Pretty sure HBO spoiled the choice of champions in the trailer for this season. I'll say no more.

I didn't notice that before, but you do see a glimpse of Tyrion's champion. You only see that back of the Crown's champion, but the identity of Tyrion's fighter coupled with the physical characteristics will probably give it away.

Great episode.

I honestly thought Sansa was going to join the parade of dead Stark's in that final scene. It'll be interesting to see how Littlefinger explains Lysa's fall from the Moon Door.

Martell's scene with Tyrion was great. I initially thought Prince Oberyn was a tiresome character but he's a pretty cool dude actually.

Now that the Hound is established as a good guy, he'll probably die.

Pod and Brienne is an excellent odd-couple. WTF is the deal with Hot Pie discussing gravy with them? Weird plot device.

I just can't give a toss about Danerys W. Bush's adventures in Iraq and Afghanistan, though.

Who cares, she's hot.

The problem with her story arc is what makes her cool, Dragons and huge army, costs a lot of money to show on TV. Eventually we'll get to see both in action . . . I hope.

Best scene in Season 3 was her taking down Astapore IMHO.

The scene with the Hound and Arya at the burned out farm was terrific. " So, what's your name then?"

Danerys is undergoing a transformation from girl to warrior leader and perhaps Queen of the Seven Kingdoms.. It takes time.

The scene where she backs off her decision in front of Jormont is a wonderful bit of writing.

Tywin is a fairly shrewd guy who is probably relieved Joffrie died when he did. In fact, HE had the best motive for eliminating Joffrie, who certainly would have eventually seen to the death of anyone trying to tell him what to do, including Tywin. He tried to have Tyrion assassinated and threatened to have his mother imprisoned, remember.

I agree that wanting to find a fall guy to make it go away is certainly something he'd expect to want. But he's also got to want to know who did it, because it was a strike at the Lannisters' control of the kingdom by ... someone (or does he already know, somehow?). Whoever killed Joffrie might presumably decide to do the same with his brother. Yet Tywin is showing little to no interest in finding out who actually did it. He has to know, because he's a smart guy, that it wasn't Tyrion. But there are lots of fall guys he could implicate who aren't his son, and Tyrion has proved useful in the past. Much better to implicate some dangerous or potentially dangerous political enemy.

In the end I don't think Tywin cares who killed Joffrey.

His death and show trial is an opportunity in many ways:

- since he is chief magistrate of the court, it solidifies his position as being visibly the guy in charge, the Regent, until Tymion comes of age. It's not a coincidence that Tywin sits in the Iron Throne while court is in session.

-get rid of Tyrion and any possibility he could inherit anythign anywhere as a Lannister heir. He knew Tyrion could admit guilt and be sent to the Wall for life. Of course, Tyrion has tossed some serious sand in that Vaseline by failing to follow Tywins script

- it shunts Cersei to the side for years, perhaps forever

-it gets Jaime back into Tywins control, since he is the only heir possible.

-since Sansa is Tyrions legal wife, it means she is guilty by association and cannot ever take any kind of high station in the Seven Kingdoms, her status as senior Stark is diminished.

All of that is in limbo now....

Just 3 episodes left. Season 1 we had Ned's execution... season 2 we had the Blackwater... season 3 we had the Red Wedding. It looks like the duel between the Mountain and Prince Oberyn will be tomorrow. I wonder which of this season's main plotlines will provide the big finish to this season? Fallout from Tyrion's trial? Events involving Littlefinger? Stannis's revenge? Big events involving Sansa and/or Arya? The Wildlings attack Castle Black? War between the Boltons and the Greyjoys?

I really liked episode #7, particularly the scenes with Tyrion, and Arya and Sandor.

The scenes with Tyrion and Jaime, Tyrion and Bronn, and Tyrion and Oberyn were all heart-wrenching in different ways. I knew as soon as it was revealed that the crown's champion would be Gregor Clegane that Oberyn would offer to be Tyrion's champion. The part where Oberyn recounted meeting Tyrion when he was an infant put a lump in my throat, and my eyes misted up when he said he told Tyrion he would fight for him.

I also liked the scene where Sansa walks into the courtyard and sees snow for the first time in however long it might have been (had to remind myself that in Westeros, winter isn't an annual thing.) She looked so regal.

It seems like Sansa is now in a situation where she could be allied to a very powerful man, if she wishes to be. Being with Littlefinger would provide her with security and an opportunity for vengeance. She could do worse...

Yeah, except his desire to nail Sansa is rooted in his unrequited love for her mother.

Extremely creepy IMO. Littlefinger was already creepy, this takes it to a new level.

The snow in the courtyard scene where they kiss looked fake. It might fool many, but no Canuckistani is falling for that fluff.

You don't really want to know what happens , do you?

That's a problem with having read the books......

I hear you... That's why I was hoping for a big departure from the books in the Bran/Northern plot line.

For those that are interested comicbookgirl19 on YouTube does some very interesting GOT episode analysis. Plus I think she's very hot. Anyway, here is the S04E07 recap.

I kind of had a hunch that Oberyn might end up dead, because that's what happens to everybody who comes to King's Landing seeking justice. Still, I can't imagine what this "verdict" will mean going forward. It's hard to imagine the show without Tyrion... but of course it was hard to imagine the show without Ned too at one point. Perhaps Jaime will finally take action. The final shot of Oberyn was one of the most gruesome things I've ever seen on TV.

Sansa's tour de force performance for the Lords of the Vale was pretty cool. I liked it, anyway. I think this is the first time in the series that she's made her own choice about anything of substance.

I wouldn't have guessed that Tyrion would be a Beatles fan.

Ser Jorah got out of the "friendzone", at least.

I think Tyrion's monologue about Cousin Orson and the beetle smashing kind of sums up the whole philosophy of the show. He was obsessed with finding out the purpose of the beetle smashing... but he never did. There was no purpose. Beetles got smashed. Chud. Chud. Chud. No reason. You think somehow Ned has to get out of prison and get revenge on the Lannisters... but he never does. You think that sometime down the road Arya is going to put her sword through Joffrey's neck... then Joffrey dies the next week. You think Oberyn has to win the duel because the show can't go on without Tyrion... well... If you start thinking that there's some kind of grand design that is going to play out-- this character is destined to do this, or that character has to survive for some reason-- you find out you're wrong. There's no greater purpose, no destiny. Chud chud chud.

I'm sure Tyrion doesn't die. If anything George R Martin has his main character death's shocking. Nothing would be shocking if Tyrion gets executed in Episode 10 after this Castle Black thing next episode.

Anyone else not care that we haven't seen Bran in awhile?

Is it possible that the Bolton's are perhaps the most sadistic House in the 7 kingdoms?

Arya's laugh was hilarious. I'm very curious to see what Sandor does now.

Yeah I didn't need to see that. This show is starting to wear on me. It's one thing to have a show that realistically depicts that the good guys don't always win, but this really swings too far in the other direction IMO. Tyrion getting iced would probably end this show for me for a while.

There are so many characters involved it would be hard not to find another "good-guy" even if Tyrion got executed.

Sure, and then when that one gets killed gruesomely, we can find another, then another...
