Smallc Posted October 19, 2015 Report Posted October 19, 2015 I'm not holding my breath for electoral reform under the Liberals, if they win tomorrow. If they fulfilled all of their other democratic reform promises I'd be pretty happy. I'm not totally sold on PR, but STV is what I'd like if we go that way. Quote

ReeferMadness Posted October 19, 2015 Report Posted October 19, 2015 (edited) Nothing wrong with the policy. People need to care enough to make them follow through. AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT immediately after the next election, an all-Party process be instituted, involving expert assistance and citizen participation, to report to Parliament within 12 months with recommendations for electoral reforms including, without limitation, a preferential ballot and/or a form of proportional representation, to represent Canadians more fairly and serve Canada better. ToadBrother Posted October 19, 2015 Report Posted October 19, 2015 I would make it part of the same deal. Each province gets 10 senate seats and accepts true rep by pop as a compromise. Triple E is dead. It's singin' with the choir eternal. It's no more. It's an ex-amendment. Quote
On Guard for Thee Posted October 19, 2015 Report Posted October 19, 2015 Well only three more time zones to cross and the campaign will be officially over. Thankfully! Quote

ToadBrother Posted October 19, 2015 Report Posted October 19, 2015 I only want 1 of the E...well, two if you could effective. The reference opinion killed it. Harper's allowing of the Senate numbers to drop so low will allow Trudeau too stadk the place with, er, liberal-like Senators, the fervor for reform will die down (thank goodness) and maybe we can see some parliamentary reform that doesn't require tearing the constitution open. Topaz Posted October 19, 2015 Report Posted October 19, 2015 I'd like to see the Tories drop to third or fourth but even if he's in second place Harper, then could be called to testify in the Duffy case and can't hide behind the PMO. No wonder he's been trying so hard to win! Quote

No wonder he's been trying so hard to win! So long as Harper is an MP, he is protected by Parliamentary privilege. But seeing as no one has implicated him in any direct knowledge of the payout, there won't be any appearance. Quote

ToadBrother Posted October 19, 2015 Report Posted October 19, 2015 The Liberals are just not ready. I think they're as ready as any new government is ready. I mainly don't want them to win a majority, because if they do, I'm almost certain they'll find a way to stymie electoral reform. Quote
eyeball Posted October 19, 2015 Report Posted October 19, 2015 What do you mean? Just have one 4 seat riding for PEI. Actually, if it were up to me, I'd have one each for the 4 maritime provinces. I know that wouldn't fly but I think that local representation is highly overrated. Overrated almost entirely by people who overrate FPTP.
