The RCMP are the Canadian national police service and an agency of the Ministry of Public Safety Canada.

The Olympic Gamnes were held in VANCOUVER.

And Whistler and Richmond, which have policing provided by the RCMP...........

He is of Algerian descent. I don't think it's a stretch to figure he was Muslim and that the motivation here was similar to the other Muslim crackpot in Quebec.

The guy on Monday was a convert. He was white.

Converts are often the worst zealots. Wonder who is converting them and what they are being sold.

This is a picture, allegedly of the shooter

Not too many mountains within the City of Vancouver.........In BC the vast majority of communities, from small villages to some of the bigger cities, are policed by the RCMP.....With Vancouver proper, the cities surrounding it, North Vancouver, Richmond and Burnaby are policed by the RCMP, in addition the Endowment Lands (what UBC is on within Vancouver) and the strip of the Trans Canada that goes through Vancouver, both have RCMP detachments........

I have some questions about all this. I just saw on CBC, that someone sent them a video of the shooter getting into his car. Now, how would someone know who he was or what he had done when it was right after he had shot the reserve. They wouldn't have know what the had done and why did he only kill one person when he could have killed more? Why run to the Parliament Hill, were security is going to getting anyone coming in with a gun, was he suicidal? Apparently.

In fact closest non RCMP municipal police force to Whistler would be West Vancouver, not Vancouver.

And West Vancouver Police, like several other municipal forces in BC (Like Port Moody, Delta, Central Saanich and Oak Bay) are rather smaller forces when compared to large cities like Surrey, Coquitlam, Burnaby, Richmond and North Van that all have RCMP policing...........The Esquimalt police force (until it merged with Victoria PD) also provided fire services in the community, but was dwarfed by both the base MP detachment and base fire departments, which supported the local community.......likewise Base personal provide Bomb Squads & divers to Greater Victoria police services...

None the less, it looks like various MP's are signalling that they would like to return to the House tomorrow........I suppose we'll know more once the Prime Minister speaks...

I don't even know why he got into the car. Parliament Hill is literally across the street. Why get into a car, then drive down the street to get around the median, then drive back so you can park it in place? Maybe he thought he could drive it onto parliament hill is the only suggestion I've got.

The speaker of the Senate has announced the Senate will be meeting tomorrow. The HoC would look pretty bad if they didn't do the same.

I agree I was in Ottawa this past summer, the parl buildings are right there. He`s a Muslim, no one said he was very bright.

The PM is going on TV at 7:45 tonight, stand by.

I don't approve. He should make a simple statement tomorrow in a scrum or in the house. He should not make this into a national crisis.

Agreed. He is attempting to score political points with this.

Apparently, BC politicians knew about heightened security concerns for several days from Ottawa. Even specifically at the War Memorial.

If this is true, they put an unarmed target in military uniform at the War Memorial standing post despite security concerns. Wow...

What political points do you think he stands to gain, as leader of the Government of Canada, by addressing Canadians?

I think that will be dependent on if its been totally cleared, but I agree, they should return ASAP.

What political points did they expect to gain the other day when they had one of their MPs ask the PM about the hit and run? I'm mystified as to why they did that. If Harper wanted to address that issue he could have put out a statement, or (and I know this might shock some) step outside the house and speak about it to reporters.

I don't know. Maybe they want him to appear prime ministerial, but I think they're elevating this beyond where it should be. This is not an issue of importance which merits an address to the nation.

Ya know, I may argue with you a ton, but this is spot on.

That BS the other day is soo Harper. Such a small minded power control bullshit move.

I don't want to go out on a limb here, but is there any chance that this shooting was instigated because the shooter was muslim.

In your view, what then does merit an address to the nation?

I think he will see an opportunity to fearmonger us out of some of our rights. A bunch of their failed attempts at ramming though awful legislation like the Internet Surveillance Act, might have new hope if the population is sufficiently fear-dumb.

Politicians love this kind of thing.

I know it when I see it. One guy who shot a soldier and then got shot on parliament hill doesn't qualify.

I am disappointed in the information we are receiving from Canadian sources. Obama was on TV commenting at about 4 p.m. The mayor of the municipality was on TV around the same time. The name of the shooter was revealed by the American media. If this is indeed a terrorist act on Canadian soil then where is our PM Harper?

I am getting tired of finding out what is happening and planned in Canada from American sources.
