Black Dog
No, perhaps you don't really know what the phrase "nanny state" means. It's one thing to campaign for healthy food choices. It's quite another thing to pressure and cajole food makers, and now private restaurants to conform to her food and nutrition opinions. Actually it's the exact same thing. If this was truly the rise of the dictatorship of the arugula-eaters, then there'd be no consultation or negotiation: they'd simply seek to legislate their opinions. Though given that the degree to which the food industry in the U.S. depends on government subsidies, the latter course of action would not be a bad idea. Jack Weber
No, we were talking about Jack's observation of Tea Party protests. Wrongo,Professor... I was talking about the racist cartoons and placards about Mr.Obama at Tea Party rallies and chimpanzee references to Mrs.Obama at another venue.. You decided to stand up for your Tea Party folks... This is'nt new for you... You backed up a thread started by Lictor about the NAACP last summer about Shirley Sherrod... Remember "Godspeed Andrew Breitbart"??? Do you really want to bump that thread so everyone can see the lengths you will go to protect the bigot elements within the movement of the country you would rather live in??? Please...don't selectively quote and please...Don't use some juvenile penile reference like "jack off".. Black Dog
No, we were talking about Jack's observation of Tea Party protests. I remember when some people compared George Bush to a chimpanzee...still do. Yeah, but they're "progressives." So they get a pass.
Shady
I was talking about the racist cartoons and placards about Mr.Obama at Tea Party rallies and chimpanzee references to Mrs.Obama at another venue.. Oh ok. So kinda like the same references used against Condoleeza Rice, Colin Powel, and Michael Steele. But again, those don't catch your attention much. Shady
links! Wow, you people are so clueless. Women's group says Rice cartoons racist WASHINGTON -- The Independent Women's Forum denounced as blatantly racist several editorial cartoons featuring Condoleezza Rice, national security advisor and President Bush's nominee for secretary of State. These cartoons clearly draw upon centuries of deep-rooted, wicked and indefensible portrayals of Black women. "The depiction of Dr. Condoleezza Rice by Jeff Danziger, Pat Oliphant and Garry Trudeau as an ebonics speaking, big lipped, Black mammy who just loves her `massa' is a disturbing trend in editorial cartoons. Link Radio Talk Show Host Fired for Racial Slur Against Condoleezza RiceST. LOUIS — A St. Louis radio station wasted no time firing a talk show host for using a racial epithet to describe Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on his morning show Wednesday. KTRS president and general manager Tim Dorsey came on the air to announce the firing shortly after talk show host Dave Lenihan used the word "coon," a racial slur, instead of "coup" in describing her attributes for the post of NFL commissioner. Link Uncle Tom Powell Stumps for Massah BushYes suh! Yes suh! Right away suh! Mr. Powell sir, you are a liar and an apologist for a crooked regime known as the George W. Bush administration. I charge you with these offenses based on the following: Link Party trumps race’ for Steele foesBlack Democratic leaders in Maryland say that racially tinged attacks against Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele in his bid for the U.S. Senate are fair because he is a conservative Republican. Such attacks against the first black man to win a statewide election in Maryland include pelting him with Oreo cookies during a campaign appearance, calling him an “Uncle Tom” and depicting him as a black-faced minstrel on a liberal Web log. Smallc
So what you're saying is that just like tea partiers, some nutters on the right are racist. Jonsa
So a movement to provide better nutritional education and information is seen as an assault of individual freedom? A program that encourages manufacturers and restaurants to provide more nutritional information and healthier altenatives is a diabolic attempt to shove food down the throats of all freedom loving americans!!! Its a constitutional right to be unhealthy, fat and stupid. Guess they never heard that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Oh wait a minute you can't make nearly as much money so screw that. Nanny state. Nanny state. Kill the unions - oh sorry that's a different thread. This same slovenely obese, hyperbolic drug addict who took a cheap show at Michael J. Fox for his Parkinson tremors... Some here that defend this clown defended other crypto-crackers (Remeber FAT Limbaugh's cracks on Donovan McNabb??) in the NAACP thread started by Lictor.. And you're right...It's disgusting... Topaz
I've listened to Rush off and on and it seems the older he gets the more he becomes a grumpy old man. How many marriages has he had? His own health is out of control and a great percentage of Americans have weight problems and the children are over weight causing health issues. If Michelle looked like Rush I could understand Rush's views, but she not and he is.
Black Dog
Wow, you people are so clueless. It's "clueless" to ask for evidence now? Thanks for actually backing up your allegations for once. Baby steps. Of course, the Steele oreo incident was a myth and Uncle Tom is not a racial slur, but yeah, I'm sure there were some real examples out there of racial hypocrisy viz Rice and Powell. Still doesn't explain why you don't comprehend why calling Bush a chimp is different from using the same term on Rice or Obama. Anyway: how about we get back on topic and dispense with this silly red herring discussion. I want to hear more about FLOTUS's sinister plan to foist quinoa on the unsuspecting masses at gunpoint. WIP
Because that's how you get to be and maintain #1 Arbitron ratings in American radio markets for many, many years. No, you do it by destroying laws that prevented corporations from building media monopolies, which enabled Limburgers network to buy up 600 radio stations and insist on putting him on. Limbaugh, Hannity and the other rightwing radio clowns get beat in many big city media markets even by more liberal radio shows on lower powered stations; but rightwing radio is there for propaganda and mind control purposes....if it makes money, that's bonus for the owners....just like foxnoise! Shady
So what you're saying is that just like tea partiers No, they seem to be outdoing any Tea Party protesters. Maybe they think there's a prize or something? That's nice and all, but it doesn't excuse this baseless attack on the first lady. I don't understand what needs to be excused? People have the freedom to have opinions. And even to be rude about them. You don't have to like it. But in terms of public discourse, this is hardly anything over the top. Black Dog
There's a little more power behind somebody from the federal government "suggesting" you do something. Pfft. Government subsidies to industry have actually done more to effectively limit real food choice in the marketplace than any of the measures proposed by FLOTUS, yet I don't hear you crying about that.
