In the sad case of Amanda Korody and Jeremy Nuttall, a pair of deluded addicts convicted of planning to plant a bomb at the BC Parliament buildings on Canada Day, the RCMP went above and beyond to get their man (and woman).

Over the course of the investigation, undercover officers posing as jihadi warriors gave Nuttall and Korody groceries, cigarettes, bus passes, cell phones, phone cards, clothing, cash and a portable hard drive.

They also provided the pair with a place to work on their terrorist scheme and a location to build the explosives, chauffeured them to various stores to purchase bomb-making equipment and transported them to and from Victoria and around the Lower Mainland over the course of the four-month sting operation.

Left to their own devices, the pair were reportedly more inclined to play video games than anything else. At least twice, they were castigated for failing to write terrorist plans for their undercover RCMP masters.. When they did prepare a plan, it was to attack a Via rail service in Victoria that had been discontinued 3 years earlier. Other plots hatched by the two included firing short range missiles and commandeering a nuclear submarine. Their RCMP handlers told them to come up with something more practical.

At one point, they demanded guidance from an Imam who would confirm that this was really in keeping with Islam. In the hours of secretly recorded conversations, they discussed backing out but expressed fear that their RCMP "jihadi warriors" would kill them.

In short, it's highly questionable whether these two would have done anything without assistance from the RCMP.

Here's the kicker. The investigation involved 240 officers for 4 months.

These clowns make the Keystone Cops look professional.

It's a little alarming to think that of 240 cops not one of them blew the whistle on this farce.

I am curious as to who was pushing "for something, anything" to happen. I am curious to see if Harper, who worked so hard to make us live in fear had a hand in this.

When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it--always. Gandhi

Of course he did. There's no way on Earth the PMO would be ignorant of the fact 240 RCMP were on the verge of preventing a major terrorist attack. If Harper didn't know then why not?

Because the PM is far to busy to be bothered with such mundane everyday occurrences?

In a pig's eye, a Royal Mounted Canadian one at that.

Human Rights Watch has expressed concerns over this case.

"What we've seen allegations of (in B.C.) are at least similar practices to what we've seen in the U.S.," said Prasow. "Federal law enforcement authorities targeting in sting operations people who are particularly vulnerable."

And the presiding judge came close to declaring a mistrial over inflammatory tactics used by the prosecution.

The compilation closed with footage of an actual pressure-cooker explosion demolishing a surrounding ring of plywood boards in a controlled detonation staged and filmed by police.

"That dramatic video production ... took my breath away with its impropriety," Bruce told Eccles.

"I don't know how I can bring the jury from a state of inflammatory to a state of neutral after you have created this American-television view of this trial."

Jeez, I can't think of anytime I've heard a judge that was so publicly critical of a case that a prosecutor has brought before them.

I can only imagine what the jury will think upon hearing about the judges criticisms after their deliberations, especially if they decide in favour of the Crown. This case seems to have appeal written all over it no matter which way it goes unless the new boss in the PMO orders the Crown to drop the case.

There's NOBODY in the RCMP who's wondering what or why the hell they got themselves into this in the first place? That's a problem isn't it?

It's too late - the jury has already found these two bozos guilty. Now the judge has to decide if the RCMP's illegal actions constitute entrapment.

All it would take is one whistle blower...I'm a little disturbed that no one from the RCMP has imploded in exasperation yet. This sure speaks to the calibre of people they must be recruiting. Sycophants above all else..

Just think back and try to remember how many times around the world has this happened in countries of Britain, US and Canada. Were those people really terrorists or just were setup to look like terrorist.

The equivalent would be for the RCMP to set up a dummy gang and then recruit vulnerable kids so they could be arrested.

It is kinda silly. I mean, by all means lock them up, because I don't care how many RCMP are egging me on, I'm not going to try and commandeer a nuclear sub.

Still, a truly distressing waste of resources.

I recall when this whole case was going down as I had just recently moved out of the area a few months prior. I lived a few blocks away from the legislative building and was very disturbed by it.

I don't agree agree with the entrapment but I'm wondering how this couple even came on their radar. Anyone know?

Also, I don't suppose these two were Syrian refugees were they?

Another example and reason why our spy services require close civilian oversight. If they behave in this manner when they know that they will be accountable then how would they react if they got the power of bill C-51 without strict civilian oversight and accountability?

Syrian refugees?   Good one. They were a pair of drug addicts who converted to Islam, which they apparently knew almost nothing about. This is what the media has reported about where the came from.

Nuttall and Korody espoused radical views, and Nuttall was unpopular at the Vancouver-area mosques he attended, court heard. Presumably, a worshipper or an imam tipped off police; the jury was never told what led to the investigation being launched.

One might wonder why, after hearing about the “absent-minded, scatterbrained” former addict and his former addict wife spouting pro-jihad slogans, police didn’t just appear on their doorstep, tell them their actions had been noted and they were being watched.

From the National Post.

Go and search Google news for Korody Nuttall terrorist. There are dozens of stories going back to 2013. All major news media.

I recall reading that the US was pressuring Canada to arrest some terrorists.

They 'knew' that many terrorists were getting into the US from Canada :/

There was some trade deal pending and they wouldn't sign until Canada arrested some terrorists.

So the RCMP, at Harper's bidding, created some terrorists.

:/

You forgot the /sarcasm tag...Unless you actually expect one.

Though it's sad that it's entirely possible that what jacee suggested happened to at least some extent.

A cite that definitively proves this would be difficult due to the opaque secretive conspiratorial nature of our governments.

The evidence of this nature that ethical hackers like Assange, Snowden and Anonymous have provided certainly underscores the possibility.

Ya I wish I could find it.

Maybe it was in the court reports from the trial.

Yeah I heard same thing, but I think it was based in part on a case in the U.S. of A, where a black guy was targeted because someone had a 'terrorist' quota to fill. I forget the details of that story. I believe the idea that our two drug-addled terrorists were a political scheme was floated on a talk-radio show.

But hey -- maybe the 240 RCMP made their aid so over-the-top just so these two wouldn't be convicted, but they'd still prove Canada was tough on terrorists. I'm sure there's a conspiracy here somewhere.
