olp1fan Posted November 16, 2011 Report Posted November 16, 2011 This is supposed to be a Canadian forum but spelling colour with a U is a spelling error. What is up with that? Quote
cybercoma Posted November 16, 2011 Report Posted November 16, 2011 At the bottom of the main forum page you'll notice that the default language is "English (USA)". I'm not entirely certain, but I think this is the default for the IP.board software. There's probably add-ons that can be installed to adapt it to Canadian english, but it's a pain in the neck. There's not much point to do it. Quote

Michael Hardner Posted December 2, 2011 Report Posted December 2, 2011 I just tried on 4 forums, including Rabble.ca and they all spellchecked on colour. I don't know how you would code your site to specify spellcheck language to your browser. What sites *didn't* highlight the word and what browser are you using ? Shwa Posted December 5, 2011 Report Posted December 5, 2011 colour honour all work fine when I selected English (Canada) as the default language in the Chrome spellchecker. Options > Under the Hood > Web Content > Languages and spellchecker settings Quote

Forum Admin Greg Posted December 11, 2011 Forum Admin Report Posted December 11, 2011 Micheal is right, the forum software does NOT have a spellchecker activated. Most modern browsers already have spell checkers built right into the browser, so it would be pointless to even provide such a functionality directly in the forum. So any incorrect spellings you might encounter are the result of your browser, not the MLW forums. Thanks, Quote Have any issues, problems using the forum? jbg Posted December 17, 2011 Report Posted December 17, 2011 Color and neighbor are the correct spellings. We do not say "lay-bower". We say "lay-boor". waldo Posted December 17, 2011 Report Posted December 17, 2011 Color and neighbor are the correct spellings. We do not say "lay-bower". We say "lay-boor". no - per this threads several earlier references to English/British, colour and neighbour are correct spellings: see col.our ... listen here: interesting in that you seemed to offer recognition to English/British in another of your recent posts Quote
eyeball Posted December 17, 2011 Report Posted December 17, 2011 (edited) Color and neighbor are the correct spellings. We do not say "lay-bower". We say "lay-boor". Actually it's lay-bore. Only a boor would say bower. Saying things your way would result with, well lets use the word your for example. That would be yo-oor where you're from or where yo-oor-oor from, or something. jbg Posted December 18, 2011 Report Posted December 18, 2011 no - per this threads several earlier references to English/British, colour and neighbour are correct spellings: see col.our ... listen here: interesting in that you seemed to offer recognition to English/British in another of your recent posts No. I correctly refer to your language as "Canadian". But maybe global warming is giving you fevers. Actually it's lay-bore. Only a boor would say bower. Saying things your way would result with, well lets use the word your for example. That would be yo-oor where you're from or where yo-oor-oor from, or something. Good point. But "your" is an exception to the "ow" pronunciation of "ou". waldo Posted December 19, 2011 Report Posted December 19, 2011 No. I correctly refer to your language as "Canadian". But maybe global warming is giving you fevers. no... you insultingly referred to my comprehension and coherence difficulty with English, Canadian and French... specifically identifying your recognition of "English". All the "our" word variants associate with English origins. When you label the English origin "our" variants as incorrect spellings, you are not giving their usage the same "English" recognition that you earlier provided. Quote
monty16 Posted December 24, 2011 Report Posted December 24, 2011 Shame on any Canadian that can't accept that words are spelled differently in the US. That's not Canadian, that's being arrogant and trying to exclude others for their insignificant and unimportant differences. After all, we are a bilingual nation and we should be proud of that fact. jbg Posted December 24, 2011 Report Posted December 24, 2011 That's true: we have two official languages: British English and American English. Well in parts of Canada you say "I'se the bye", not "I'm the boy". In a recent issue of Canadian Geographic I received an enclosed pamphlet about the history of the Royal Mint. It was rather well done. One side appeared to be in a form of English, with many words having a superfluous "u". The other side was in some language I didn't understand.
