Michael Hardner Posted November 16, 2012 Report Posted November 16, 2012 And that is completely wrong, made even worse by the fact that the catholic schools get public money. So you say. I was asked to show religious exclusion or whatever you want to call it. Quote Looks like someone has a new patronizing catch phrase ! Michael Hardner
Merlin Posted November 16, 2012 Report Posted November 16, 2012 One doesn't need to be a Catholic to know what those values are. Being fully versed in the Catholic faith is very complicated. it is simply knowing the basics about the Bible. There is a ton of tradition and rituals to know. Quote
jacee Posted November 16, 2012 Report Posted November 16, 2012 Correct Kimmy She was offered a haircut by another man in the shop who was not Muslim. He was in the back, she said no and walked out. Methinks she is gold digging here. Not sure where you're getting that. The article said they offered her another barber 2 months later, after the complaint was made. Quote

Bonam Posted November 16, 2012 Report Posted November 16, 2012 Why wouldn't it? Because the case is about a specific incident. That's what the case applies to. This is not a general supreme court interpretation of the charter of rights, this is an HRC hearing about one specific incident. Quote
Bonam Posted November 16, 2012 Report Posted November 16, 2012 (edited) So you say. I was asked to show religious exclusion or whatever you want to call it. The fact that our society is chock full of religious institutions discriminating against people, including some which are state sanctioned/funded, doesn't excuse specific instances of it. Merlin Posted November 16, 2012 Report Posted November 16, 2012 Sleip, it doesn't change the fact that one must be Catholic in order to be for sure well versed in all Catholic rituals and traditions. Quote

Bonam Posted November 16, 2012 Report Posted November 16, 2012 The Catholic Schools are protected by the Constitution. Constitutions can, and sometimes should, be amended. Quote
dre Posted November 16, 2012 Report Posted November 16, 2012 Constitutions can, and sometimes should, be amended. In this case it should be. Special legal consideration of religious beliefs discriminates against non religious beliefs, and non religious conscientious objectors and give the beliefs of some people more legal weight than the beliefs of others. This is a relic and it either these same protections should be applied to all personal beliefs or none of them. Quote I question things because I am human. Merlin Posted November 16, 2012 Report Posted November 16, 2012 Constitutions can, and sometimes should, be amended. Sure the ycan once you get all the provinces to agree to open it up. What else will be changed once its open. Good luck getting any province to agree to take out Catholic protection though. I'm not Catholic but I dont see it happening. Quote

Canuckistani Posted November 16, 2012 Report Posted November 16, 2012 Careful here.... Maybe....just maybe all the white kids were shiftless lazy brats? I am not saying they are, what I am saying is that perhaps it is an affluent neighbourhood and the white kids are above working there......or it is an ethnic enclave whereby staff is replaced with whats in the hopper, and the only thing there is non white. Maybe the chicken preceeded the egg. Not that it is, but it could be the reason Have a pretzel. Oh, you don't need one, you're already twisting yourself into one just to not have to say that non-whites can be just as racist and discriminatory.; Was it also you who asked how many white people have family owned businesses? The answer is lots of them. Jeesus. Quote

guyser Posted November 16, 2012 Report Posted November 16, 2012 (edited) Zing, went right over your head ! Have a pretzel. The answer is lots of them. Jeesus. jesus is right. I didnt ask that question.I said nor meant anything of the sort. The point was we can not come to any conclusion based on what was presented and there may well be a legitimate reason why the workers are all the same. And there could be a bad reason they are. As for the pretzel, please dont forget the mustard! Thanks...oh and make it a hot pretzel Edited November 16, 2012 by guyser Quote
The_Squid Posted November 16, 2012 Report Posted November 16, 2012 Actual experience shows... What a silly statement. No chance of backing that one up with any real facts since it was prefaced with "actual experience". LOL Quote

My"actual experiences" trumps yours and I have seen more racist white people. So where does this get us? Do we add up your racist Chinese versus my racist whites and see which culture/race is worse? How do "actual experiences" relate in any way to what is happening in the wider world? Quote

You've likely seen more white people, period, since Canada is 83% white. Go to China to see a lot racist Chinese. Quote

They probably don't trump mine because you live on Vancouver Island. My experience comes from living 22 years in the Lower Mainland, and from extensive travel up and down Vancouver Island I know the racial and cultural mix is not as diverse as that in the Lower Mainland. Maybe if you lived in Victoria? Also, I said "horrified by racism". Do you dispute that? (Does it offend you that I believe people other than white people are racist?) Working with other races, it always amazed me how comfortable they are basing their dealings with others on their race. Quote
