Keepitsimple Posted December 10, 2014 Report Posted December 10, 2014 (edited) Another example of Trudeau's "open nomination" process blows up. In an embarrassing blow to Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau, a large group of Sikh Liberals in British Columbia is quitting the party, saying Trudeau is being "manipulated" by Sikhs under the banner of the World Sikh Organization. "We think this Liberal Party's been hijacked by the WSO," said Rajinder Singh Bhela, a longtime Liberal and former general secretary of the Ross Street Temple, Vancouver's largest Sikh temple. Ottawa-area Liberal nomination draws protest "The Liberal Party, especially Justin, is in bed with extremist and fundamental groups. That's why I decided to leave the Liberal Party," said Kashmir Dhaliwal, ex-president of the powerful Khalsa Diwan Society, founded by Sikh pioneers in 1902. guyser Posted December 10, 2014 Report Posted December 10, 2014 Any chance Raj Bhela is just a lousy candidate and is slinging mud to cover that fact? Quote
Argus Posted December 10, 2014 Report Posted December 10, 2014 Any chance Raj Bhela is just a lousy candidate and is slinging mud to cover that fact? Riding associations are rarely happy when the bosses in Ottawa tell them who their candidate is going to be. guyser Posted December 10, 2014 Report Posted December 10, 2014 (edited) Riding associations are rarely happy when the bosses in Ottawa tell them who their candidate is going to be.Yes, I get that, especially when the one who is, isnt the one they want. But like most things, throwing out the wild statement of 'in bed with' is a red flag for me these days. If I said, Harper is in bed with Communist killers , I suppose I would be 'sort-of ' right. He did go to China and met people who have had other people offed. And that would raise a red flag from you and others (and me should someone post such). Theres a nuance to these things that since I have not much to go on in the Sikh community, I asked. Edited December 10, 2014 by Guyser2 Quote
Derek 2.0 Posted December 11, 2014 Report Posted December 11, 2014 This, combined with Andrew Leslie's troubles speaks to the Liberal's typical problem of attempting to be all things to everyone.......with that said, the handpicked Liberal in the riding is a decorated war hero, and the first Indo-Canadian to command a regiment....security clearance alone, I'd question any claims to ties with radical groups...... WestCoastRunner Posted December 11, 2014 Report Posted December 11, 2014 I was wondering how long it would take for this to be posted. It's a non-issue and not a blow-up. It's a handful from the sikh community and will not have a big impact. Quote I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the lapels. Life's a bitch. It's a handful from the sikh community and will not have a big impact. That's open to debate........the riding in question is the epitome of "battleground", likewise the potential impact in other ridings with larger Sikh communities like the various Surrey/Delta/Abbotsford ridings. Are you referring to the Veterans Charter that was tabled by the Liberals and supported by both the Tories and NDP? If so, there are numerous threads on the subject............ With that, instances in tight local ridings in which a large swath of voters state they won't vote for your candidate is something to take notice.......failing to do so is your own peril....... Quote

I'm kinda liking how Harper is making Fantino dance the funky chicken of late because he has a PR problem. Much the same as when he had to smack Calandra, Polievre, et al down for their stupid comments. But I love watching the foot go into the mouth. Especially as we head into election cycle. Quote

overthere Posted December 12, 2014 Report Posted December 12, 2014 The Liberals have to be a bit careful, those safe seats in ethnic ridings can get turned around in a hurry. Take Edmonton Southeast, which was a riding with a huge South Asian population that was owned outright for many years by Liberal David Kilgour. He and the Libs pissed off the locals something awful around 2005 in nomination and riding assocaition disputes and now they are in a distant third place. The riding has changed names now but it still has the same ethnic balance, and they vote strategically Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!

Keepitsimple Posted December 12, 2014 Author Report Posted December 12, 2014 So you're calling a decorated Canadian soldier (the nominated candidate) a "Sikh extremist"? I made no such claim. I provided a CBC article that quoted sources claining that Trudeau was getting too close to extremist elements of the Sikh community. Read the article and draw from it whatever credibility you wish. My point was that Trudeau's "open nominations" have been proven to be not so open - and it's blowing up on him. Quote Back to Basics
