Shady
Obama's census choice: simply African-AmericanWASHINGTON – He may be the world's foremost mixed-race leader, but when it came to the official government head count, President Barack Obama gave only one answer to the question about his ethnic background: African-American. The White House confirmed on Friday that Obama did not check multiple boxes on his U.S. Census form, or choose the option that allows him to elaborate on his racial heritage. He ticked the box that says "Black, African Am., or Negro." Link Why would Obama purposely not check White on his census form? His mother is White, correct? His father was Black correct? Wouldn't that make him mixed race? Wouldn't that make him as much White as he is Black? Any theories? Maybe Glenn Beck was on to something when he stated that President Obama was racist towards White people. After all, how else can you explain his deliberate shunning of the White side of his background?

Your hatred of anything to the left of idiots like Coulter and Beck is such that you would make an issue out of THIS? If Obama had checked multiple boxes, morons would accuse him of trying to hide his true identitiy, and you would applaud them. So feel free to make a fool of yourself by hinting that somehow this "proves" his so called-hatred of Whites. You'll at least provide a good laugh. CANADIEN
No, if he had checked multiple boxes, he'd be telling the truth. But I'm not sure what you're referring to as his so-called true identity. The truth is what he consider himself to be. If he had checked multiple boxes, there would be an outcry from those very same people who resent him being in the White House on the sole ground that he is not 100% Caucasian. They would claim he is trying to hide the fact that he is Black. And, while I have no reason to believe that you share that view, I strongly suspect that your hatred of Obama is such that you'd find a way to argue they have a point. Shady
The truth is what he consider himself to be. Huh? So the truth isn't what actually is true, it's what he considers himself to be? If he had checked multiple boxes Like I've already said. If he checked multiple boxes, he'd be telling the truth. His mom was white. His dad was black. Case closed. Shady
What if he'd simply declared himself to be an Earthling or is that even more alien sounding? Well, according to CANADIEN, he can declare himself to be whatever he wants, regardless of what's true or not. So I guess we'd have to honor him as the first extraterrestrial President! CANADIEN
Huh? So the truth isn't what actually is true, it's what he considers himself to be? Feel free to be obtuse on purpose, which is the response that one can usually expects to be. In the United States where Obama spent part of his childhood and and began his adult life, there was no such thing, from an identity point of view, as a mixed-raced person. One was Black, or one was White, period. Until 2000, census responses that included two checked boxes as racial identity would have been rejected. The society in which Barack Obama was living left him with two choices, considering himself White, or considering himself Black (actually, more like one choice, and we know which one it was). He chose to identify himself as African-American rather than mixed-race as a result of that, and that makes it as true as any self-definition that would have indcluded his dual heritage.Case clsoed. So, while an argument could be made that in the United States of 2010 Obama could, or even should, boldly go beyond the identity that history forced him to assume, your argument that he is hiding the truth or denying his heritage on his mother's side or that its somehow legitimize the idea that he hates Whites is ignorant, and tainted by your hatred of the man. So I guess we'd have to honor him as the first extraterrestrial President! This is true....the infamous "race" question is left to the respondent to self declare. Wishing to make folly of the entire concept, I checked every box, but did not declare tribe affiliation, as that would be disrespectful! Shady
He also forgot to put ISLAM as his religion As far as we know, Obama isn't muslim. But we do know that his father was black, and his mother was white. Which makes a mixed-race person, equally black and white. For whatever reason, he chose to shun the white part of his heritage. True, because a "black man" was not elected president. A man was elected president.

CANADIEN
Tell us, Shady - what box should Barack Obama have checked in the 1990 census form? Remember, there was only one choice then.

Guest American Woman
How about you mensa members try to answer the question. He's equally black and white. Why would he choose to only acknowledge his black side? We don't have to "try;" from all accounts, Obama struggled with his racial identity when he was growing up. It was a journey for him, which he writes about in "Dreams of My Father." As a community activist and politician, he self-identifies as African-American, so that's why he checked only one box. Hope that helps you come to terms with his decision.
