dialamah Posted December 4, 2015 Report Posted December 4, 2015 Your brother-in-law isn't a practicing Muslim...thus not a Muslim. Well, he'd disagree with that, certainly, Are you part of ISIS, perhaps, to speak so confidently about who is and isn't Muslim?
Smallc Posted December 4, 2015 Report Posted December 4, 2015 Islam's claim is that the deities are the same. They are the same. That the fake religion one guy created came later is no reason to say otherwise.
Guest Posted December 4, 2015 Report Posted December 4, 2015 (edited) Christianity had its moments of violence. Islam never stopped. Well, you'll get no argument from me on degree. Edited December 4, 2015 by bcsapper
DogOnPorch Posted December 4, 2015 Report Posted December 4, 2015 They are the same. That the fake religion one guy created came later is no reason to say otherwise. Huh? What I'm saying is that the whole claim that the deities are the same comes from Islam...good PR point for the non-Muslims, I'd assume. Christianity did the same with Judaism...minus Islam's conquering armies. Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.
Smallc Posted December 4, 2015 Report Posted December 4, 2015 Huh? What I'm saying is that the whole claim that the deities are the same comes from Islam. And who are you to dispute that claim? They're all fake, after all.
DogOnPorch Posted December 4, 2015 Report Posted December 4, 2015 And just so we're all clear after my year away...I'm still a rabid atheist. Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.
DogOnPorch Posted December 4, 2015 Report Posted December 4, 2015 And who are you to dispute that claim? They're all fake, after all. You and I could discuss that as the Jihadis go down the line shootin' us. Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.
Smallc Posted December 4, 2015 Report Posted December 4, 2015 I think this is interesting: http://www.npr.org/player/v2/mediaPlayer.html?action=1&t=1&islist=false&id=124494788&m=124838297 It seems that religion is less the problem than the culture and the lack of education.
Guest Posted December 4, 2015 Report Posted December 4, 2015 (edited) And just so we're all clear after my year away...I'm still a rabid atheist. Me too. Although I have been seeing some proof of a purely malevolent God. It usually involves computer cables. Edited December 4, 2015 by bcsapper
DogOnPorch Posted December 4, 2015 Report Posted December 4, 2015 Me too. Although I have been seing some proof of a purely malevolent God. It usually involves computer cables. Cooling fans...the Devil lives in the cooling fans. Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.

I can't hear that on my PC, but I would say that culture and lack of education are the primary reasons why interpretations go so badly wrong.
dialamah Posted December 4, 2015 Report Posted December 4, 2015 I can't hear that on my PC, but I would say that culture and lack of education are the primary reasons why interpretations go so badly wrong. I think a dash of poverty and a seasoning of military actions from alien forces also contributes.
Smallc Posted December 4, 2015 Report Posted December 4, 2015 I can't hear that on my PC, but I would say that culture and lack of education are the primary reasons why interpretations go so badly wrong. It's actually a very interesting piece for something so concise. The Bible is equally if not more violent than the Quran. The opposite is true of their respective followers. The problem lies in the literal interpretation by the followers of Islam, something that doesn't happen in Christianity outside of places like the Central African Republic and Uganda anymore (at least, not all that often).

That does not explain why Mr Living-The-American-Dream + wife shot-up the workplace like it was Verdun. Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.
Smallc Posted December 4, 2015 Report Posted December 4, 2015 That does not explain why Mr Living-The-American-Dream + wife shot-up the workplace like it was Verdun. That particular act is not limited to Muslims.

Guest Posted December 4, 2015 Report Posted December 4, 2015 That does not explain why Mr Living-The-American-Dream + wife shot-up the workplace like it was Verdun. That's why I said primary. The fact that countries can still have the death penalty for blasphemy, for example. I have no idea where their intepretation came from.
DogOnPorch Posted December 4, 2015 Report Posted December 4, 2015 That's why I said primary. The fact that countries can still have the death penalty for blasphemy, for example. I have no idea where their intepretation came from. The Quran has a verse for everything.... Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.
bush_cheney2004 Posted December 4, 2015 Report Posted December 4, 2015 Plausible, but NPR has an American bias...would need another comparison from an Islamic state. Economics trumps Virtue.
DogOnPorch Posted December 4, 2015 Report Posted December 4, 2015 That particular act is not limited to Muslims. Starting wars isn't limited to Germans. But...by golly....when they do... Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.
DogOnPorch Posted December 4, 2015 Report Posted December 4, 2015 That is true of any religion or sect of. No one follows all of it - not even the most devout. School in many parts of the planet consists of memorizing the Quran. Back to front. Not just reading it through. Islam is remarkably homogeneous. Two major branches (and a handful of other small branches) whose main difference is who got to be the boss after Big Mo kicked the bucket. Not a lot of 'interpretation' going on if you ask me... Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.
Smallc Posted December 4, 2015 Report Posted December 4, 2015 Islam is remarkably homogeneous. That's definitely not my experience.
DogOnPorch Posted December 4, 2015 Report Posted December 4, 2015 (edited) That's definitely not my experience. As an ideology...yes. Muslims, though, are indeed diverse. You can be a Muslim. Just convert. Edited December 4, 2015 by DogOnPorch Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.
eyeball Posted December 4, 2015 Report Posted December 4, 2015 (edited) You can't hold an abstraction responsible for anything. You can only hold the people responsible, and consider that abstraction the reason for their actions if they tell you it is. The same is true of that which muslims hold us responsible for.
