cybercoma Posted October 31, 2013 Report Posted October 31, 2013 Listening to Arcade Fire's new album Reflektor. Here's the eponymous track. Quote
GostHacked Posted October 31, 2013 Report Posted October 31, 2013 Cybercoma . was surprised by that Arcade Fire track. The build up around 3:30 is nice. Overall a good track, but 2x longer than it needs to be. Quote
GostHacked Posted November 5, 2013 Report Posted November 5, 2013 Well Cybercoma, that track has grown on me. Lyrically it is really good, metaphors, and such about society. Really well through out. And I am loving the anti-climactic drop in the chorus. Still love the groove from the 3-4 minute mark. Quote
cybercoma Posted November 5, 2013 Report Posted November 5, 2013 Yeah. Arcade Fire is much more interesting when you follow the lyrics. It's brilliant stuff. Quote
Spiderfish Posted November 5, 2013 Report Posted November 5, 2013 I happened onto a band a couple of months ago when I was looking around for some new up and comers called St. Lucia. It's basically a one man band, the guys name is Jean-Philip Grobler. Most of his tunes have an eighty's pop sound, but modernized. Kind of a cross between Depeche mode, Inxs, with a bit of U2 and maybe even some newer Bee Gees thrown in for good measure. Good stuff. Quote

Mighty AC Posted November 12, 2013 Author Report Posted November 12, 2013 There are several good live performances of this song, but I really like the words and this version displays the lyrics. I once sang a stirring rendition1 of this song in a Rochester pub, in front of clients, after a few too many pints. 1 The opinions expressed by the author of this post almost certainly do not reflect those who witnessed the performance. Quote "Our lives begin to end the day we stay silent about the things that matter." - Martin Luther King Jr"Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities" - Voltaire
Mighty AC Posted November 13, 2013 Author Report Posted November 13, 2013 Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day and Norah Jones have covered "Songs Our Daddy Taught Us", an album of traditional folks sons done by the Everly Brothers in the 50's. Their version is called "Foreverly" and this is the first single. I love covers, especially when artists cross genres. Quote "Our lives begin to end the day we stay silent about the things that matter." - Martin Luther King Jr"Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities" - Voltaire
Mighty AC Posted November 19, 2013 Author Report Posted November 19, 2013 I'm not a huge fan of Thom and the boys but that is a great album indeed. There are so many good songs on that disc (Just, High and Dry, The Bends, etc) but I think Fake Plastic Trees is my fav. I've had that song running through my head since this weekend when my wife brought home a pre-lit, fake plastic, Christmas tree. IMO, a very succinct symbol for much of what's wrong with this world. I like this cover: Quote "Our lives begin to end the day we stay silent about the things that matter." - Martin Luther King Jr"Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities" - Voltaire
GostHacked Posted December 1, 2013 Report Posted December 1, 2013 Friend of mine sent me links to these guys. Apparently local Ottawa boys. Native song/drums mixed with a whole whack load of electronic stuff. I've not heard stuff this crazy in a long time. Very awesome stuff. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Tribe_Called_Red Quote

cybercoma Posted December 2, 2013 Report Posted December 2, 2013 (edited) I wonder if any of you here have listened to Mac Demarco's album 2. Canadian musician, who grew up in Edmonton before moving to Vancouver then Montreal. He has such excellent sounding guitar that I can't get enough of this album. Below is the video for the song "Ode to Viceroy", which is indeed about the cigarettes. He's a bit of a nut, but the music has a great vibe to it. Edited December 2, 2013 by cybercoma Quote
GostHacked Posted December 2, 2013 Report Posted December 2, 2013 Derek L, on Def Leppard. On Through The Night is still their best album. Has such a nice raw sound to it, and the raw was lost when Hi n Dry came out. Don't get me wrong, both albums rock, but their first was their best. Quote

Mighty AC Posted December 19, 2013 Author Report Posted December 19, 2013 This is my favourite song from my favourite holiday album.
