Guess where they put the PM, in the broom closet and was told to stay their until someone with a key let him out. No wonder he was hugging the opposition leaders! The unknown is always scary and perhaps they should hookup a monitor in each party's caucus room so they know whats going on out in the hallways. http://thechronicleherald.ca/canada/1245968-stephen-harper-was-rushed-into-broom-closet-during-ottawa-shooting

These guys never miss a chance to let their authoritarian freak flags fly:

Conservatives mulling legislation making it illegal to condone terrorist acts online

There is frustration in government, and among law enforcement agencies, that the authorities can’t detain or arrest people who express sympathy for atrocities committed overseas and who may pose a threat to public safety, one Conservative MP said. “Do we need new offences? If so which?”

Sources suggest the government is likely to bring in new hate speech legislation that would make it illegal to claim terrorist acts are justified online.

I have some questions can anyone answer them? First, are there honour guards at the memorial 24/7 365 days, where the guy get the gun and who took that picture of him getting into the car?? Also last week, many thing were weird, like Harper showing up on a Monday for QP, which he usually doesn't do and he leaving but coming back with a slip of paper, then the backbencher asking the question about the soldier that was hit by the car and suggesting it was a terrorist attack.

After some searching I did find that the honour guards are usually there from June to the end of August , so why were these guys there? Also, on the radio, many people are asking about the security cameras surround the Hill and if a live person are monitoring them and if not why? It been reported that there are over 70 and there is one at the Memorial, which is across the street at the Lord Elgin Hotel, where we can see live, online.

Much more importantly. Was the gun registered? Did anyone research this? The long gun registry was supossed to protect us against this type of behaviour.

I'm sure the attacker would have taken the registration laws very seriously and indeed but not for repeal by rednecks this would not have happened.

Maybe because it looked from the pictures like it was a nice day. What problem do you have with this?

This is the stupidest thing I've ever heard and governments in my time have done some extremely stupid things.
I think that should not be an offense. But I see nothing wrong with investigating whether the "condoners" are also participants, monetary contributors or conspirators.

I mean seriously. Considering he has labeled environmental groups as "terrorists" this is getting a bit absurd.

Consider the source - the media will always try to take comments and try to sensationalize them. After going through the trauma of the past week - of course people and politicians will throw ideas on the table to consider - everything can be considered - but what ends up in legislation is usually a completely different animal - and is often watered down even more in committee.

I thought that it was time that PM Harper "came out of the closet"! :D

Note - For those expecting a response from Big Guy: I generally do not read or respond to posts longer then 300 words nor to parsed comments.

Who said otherwise? Indeed, this already happens.

Bourque shot and killed 3 RCMP officers and seriously injured two more. In Mayerthorpe, James Roszko murdered 4 RCMP officers. Go back further still and we talk about Marc Lépine murdering 14 people in the École Polytechnique massacre in 1989.

But yeah...we better be careful of those Muslims.

Meanwhile, thousands of people have died just this year alone, directly at the hand of people specifically citing Allah as the their inspiration.

But ya, the odd group killed here and they over the last 15 years is definitely comparable! Get a clue.

Agreed. Killing hundreds of thousands in the name of Almighty Oil is soooo much more reasonable.

This discussion is not about whether people kill over the usual stuff like resources, land, power, etc. Obviously they do and always have.

The debate is about killing in the name of religion. And there is one religion that has a virtual monopoly on that. And a few isolated crazies who kill in the name of other religions (or anti-religion) every other 2-3 years, taking out a couple or a dozen people, has utterly no comparison to the dozens of organized Islamic groups who have killed, with no exaggeration, literally 10000x as many people as all other religious-motivated groups combined over the same period.

Saying 'it's not just Muslims' is like saying 'it's not just cluster bombs that are dangerous', on the basis of the fact that a slingshot fired by an 8-year old can also hurt. The scale and the scope are laughably incomparable.

Do/did you have a point? Funny that you'd resort to name calling when two members are discussing, in a civil and polite fashion, the firearm used in the Ottawa attack, and how the shooter could have obtained said firearm in a country with stringent firearms laws.

He's constantly resorting to name calling. That's all he does. His favourite is calling people rednecks and circle jerk.s Hopefully he'll stop posting soon and find another forum.

Of course they are. That's obvious.

They all just lived through a pretty traumatic experience, and saw him as the focus of why they were still alive.

I wonder if the incident is really a terrorist attack. If I was an archivist and there were 2 shelves, one labled "Terrorist" and another labled "Loser", I would definitely put this guy's file in "Loser" rather than "Terrorist".

The two categories have significant overlap.

You're discussing nonsense nuances about little gun toys. Naught to do with the real problem. But, carry on. I know you and your buds are gun fans.

The question naturally arose as to how he got the gun. What type of gun it was seems pertinent. You're simply jerking your knee again because you don't like guns.

As long as you agree with the need for such investigations and surveillance, we agree.

Agreed.....consistently one dimensional in that respect. The firearm used in this crime is relevant at several levels, and deserves analysis given the history of gun regulation in Canada, previous high profile crimes involving long guns, and the security protocols followed for the location.

My reply to you early on in this thread was

But with your alias and being newly registered, tells me you have an agenda of somekind.

What could your agenda possibly be? I wonder.

Shots such as these come from firearms...not pineapples. The firearm used in this attack is an important piece of evidence, and some members were quick to recognize what it was...others choose to ignore this reality in favor of ideology.

CSIS thanks you for your support. I wonder how that vote turned out on giving them more powers.
