Tuesday Nov 11 2014 Remembrance Day

Make a donation, wear your poppy proudly and take the time to remember.

I like to give some cash to the bartender at the local legion branch so that a few vets can have a free wobbly pop after the service.

Why leave it? You haven't answered the question.

Glorification of war perhaps. As we speak Harper is spending 83 million of your and my dollars to completely recreate what happened at Vimy for the very same purpose. I think the term that has been applied is "Vimyification"

So, you don't understand what it's about. That's fine.

It's always symbolism over substance to them. You can't apprechiate the sacrifice people made in the past without it "glorifying" war. It's a with us or against us mentality. No nuance at all.

Yes I do know what it's about.I have a different opinion about it's current relevance. But that's fine.

So the relevance of remembering past sacrifice is less relevant today? That makes absolutely no sense. But I can't say that I'm all that surprised.

Do I need to wear a poppy in order to remember? The fact is, we are talking about wars that occurred either 70, or 100 years ago. Maybe you should stop bowing your head and open your eyes. But you'll probably buy Harper's nonsense, and I am not all that surprised.

Not at all. You don't seem to know that poppies are about sacrafice, honour, and loss...not about the actual wars which you can choose to agree or disagree with. You're the one that always paints yourself in such a negative light, not me.

Oh I'm not negative at all. I'm just not in a fantasy.

I can't believe that even this thread has disintegrated to a left vs right issue.

Not always, it's also a matter of principle over symbolism - an unwillingness to use the past sacrifices people made fighting tyranny to whitewash people's cowardly support for tyranny in the present.

I said now watch what you say they'll be calling you a radical,
a liberal, oh fanatical criminal

It's part of the far left's mantra. They've "evolved."

Why did you bring in the 'left'?

Well said...........Its a sad reflection that some have lost sight of the actual intent of Remembrance Day.

For God's sake. It's Remembrance Day! Let's forget politics for at least one day!

I doubt like hell you'll get any meaningful answer to that. In any case let me point out I am in no way trying to disrespect anyone who lost their life fighting those or other wars. Just let's not pin a flower to our lapel and ignore what actually happened.
