voters.

Being a Republican is about gays, guns, god and hating foreigners, oh, and hating government itself.

No, that is simply a reflection of a portion of the voting public that consider those issues important.

Yet, imagine a world where there was only Coke (but no Pepsi), a world with no choice, no borders. No alternative. Imagine a world where there was no choice except to be as one.

You mean a world with only one government to keep an eye on instead of 200?

Sounds pretty good to me.

I said now watch what you say they'll be calling you a radical,
a liberal, oh fanatical criminal

The crooked rules of the DNC are going to allow Clinton to leave New Hampshire with as many delegates as Sanders. Despite him beating her by 25 points.

Hey, you were the guy who said that Bloomberg being gay friendly set him apart from Reagan. Now you post a cite which says Reagan was gay friendly. I'm confused.

I know one thing. Not many, if any of the current Republican candidates would have opposed that proposition.

How is that? "Hot button issues" are used by both sides,

All the Republican hot button issues are social issues. They are distractions from what's important.

No, that is simply a reflection of a portion of the voting public that consider those issues important.

Idiots, you mean?

You suggested gay rights/immigrants weren't a political issue back then.......Reagan never supported gay marriage, unlike Bloomberg today, yet that doesn't mean Republicans then, like now, are "anti-gay" or "anti-migrant", and their positions are far more nuanced then you suggest.

All the Republican hot button issues are social issues. They are distractions from what's important.

All Democrat "hot button issues" are social issues.......issues, like Republican issues, that are important to differing voters.

Idiots, you mean?

No.

I really like how Rubio said that his disappointing finish was on him. He needs to stick things out until Jeb leaves the race. They share a lot of the same voters. The latest poll has Trump at 31, Cruz at 25 and Rubio at 20 in South Carolina, which is fairly good news for the Rubio campaign.

What poll is that? The latest polls I've seen for South Carolina were taken nearly a week before Iowa........

Trump and Cruz are allied against the GOP party establishment. They need to force weaker hands out as soon as possible. Bush has the money to hang around.....Rubio doesn't.

It's unofficial as of yet. I think its internal polling from some of the campaign.

Though I think Bill Kristol is trustworthy, I'll wait until an official poll is released......with that, from your link, the rumor says its not from a campaign team.

Trump and Cruz will be at each others necks in South Carolina.......as of now, both have adds out against the other.

That's OK as long as Trump and Cruz occupy most of the voting bandwidth...together. Keep Rubio, Bush, Kasich, and the other pretenders on the bottom.

Trump and Cruz, combined, don't represent the majority of the party, hence, wouldn't receive the nomination.......until this changes, they are just as much pretenders.

This is why we play the games. Otherwise they would have just nominated Jeb Bush by now.

Something that Trump or Cruz may welcome compared to just having the fix in for Bush or Rubio.

Does Cruz have the money to make it to the convention? I know he has (well his wife has) deep pockets, maybe deeper than the Bush family, but I'm not sure how much of their own money they're spending.........furthermore, the longer Carson stays in the race (even in the basement) it takes votes away from Cruz, and in tight races with Trump, could be the difference....if Cruz looses a bunch of tight races, donors won't be as forth coming with the cash........

Cruz is reported to have raised about $50 million through December 2015, enough to last if spent prudently. Trump has very deep pockets but has hardly spent anything, letting his mouth earn lots of free pub. Carson did well in 2015, but is now trailing off as looney tunes and unorganized.

Lots of "strategery" ahead...will be fun to watch.

Without a doubt, but Carson still has a small base among the religious right, cutting Cruz's lawn........as I said before, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Trump is keeping Carson afloat, with the promise of something later on........VP? Secretary of Grain Pyramids?

Trump will toss the party the VP bone when/if the time comes. Carson would keep God fearing folk happy, but is becoming a bigger liability with each passing day.

I think a bigger liability to Cruz........

Evangelicals are spreading it around....Trump got the most in NH. Won't do as well in SC, but will keep pace with Cruz or Carson.

......And Rubio did well among them in Iowa....As I said though, Carson getting 3-4% from Cruz could be the difference for Trump and one of the establishment guys.
