And clearly the rest of my post remains unknown to you.

What....you think I should cherish a post about a comedian who you can't remember? Please do not assume I'm as vacuous as you..

The 'camel joke' was meant to be offensive, but the comparison you're making is off the scale.

the camel joke was no joke.. her routine if she gets called out on her hate "it was a joke"is all to familiar... she's spoken many times many of her previous comments are contrary to our laws, she should never have been allowed into the country...

Calling today's conservatives 'Nazis in spirit' is as meaningless as saying we're the heirs to Stalin. I've always spoken up against that kind of hyperbole, as it stops all discussion from continuing. On another level, it's dreadfully short on imagination as far as insults go.

when it comes to dealing with bigots, racists and Nazi's the time for politcally correct pleasantary ends, I call it what it is...walk, quack and look like a duck and you're duck, in this case a Nazi...there can be no toleration for these people and the hate and intolerance they espouse and I've no sympathy for hurt feelings that may end dialogue, they aren't deserving of respect
"Speaking" and "Shutting down" are two completely different actions. I support her right to speak, to be offensive, and, incidentally, to face the consequences of whatever she says that is against the law.

But she has to speak first.

if Germans had only shut down Hitler...at least we shut down Keegstra, Zundel and if only for a moment Coulter...
Also, I don't support her, Rush, Beck, or any of the hog-callers on US television. Furthermore, I think they are what's wrong with politics in America today. I have been denouncing them for years with all of my influence and power, which is to say none.

But that's all I can do, and that's all anybody can do about merely offensive speech. Eventually, if their content is as lacking as I say it is, then it will drift away into history's gutter. Even now, the Republicans are starting to question how useful these drones are to them today. A bitter and angry minority does not appeal to the wide voter base that's out there.

Do you remember the John Birch society ? They were another fringe group that outlived their usefulness with the Repubs, and eventually had to be cut loose. They're not well remembered today, but JFK, Martin Luther King and the like are.

I choose to speak out if you want to be PC you do so at your own peril these people do not respect tolerance they use our tolerance as tool to be used to their benfit not yours...

First they came for the Communists but I was not a Communist so I did not speak out. Then they came for the Socialists and the Trade Unionists but I was not one of them, so I did not speak out. Then they came for the Jews but I was not Jewish so I did not speak out. And when they came for me, there was no one left to speak out for me.-Martin Niemoeller

I want to know when the muslim girl who was told to ride a camel gets the last laugh and files an HRC complaint against Coulter. Being told that she should only have the rights to ride a camel to me is a lot worse than the president of UofO asking Coulter to be cogniscent of our hate speech laws. The former is a blatant attack based on race and religion. The latter is nothing more than poignant legal advice.

I was actually at event. That particular girl, who in my view attended the event in the hopes of being offended, didn't really ask a question. She was reading something off of the internet. Something she googled with her phone. When she was asked about why she felt the need to ask a question of Ms. Coulter, she stated it was because Ann was talking about Blacks and Gays. Well, yes she was. She was going through a list of examples of when liberals say things that are racist and or homophobic, but get disregarded because of their "good hearts."

Anyways, the girl was reading from a quote (actually a misquote) from a column Ann had written two days after 911, in which she stated, we (American) should invade their countries (the ones possibly associated with the attack), kill their leaders, and convert them to Christianity. This particular girl wanted to know if she should be converted. I personally say she should, only if she's part of the radical Islamic ideology that currently threatens much of the world. If she isn't, then there really isn't any need. Anyways...

Well, Ann attempted to answer, but then this particular girl followed up with another question about what mode of transportation she should take, because Ann had made the point from another earlier column, that maybe Muslims shouldn't fly (do to the terror threats, and previous terror incidents). Apparently this girl's unaware of the use of mocking and satire, she took it very seriously. Another child failed by our poor public school system. Oh well.

Ann simply asked her, and several others who were cheering and jeering what did they want her to say? After severl more minutes of cheering and jeering, Ann finally said, fine, ride a camel.

Big f'ing deal. As I said in an earlier post. That's apparently intolerable, but university sponsored 'Israeli apartheid week' is a-ok!

Free speech advocates say university administrators should be embarrassed that protesters forced right-wing firebrand Ann Coulter to cancel her appearance at the University of Ottawa, an event they claim is an attack on Canadian freedoms.

Coulter, a well-known U.S. media personality, was due to make an appearance at the university on Tuesday evening, as part of a three-city tour of Canadian campuses. But the event was called off after hundreds of screaming protesters showed up and organizers deemed it to be too dangerous to continue."

I'd be the first to proclaim Ann Coulter to be a bona fide dillhole. Others also may remember how she came to a Canadian talk show and claimed that Canada had officially fought as America's ally in Viet Nam, refusing to be corrected. She makes Fox News sound like the BBC World Service.

Still, you either believe in free speech or you don't. You can't say you support free speech and then qualify it by saying you shouldn't actually speak freely. You can't claim to support free speech if you only support those who agree with you.

Those who threatened violence to shut down her meeting are nothing but fascists, by definition! I have no respect for them. Better for them to have boycotted her meeting or better yet, gone there, asked her awkward questions and laughed at her!

And do you honestly think that anyone gives a crap about a person known to be inflammatory in speech, claims she was a victim of hate-speech? Tought titty, this is Canada not the US. If she wants to do her bit, stay in the US where it works and no one says anything about it.

Helloooooo...it was Canadians who invited her to illustrate a point about the sad state of affairs on campuses and free speech in general. They have succeeeded in doing this beyond their wildest dreams.

Coulter will go back to the USA and continue to not give a rat's ass about Canada (as long as the check clears the best banking system in the world...LOL!). She will sell even more books because of this most excellent adventure into the land of muzzled thoughts and words.

Speak out if you must. I too think it's the time for speaking not stopping speaking. I appreciate that you appear to understand the root logic of my beliefs here, and do not brand me as having the same opinions as Coulter.

I think you left out a few things. We have free speech on this site, so don't hold back Mr. Shady. !!

Any free speech rights which we enjoy in Canada are under direct assult from you, and people of your ilk. You're the very embodiment of "free speech for me, but not for thee."

What were some of the "racist" things liberals say that are so intolerable?

Considering the history of Coulter, not just saying it in a column but repeated her notions on fox news, I doubt what she said was in jest.

Finally, I agree with your stance on Israeli Apartheid Week. At U of T, people who asked questions that went against the notion that Israel was an Apartheid state were heckled out of the building. I don't agree with how they operate. Then again, Jewish organizations do exactly the same thing. My view on the conflict and the inevitable Canadian political debates that center around it is that it's both sides fault. It's a cycle of violence that can't be solved until one side becomes resolutely determined to put down their arms whatever the consequences which probably will never happen. Israel builds settlements, a rocket is launched at Haifa, in response, Israel demolishes apartment blocks where they suspect the rocket makers are living. In response, a suicide attack in Tel Aviv etc etc etc. Both sides have a right to exist and to defend themselves, but they have to do it smartly. Neither side has done anything smart since the creation of Israel in 1948.

Under direct assault from me? That sounds like right-wing rhetoric to me if I ever saw it. Houle warned Coulter. She did not consider his warnings. Houle seemed to know that this was going to happen if she decided to be true to her track record. We don't need to complain about what she was going to say, we already have enough basis on what she has said that warrants the letter from Houle.

I agree that death threats against anyone is wrong. But she has no leg to stand on considering how much she has insulted and berated with her right-wing rhetoric. It's not welcome here, regardless of her being invited by a small group who want to applaud her whenever she opens up her mouth.

She was warned of the differences between speech in Canada and the US. Either way she would not have heeded the warnings.

that was unintended...

..but the logical conclusion of such a limited and narrow perspective of what constitutes "free speech". The solution to your opposition is more speech...not less.
