USA Flies Through China Airspace

Recommended Posts

Not too sure why America would do this. Obama has been the president of peace. I don't think he would want to rattle China's feathers. Maybe Obama is trying to put America back on the map after Bush hurt that nation's legacy. Japan sits idle. What if Japan produces nuclear weapons. You don't want to mess with the Chinese. China will be the lone world's superpower soon.,

Maybe Obama is looking for a summer home when his term is over in 2016. :P Seriously though, you may be right but it won't last if they get there at all. The Chinese are way to corrupt to get there. Not to mention their GDP is full of hot air as well.. http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2013-08-13/chinas-1-trillion-gdp-lie. Since history generally repeats itself, if there's going to be another real superpower someday it'll come out of Europe as they realize the tragic results of socialism. Ironically, us North Americans want to repeat the lessons Europe is already learning and trying to dig out of.

I find progressive socialism to be the ideal situation. Everyone would have a chance in life. Narrow the ap between the haves and have nots. Give the have nots an equal chance. Capitalism has failed and leads to corruption.

During WW2, the U.S. rescued the BIG BAD Chinese from tiny Japan. Some superpower.......

And China's retort:

http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/11/26/us-china-defence-idUSBRE9AP08220131126?feedType=RSS&feedName=topNews&utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter&dlvrit=992637

(Reuters) - China sent its sole aircraft carrier on a training mission into the South ChinaSea on Tuesday amid maritime disputes with the Philippines and other neighbors and tension over its plan to set up an airspace defense zone in waters disputed with Japan.

The Liaoning, bought used from Ukraine and refurbished in China, has conducted more than 100 exercises and experiments since it was commissioned last year but this is the first time it has been sent to the South China Sea.

I wonder if this deployment will be as orderly as a Chinese air defence drill?
It’s like the good ole days :D
Any bets on how long till the hull shots of Liaoning are put on the internet? ;)

Hey, Obama didn't call it a "pivot" for nuthin'. Game on....just like you say. Fightin' terrorists is one thing, but nothing beats fightin' COMMIES !

Exactly…….I wonder if the next visit by the Buffs will see 12 white painted AGM-84s under the wings……..Quite the sight, and the exact opposite of stealth…..I had the pleasure of seeing a flight of B-52Gs in the maritime interdiction role at sea…….As often described, a blind and deaf man wearing a fur coat could see a B-52 from miles away………..eight black contrails of FREEDOM!!!

I don't think he would want to rattle China's feathers.

China is a pathetic bully that teaches its people to hate its neighbors in order to distract its population from the failures of communist party rule. The parallels between pre-war Japan and China today are too many and it is quite likely that China will start a war with its neighbors in the next 20 years no matter what its neighbors do.

Why would China go this route if holds most of US debt and could damage or destroy it financially?

An illusion. As they say: you owe the bank 1 million dollars and can't pay it back then you are in trouble. if you owe the bank 1 billion dollars the bank is in trouble. China depends more on the US than the US depends on China. Edited by TimG

Because China does not hold "most of US debt", and never has. As a percentage of the economy, U.S. companies own more of Canada's production than China does in the U.S. Does this make Canadians nervous ? Enjoying all those layoffs and plant closings in Ontario ? Best to worry about that than any pretend Chinese missiles hitting Los Angeles or Seattle. Heck, LAX almost got bombed by some guy from Canada !

Oldest trick in the book....light 'em up and see what they have for air defenses, sensors, etc. Arguably, President Bush's first international crisis was the Hainan Island incident involving an EP-3 "spy plane". The Chinese J-8 pilot did not live to tell about it.

Those BUFFs probably came from Guam, seen here with some tankers:

Yup, and there’s all sorts of gizmos for doing exactly that with the B-52s……and off course, the subs that are surely stalking the Chinese carrier battle group………Also of note from the picture, the E-3, when teamed with Harpoon armed B-52s, is a good mix, fore the Sentry’s look down radar makes for a dangerous (for the Chinese) combination.

Don't you mean ruffle China's feathers?

Regardless, your thread title is biased: there's no certainty that the airspace is China's. And Japan doesn't sit idle; it's coast guard partrols the waters around those islands.

Turning into a embarrassment for china:

http://blogs.wsj.com/chinarealtime/2013/11/27/chinese-bloggers-turn-fire-on-beijing-amid-u-s-b-52-challenge/

“The immediate reaction (from U.S.) with both words and action shows the adventurism in China’s decision over the air defense zone, and the passive and embarrassing consequence resulting from that,” Pan Jiazhu, a well-known columnist on military issues who goes by Zhao Chu on his verified Weibo account, wrote.

“Military hardliners created this situation and made a no-fly zone, thinking they can play with little Japan, which has brought out U.S. bombers and slapped hardliners in the face,” art and culture critic Wu Zuolai wrote. “Where’s the hardliners’ spokesman? How do we end this?”

Do these planes have any military purpose today other than being extremely intimidating?

Yes, they do, being very cost effective with a significant bomb load or rotary cruise missile launchers. B-52's can loiter for a long time and drop as needed on a conventional box or use directed munitions. Without any air defense threat, these old bombers are like big trucks in the sky ready to create large craters on a moments notice. We just love 'em to death !

As BC mentioned…..you bet!!! In a myriad of roles…….Nuclear deterrent, conventional strategic bombing, maritime interdiction, electronic intelligence & surveillance, stand-off electronic jammers and recently with the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, with JDAMs, a very valuable close air-support platform.
As I mentioned earlier, the exercise I took part in the 80s with the B-52s saw a mock attack on a “Soviet” surface fleet, with the B-52’s attacking the fleet from different points of the compass, with each bomber carrying 12 anti-ship missiles, for a total of 144 missiles swarming the fleet from different directions, a threat that was intended to overwhelm the ships radars and air defence systems…..
Now the Soviets practiced such tactics, but because of their inferior (Backfire & Badger) bombers, they were limited to two missiles per aircraft, as such, to attack the Americans/NATO would require a minimum of three bomber regiments of 24 aircraft each, numerous bombers equipped as ECM/jammers, aerial tankers and a smattering of Bear reconnaissance bombers……..And even then, such an attack on an American, AEGIS defended carrier battle group, would have been lucky to score more then 4-5 hits on the American/NATO vessels……..And supposing the Soviet missiles were not nuclear tipped, would need ~7-8 hits to sink an aircraft carrier or one of the Iowa Battleships…….
Of course the Americans can launch a similar attack with 12 B-52s, an E-3 Sentry and 3-4 tankers…….As such, there are very few navies on the planet today that could hope to counter such an attack by the Americans, to say nothing of the threat posed by the American fleet and their nuclear attack subs……
This is why the Chinese stunt of deploying their fleet to the region is laughable, fore if they wished it, the Americans could easily turn the Chinese into crab food…..

I am sure if you knew a little about search engines you could see the pics are already online. The US took satelite pictures of the vessel in the Pacific last year when China was trialing the carrier.
