Euro centric Canadians who have been here 3 or more generations I'm guessing. You really didn't know this?

The CBC is just upset because they were snubbed and don't get debates this time around. Cry more cbc.

Maybe Harper refers to folks like the potty mouthed Tory supporter who referred to the press as "piles of sh*t". Old, white and Conservative, Harper's perfect definition of old stock Canadians.

When the people have no tyrant, their public opinion becomes one.

You mean trudeau when he called a cabinet minister in the house of commons a piece of shit. Trudeau just not ready and never will be,especially after last nites debate.

What's wrong with being white?

What's wrong with being old?

Nothing wrong with being old and white, but it's a bit of a branding challenge in that:

- Older people care about politics

- Older people vote

- Older people die off more frequently, and the older they are the more mortal

- Parties like to appear vital and focused on 'the future'

Putting these things together, you end up with a brand image that's the equivalent of a 45-year old in mom/dad jeans thinking they're hip because they dance to a "rap" song at their niece's wedding.

Same as above.

It's politicized conservatism that makes everything worse, even worse than religion.

A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.

All of these things are ok until the definition changes from "a group of people who follow a set of principles" to the point where the principles are secondary and the social desires to conform, deflect and stick to the tribe overcome the desires to follow the principles.

I like the 'live free or die' thing. Maybe I'll be a conservative one day if they ever make it about that instead of being cranky about gay Muslims on your front lawn or whatever they care about...

I see. No study has been done but I won say most active members here are over 40 and white. As a demographic.

Not me. Second-class citizen all the way!

Non-white, female, middle-class... I'm pretty much on their "Do Not Call" list. lol

As an "old stock Canadian", I feel like I should apologize on behalf of our "old stock Prime Minister". I'd like to say that he meant well and his heart is in the right place; but I'm not even remotely confident either of those things are true.

Unlimited economic growth has the marvelous quality of stilling discontent while preserving privilege, a fact that has not gone unnoticed among liberal economists.

What a nice thing to say, Reefermadness, thank you. It hurt me to no end, to be honest, when C-24 came about. I've always been so proud of my country, but that was a huge slap in the face.

It's nice to see 'old-stock' Canadians disagree with these divisions.

As for Haper's personal views, I agree. I think if he could find a way to loophole to deport First Nations, he would.

It's a huge slap in the face for dual citizens who are convicted of treason or terrorism related charges to remain Canadian citizens?

But if you put your hand up, I'm pretty sure they'd get your picture on one of their flyers. :)

True. And front row invitations for any televised events. :)

That beer was my first love when I came to Canada. The extra alcohol did its charm no harm.

And if you can speak without swearing every other word, have never Tweeted, and no criminal record or blotchy past you can probably get nominated for MP in a sure-loss riding.

Nice.

ETA - the "sure-loss riding" was the best part.

I've heard those candidates referred to as "sacrificial lambs".
