DejectedAmerican Posted August 12, 2011 Report Posted August 12, 2011 Greetings to my Canadian friends. I have lost all faith and confidence in my government to competently run my country and I want to renounce my citizenship and become and Canadian citizen. I recently lost my job to third-world slave labor and my prospects for future employment are dire in this economic climate. My government has been infiltrated by radical right-wing fundamentalists and I fear for my future. I apologize on behalf of the American people for the economic mess my country has caused to the world. I never advocated any of that bullshit. I am deeply embarrassed by they way our legislature has conducted itself. I love my fellow Americans (the non-wackjobs anyway), as opinionated as they can be, but some of them want to force their way of life down my throat and I will not stand for it. All I ever expect from a government is that they ensure fairness and security. Is that too much to ask? I am a talented graphic artist and budding amateur photographer with an IQ of around 140. I am willing to work any job that will pay me a fair wage that will allow me to cover basic living expenses. I would appreciate any information on how to start the path to citizenship and any leads on job opportunities. I do not care if it is being Bear bait for hunters as long as it pays enough for me to live on. Please help me. This is not a joke. I am fearful for the future of my country and I feel it will soon turn into a corporate oligarchy. I need to get out ASAP. I know the idea of American immigrants or American refugees is absurd but get used to it. I am not the only one. I have at least 60 friends on Facebook that are all looking to emigrate to Canada or possibly Australia. Yes folks, things are getting that bad here. The media here is a sham meant to gain ratings and add fuel to the partisan fire. It will not get better, only worse. The smart ones, like myself, know to get out now but the problem is, what country will take American immigrants? I just want out of this prison. Please help. Any info is appreciated. Thank you for reading. Quote

Thank you for reading. You already posted this in another thread and may want to look there for my reply. Suffice to say to THIS post is you seem to be making the assumption that things are only bad in the US! We have our own problems, too. We also have high unemployment. You might not find a job here! I suggest you do some research or you might well regret it. I suggest you do some research or you might well regret it. I would rather be poor Canadian than a poor American. At least I can get real healthcare if I am living in the streets of Toronto. Here the people seem to think I should just lay down and die. You also have a lot of untamed land so if I really had to, I could do the Grizzly Adams thing and live in the wilderness, eat caribou, and grow pot for beer money. If I went to live in the wilderness here and was discovered, I would end up on national news as a freak nature boy and either placed in a shelter where I will be beaten within an inch of my life for my macbook or into prison where my ass becomes a man-receptacle. We seem to hate poor people here and like to watch them suffer and since I am about to be poor, I do not have very high expectations. Quote

You would not be living in the US, but a lot of the crap that the US government does certainly has a significant effect on Canada and the rest of the world, the economy being paramount. And as Bill said, we have our own problems and BS in government that I highly recommend you look into before many any huge decisions. Globalization and outsourcing of jobs to developing countries is by far not just a US phenomenon. On the other hand, Canada is always looking for quality immigrants! Evening Star Posted August 12, 2011 Report Posted August 12, 2011 Why? Because the OP has real problems and concerns he or she is trying to address and I can see where he or she is coming from? Quote

Thank you for reading. we have a number of graphic artists graduating from design colleges every year also looking for jobs... without a job waiting for you that can't be filled by a canadian it'll be difficult to get in... Agreed. The majority of my college-mates who studied graphic design with me do not work in that field. Only about one in four were able to find work that paid the bills, the rest had no choice but to move to other careers. The funny part that the OP should bear in mind, is that nearly all of my work originates from the U.S. That's where the Graphic Design dollars are. There's very little to be made here--the market is just too small for companies to justify paying "real" money to an artist. Quote

I can too but I'm just saying they can run but not hide. The planet is too small and what they're running from exists pretty much everywhere. Sir Bandelot Posted August 12, 2011 Report Posted August 12, 2011 Nonsense, there's lots of jobs here. Not necessarily the highest paying ones but if you're willing to work hard and start off with lower pay, you'll get somewhere. It's not necessary to lead an extravagant, materialist lifestyle. Happiness does not depend on it anyway. Even here in my small town, where housing is affordable and crime is low, you can find work. It just depends on how determined you are. Quote

I am willing to work any job that will pay me a fair wage that will allow me to cover basic living expenses. You should know that there is a class of job called 'NAFTA Professional' which includes the profession of graphic artist, I believe. You could, I think, try Canada out first without emigrating by finding a job here (use monster, workopolis or the government of Canada job bank perhaps) then simply providing your credentials, job offer and status at the border. Look it up, this could work for you. Quote Click to learn why Climate Change is caused by HUMANS Michael Hardner
