Canada vs Duffy vs PMO

Recommended Posts

... except that the Conservative Senators have not "stepped up" any more than have the Liberal senators in so far as "paying back". Many of both parties have already paid back, many have started to pay back, some (of both parties) have been sent to the RCMP.

The only real difference between the parties that I can see, is that there is no evidence to suggest that somebody is COVERING UP just how that money is being paid back..... except in this one interesting case.(so far).

How much money do you spend over a $90,000 issue that is questionable in the first place. It looks like Duffy was prosecuted to satisfy the media. Harper should have let the audit run its course and let the Senate deal with it in due course instead of taking a principled stand over the expenses and trying to get Duffy to pay them back in anticipation of the audit results. This is a non-issue except that it shows Harper used some poor judgement in trying to be seen as standing up for a principle.

Nigel Wright is a victim of trying to save Duffy from being perceived as abusing the rules.

People are tiring of the media constantly stalking harper with the same questions over and over. This is a election yr and we need more info on policies that will affect us, not just duffy duffy and more duffy.

Harper was unusually testy taking questions at his northern stop today. How long can he not answer questions on why others involved in the PMO cover-up were not fired or demoted. This includes his current chief of staff Ray Novak.

We all know about angry Tom, is angry Stephen about to explode?

Well, I had it half right.

Today Conservative supporters attacked media questions directed to Harper over the Duffy/PMO scandal. One of the hecklers later exploded, accusing one reporter of not paying her taxes and telling her she was "a pile of s*it".

Later the CPC issued an apology.

This deplorable situation could be avoided if Harper would actually answer questions.

The only reason the story has been kept in the news is to create "smear". Sadly, for the news media, the story isn't growing legs. One would think the news media would be hounding the NDP for the $2.7 million which they diverted from parliamentary expense payments to carry on political activity. They were convicted of this crime and have not yet re-paid a nickle! Some may call that "swindle"

We've been through this before. Duffy is accused of extorting the PMO, and that's why he's charged with taking a bribe. The PMO, under the Crowns case, is seen as a victim, as are the Canadian people.

The emails prove that this is BS. That the PMO cooked up a scheme, insisted that Duffy not cooperate with Deloitte or the RCMP, and got frustrated when their plans weren't working. But Conservative partisans don't really care about those facts. They prefer making up their own.

Garbage. It is increasingly clear that the case against Wright and the PMO is being drummed up by unscrupulous people on the left who will stop at nothing to bring down Harper. This is politics -- and we have seen it all before. I expect it will backfire on the left before election day.

Yeah. All those unscrupulous left wingers in the Justice Department.

clearly! Saint Duffy didn't want to do it... that brute Wright was relentless doing the PMO dirty work. Isn't "media lines" such a quaint qualifier for "cover-up and deceive the Canadian public"? The "media lines" that Wright fully acknowledged Harper was party/privy to!

Here is an article listing senators accused of improper spending:

http://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/exclusive-breakdown-of-sums-that-30-senators-are-alleged-to-owe-1.2411218

It is clear that Liberal Senators are the big spenders.

TOP FOUR

Rod Zimmer: $176,014 (appointed by Paul Martin)

Marie Charette-Poulin: $131,434 (appointed by Jean Chretien)

Rose-Marie Losier-Cool: $110,000 (appointed by Chretien)

Sandra Lovelace Nicholas: $75,207 (appointed by Martin)

It would have been nice for the Liberal party to step up, as the Conservative party has, to ensure this money is repaid to the taxpayers as soon as possible.

In fairness, Trudeau removed all the senators from the Liberal caucus.

The Conservatives, by contrast, tried to control the audit and cover up the malfeasance. See the difference?

Why do you not give us a direct quote by Harper in which he says that he fired Wright? Why are you incapable of giving us a direct quote?

I will tell you why: YOU cannot find one because there is not such quote.

Harper has never changed his story on who knew what or when. Harper revealed more info as he was made aware. That is not changing a story.

wtf. Really?

I wasn't talking about Harper firing Wright but this is far too easy.

Here

“As you know I had a chief of staff who made an inappropriate payment to Mr. Duffy. He was dismissed.‎”

Anything else?

Do the Conservatives feed you talking points directly? Or do you need to go and get them yourself from their website?

note to moderator: a post replay (within this same thread) because a certain member keeps feigning ignorance and keeps asking for something already provided!

Harper now says he fired chief of staff for $90,000 cheque to Duffy

Stephen Harper is changing the story on how his chief aide left the Prime Minister’s office after it was revealed Nigel Wright personally bailed out beleaguered Senator Mike Duffy.

Mr. Harper revealed Monday morning in a Halifax radio interview that Mr. Wright was fired from his job as chief of staff in the PMO.

Previously the Conservative Leader has always said the Bay Street executive resigned the top job in the Prime Minister’s office.

‎"I think the responsibility whenever things go wrong is for us to take appropriate action,” Mr. Harper told News 95.7 Halifax.

“As you know I had a chief of staff who made an inappropriate payment to Mr. Duffy. He was dismissed.‎”

on edit: not necessary as member Reefer took care of the (socialist's) Madness!

and if Duffy is acquitted of accepting a bribe? Quite the spectacle... the guy receiving is "the bribee"... the guy giving IS NOT "the briber"!

Yup strange. As I understand it, they don't think they can prove intent in the case of Wright. Although, the emails seem fairly compelling to me.

Where did you get that idea? If Wright were dismissed with cause (fired), there would be a letter to this effect stating the reasons. Wright would have been able to appeal this under the Employment Standards Act. Nothing like this happened. Alternatively, Wright could have been dismissed without cause, in which case he would have received severance pay. There has been no indication this happened. If he tendered his resignation, he would not have received severance, and he was effectively dismissed when the resignation was accepted. Trying to spin this on semantics is a childish game. It won't convince anyone, and it just embarrasses you, making people less inclined to read any more of your comments.

The direct quote was in the Globe story that was posted to you.

You are being deceptive, again!

Harper has never, ever said he fired Wright.

It is correct by saying that Harper said he dismissed Wright.

Wright resigned, Harper accepted the resignation and thereby dismissed Wright.
