Canada vs Duffy vs PMO

Recommended Posts

Today the trial starts and I do hope that the end of the trial, those guilty pays dearly for it and I also hope ALL questions will be answered like....if HARPER didn't know about the personal cheque by Wright, how does one explain the statement of Wright....I'll go check with the PM before giving the money and minutes later... its a good to go!! Where did Harper think the money was coming from?? IF Duffy is guilty of a bribe, why isn't Wright guilty of giving one?? Since this party have been known for breaking laws legally and morally, why is this situation any different from their own record. http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/mike-duffy-senate-expenses-trial-puts-spotlight-on-his-side-of-story-1.3022689

What nigel did is nothing compared to what he did with the donohue guy. Harper tried to get the money back for the taxpayer. Having Donohue paying off his trainer and make up person with our money (not nigels) is true fraud. This wont hurt harper but make him look like a guy that acts when people do something wrong.

Think you are a bit mixed up, Donahue was hired by Duffy, not Wright.

One thing that will hurt Harper is his constantly changing story as to how Wright left the PMO.

I'll be curious to see how Duffy can be guilty of taking a bribe if Wright isn't guilty of giving one. I suspect that charge will be dropped.

.

If the receiver puts constraints on the acceptance of the money that can constitute fraud.

At least as it was explained to me yesterday.

Not mixed up at all. Donohue case is different then the nigel one. And what do you mean harper constantly changed his story. I know the MSM and people here are trying to make this all about harper but it is not, it is duffys fraud trial. Harper will come out of this with no problems.

Your post seemed to say otherwise with regard ro Donahue. And you dont need to rely on the MSM to see the blatant shift in Harpers story about Wrights departure from the PMO, you just have to replay QP and there you have it right from the horses... let me be very clear. mouth.

Of course, its not the fate of Mr. Duffy that has created enormous interest in this trial. Its the fate of the government. It is the morality, the integrity of the Conservative Party hierarchy, that is on trial.

Most of the accusations facing Mr. Duffy himself involve alleged little embezzlements relating to expense accounts. But abuse of the public trust by way of an alleged coverup operation involving top officials in the Prime Ministers Office, as Mr. Duffys team claim, is much more serious.

There is no way that this trial can live up to all the hype. The Canadian media is playing this up as if it is Watergate 2015. These kinds of trials are basically boring with pundits from both sides spinning like there is no tomorrow. The Conservatives will refuse comment on anything that looks bad for them with "It is still before the courts" but mouthpieces will be challenging the credibility of the witnesses.

If it does create any news then the Harper government will reap a benefit. As the economy continues to tank it is better that people focus on Duffy then their pocketbook.

Jacee you can wish all you want that this is not good for Harper, it means nothing. Outside of Ottawa no one cares except liberals looking for whatever they can get their hands on to run with. And what people will see is PMO that comes down hard on offenders. We see billions being poiss3ed away every day in ONT. But yet the MSM is trying to make something out of this and it is going nowhere. Harb case is even worse.

If you think outside of Ottawa no one cares, you need a reality check. Most Canadians are tired of Ottawa abusing the taxpayers financially and with this Conservative party, they have abused the system more than other party to date! If the next election is truly honest, Harper will be gone, just like the rest of his party are doing..........going.... going .....gone!!!!!!!!!

Your feeble attempts to diminish what has gone on, and to minimize the impact for Canadians is at best laughable.

The judge has had to set up a separate room to handle the overflow of reporters who have checked in to follow the trial.

That means one thing, Canadians outside of Ottawa are interested.

If you're a Conservative - that's probably a good thing. The Duffy affair has been hyped up to levels unheard of - today's news is that he could serve 212 years in prison if not for our non-consecutive sentencing! This whole charade is just waiting to have the air taken out of it - it has nowhere to go but down - be reduced to some inconsequential charges relating mostly to his seemingly fictitious "contractor" payments. And when the judge rules - and Canadians find out it was much ado about nothing, they will be even further jaded by the sensationalist-seeking media. So be careful what you wish for - the results could actually benefit Harper.

Hyped? Thats hyperbole.

And yes, we do have consecutive sentencing so no ideaa what you mean.

Hmmm....Crowns consulting with others, lawyer reviews and so on, but someone on the internet says charade, inconsequential.....I think I will go with the Crowns assertion that there is enough to go to a trial on.

YMMV

And when the judge rules - and Canadians find out it was much ado about nothing,

Why have a trial?

You have spoken.

Over-hyped media flatulence - that's what I mean.....212 years in prison?........Duffy?

Well I guess they should have called you and you could have adjudicated this over the phone and save the courts the money.

But generally, when the crown is brought the evidence, they weigh it, they review it, they make a call on whether a conviction or not can be had. If not, they decline charges.

I, unlike you, would rather this get heard, and if its allhogwash (we know it isnt ) then the right sentence or none will come of it.

Any time a report is in the papers, the min and the max is given.

Some people with an agenda like to mock the simple facts about the case, like laughing at the possible max sentence.

Glad to see you are off the Canada doesnt have consecutive sentence junk.

You might want to take your complaint to the reporter:

Suspended Senator Mike Duffy faces a maximum of 212 years in potential prison sentences in addition to possible fines if convicted on all 31 charges.

However, as sentences are not strung out back-to-back in Canada, incarceration usually doesn’t exceed the maximum of the most severe charges, which in Duffy’s case could be as much as 14 years for bribery or 14 years for fraud against government.

It is, and will, create a lot of news, and Harper will certainly not benefit from it.

Throwing Duffy under the prison bus.

.

He deserves to be thrown under some bus. Guilty under the law or not, he has no respect for the people who pay his way. But that isn't unque among the inhabitants of Disneyland on the Rideau.

Oh I agree he deserves it ... and so do those who created the environment where he and others felt entitled to rip off the taxpayers.
