Big Guy Posted September 18, 2015 Report Posted September 18, 2015 What are "Old Stock Canadians"? http://www.cbc.ca/news/trending/canada-election-2015-globe-debate-weird-moments-1.3233233 And what did Harper mean in invoking the use of that term? Quote Note - For those expecting a response from Big Guy: I generally do not read or respond to posts longer then 300 words nor to parsed comments.
Canada_First Posted September 18, 2015 Report Posted September 18, 2015 (edited) Euro centric Canadians who have been here 3 or more generations I'm guessing. You really didn't know this? The CBC is just upset because they were snubbed and don't get debates this time around. Cry more cbc. Edited September 19, 2015 by Charles Anthony deleted re-copied Opening Post Quote

Michael Hardner Posted September 18, 2015 Report Posted September 18, 2015 Nothing wrong with being old and white, but it's a bit of a branding challenge in that: - Older people care about politics - Older people vote - Older people die off more frequently, and the older they are the more mortal - Parties like to appear vital and focused on 'the future' Putting these things together, you end up with a brand image that's the equivalent of a 45-year old in mom/dad jeans thinking they're hip because they dance to a "rap" song at their niece's wedding. eyeball Posted September 18, 2015 Report Posted September 18, 2015 What's wrong with being white? Nothing, until you throw conservatism into the mix. Quote A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.
eyeball Posted September 18, 2015 Report Posted September 18, 2015 What's wrong with being old? Same as above. It's politicized conservatism that makes everything worse, even worse than religion. Quote A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.
Michael Hardner Posted September 18, 2015 Report Posted September 18, 2015 It's politicized conservatism that makes everything worse, even worse than religion. All of these things are ok until the definition changes from "a group of people who follow a set of principles" to the point where the principles are secondary and the social desires to conform, deflect and stick to the tribe overcome the desires to follow the principles. I like the 'live free or die' thing. Maybe I'll be a conservative one day if they ever make it about that instead of being cranky about gay Muslims on your front lawn or whatever they care about... BC_chick Posted September 18, 2015 Report Posted September 18, 2015 What a nice thing to say, Reefermadness, thank you. It hurt me to no end, to be honest, when C-24 came about. I've always been so proud of my country, but that was a huge slap in the face. It's nice to see 'old-stock' Canadians disagree with these divisions. As for Haper's personal views, I agree.
