Next time criminals engage in terrorist acts, let's not do anything to them. Let's not stop them, let's not go after them, let's not prosecute them if we catch them. After all, it's not their fault, they were raised that way.

Notice that's pretty much the central gist of the argument that the west uses to account for climbing into bed with so many bloodthirsty dictators over the decades. It's not our fault.

By that logic, we shouldn't go after Khadr's mother either... that's how she was raised.

Oh we should still go after her just with a little more understanding and a 'little' less unreasoning hatred.

first you want to punish a kid who is you claim responsible for his own actions and now you say they're coerced???? which it? the inconsistance of your arguement is glaring...

I haven't commented on the discussion about kids being held responsible for their actions. You have me confused with another poster. What I did post is a link to Khadr increasing his lawsuit from $100K to $10M. My comments about strapping bombs on kids is in response to post #611 by eyeball which I quote.

"Is this the new standard by which kids are to be treated by our justice system then I fail to see what it is that differentiates us from the enemy."

what hypocrisy!

You attributed comments to me which I never made. Do try to follow the conversation and think before you post rather than throw in knee jerk reactions.

BS...they look after their own as well, their mothers cry when they loose their children

Tears of joy when they get their mitts on the blood money.

...this typical dehumanizing mindset that makes easier to kill the opponents because they're not like us, they're sub humans, animals...there are no innocents killed, they're just collateral damage...human nature is the same everywhere, their cause is right in their minds just as you think ours is in yours.....

BS. You just don't know whose side your on so you happily straddle the fence.

it's exactly the same...they don't fear death because they believe in an afterlife just as most of our soldiers do...

Yet our soldiers do fear death. How do you account for that?

BS...they look after their own as well, their mothers cry when they loose their children just as ours do..

Yet, as you yourself said, we require parental consent for under 18 because they're CHILDREN! What mother allows her children to become soldiers/combatants? Some do cry when they lose their children, but from what I've read, they haven't encouraged their children to be combatants/suicide bombers/involved in conflicts. I'm not saying Mrs. Khadr hasn't shed a tear, but if she has, she shouldn't have raised Omar to be where he was. It ultimately falls on Omar's parents that he's where he is now. Since they raised him that way, since they didn't raise him to be responsible for his actions, a good man may have lost his life as a result and Omar certainly is where he is now as a result. So spare me the "poor grieving mother" scenario as she ultimately has no one to blame but herself.

human nature is the same everywhere, their cause is right in their minds just as you think ours is in yours.....

Yet we aren't sending our 15 year olds out on the battlefield, no matter how right we think the cause is, thus refuting your "human nature is the same everywhere" claim.

Don't worry about the poor boy, when this is all over ,he will be living in toronto as a very rich man. Our great country is doomed!

Toronto, like a roach motel in the middle of a pretty living room.

Well, he'll have a Toronto address but there's no guarantee he will be living there. I think he'll have bigger fish to fry abroad armed with a fistful of CAD$. But of course, if he gets injured or sick due to his exploits, Canada will be there to heal him just like it healed his Papa.

Canadian Government Guilty? What government? I don't see any do you? All we have is a prorouged bunch of vactioning twits and maybe a couple of old gangster banker types running their own private empire. If we have an influential man in our midst who pulled the wings of of flys as a kid then we have a force that might enjoy pulling the wings off of angels or maybe even tormenting an innocent youth untill they create a hating and bitter bearded demon.

That's right, not our fault. It's the Cold W...oops, I mean, War on.......support the troops!

Has nothing to do with "fault", and everything to do with "purpose". Bleeding hearts think that way, crying themselves to sleep each night after enjoying the fruits of war.

I'm afraid it's difficult for literate people to extract any meaning from your post.

I agree...you are very afraid.

Are you a Biblical literalist too? Or only here, for the sake of scoring nebulous and useless debating "points"?

This is why I say as go Khadr's right's so go anyone else's.

I have little doubt the hang em' high crowd would like to see Khadr's treatment become the new standard in Canada.

He has a right to a humane treatment, and a fair trial and sentencing.

Avoiding responscibilty for his acts is not a right he does or should enjoy.

We could certainly do more to incorporate that awareness and understanding into our thinking and actions.

Can't hold anyone responsible for their actions because it was there parents who raised them that way, and their grandparents who raised their parents that way, and their great-grandparents who raised their grandparents that way.

So who's ultimatley responsible? According to your logic no one is truly responsible for any of their actions.

you're deliberately pretending to be dumb we're not discussing an adult...he was a child, under our laws not an adult nor could his case be transferred to an adult court...he had no say in his upbringing nor because of that upbringing question his beliefs, a child's beliefs are what his parents tell them they are, he'll no more question them than a roman catholic kid would question his/her parents/Pope instructions... If you are accused of killing someone than your age is irrelevant.

Anyway it is an arbitrary number.

[L]ets see a panel of western leaders get up and proclaim to the world that the west had no choice but to sacrifice the human rights and lives of millions of human beings to save the world from tyranny.

You ask as though it's never been done. Have you not heard of something called the Second World War? Or, perhaps you did but think Hitler should've been given a hug.

To some degree, all age limits have arbitrary qualities to them. But the reason we accept, in this case, that a 15 year old is a smaller adult, is solely and specifically because political leaders have determined it is so.

And people tend towards obedience.

And no, age is not irrelevant.
