OJ was an international story. I have no idea what NOTB means. And why would that make a difference?

North of the Border.

North of the Border.

Right, we live in the backwoods. And we have no ATM's.

That's not what I'm saying. I treat Canada as being an independent country. As Canadians say, very different from the U.S.

So why wouldn't we have followed the OJ trial just as much as any other country. The OJ trial was covered by the international media. If we didn't follow it, that would mean we lived in the backwoods wouldn't it?

I would have thought Bernardo would have been of more interest. Not sure when he was popular, however.

He was just as popular, even internationally.

Didn't Chretien want someone like him for Justice Minister?

Ah right. So in my post "country" not being defined by the descriptor Canada, was not a proper noun, therefore not needing capitalization. Do I have that right? In any case, informal is OK by me.

According to Jbg, yes.

Don't stand out in an open field with that tinfoil hat on. You might become a lightning rod.

How is stating the obvious, from his egregious Cairo speech, "tin-foil hat"?

And now, if we can get back to the actual subject.

Margaret Wente had a column in the Globe which I think mirrored what a lot of people are feeling vis a vis Harper and Trudeau, and pointed out the truism of what Mulroney said, ie that Trudeau's major platform is he's not Harper. A lot of people are just sick of Harper and his mean-spirited ways, even those who voted for him.

So what’s the problem with Mr. Harper? Is it the Duffy affair? The militant foreign policy? The highly dubious tough-on-crime agenda?

No, not really. It’s just … him. He’s too controlling, too snarly, too mean. He picked a fight with Supreme Court Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin. He sounded callous about murdered native women. It’s not the policies or even the scandals – it’s the tone. They just don’t like the guy.

Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau, faced with an open letter from seven former Liberal MPs denouncing him for his stance on abortion, tweeted that the days "when old men get to decide what a woman does with her body are long gone."

Thumbs up on that! :)

.

Which is exactly the same stance that Harper, Mulcair, and May have on abortion.

I mostly agree. Though his attacks on the environment and democracy are bad enough, Harper's mean spirited, dictatorial persona make his actions appear worse and the anger and resentment linger. A Reagan or Clinton type wouldn't come off nearly as bad, even with the same record.
