blueblood Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 What bugs me about this whole issue is that if the seals were raised on a farm and killed indoors like cows or pigs, and kept out of sight then we would hear virtually nothing about it. I know PETA stands against this too but you don't see them in the face of farmers and ranchers like they are the sealers. The whole thing is overblown. They're already after the Calgary Stampede and are after feedlots, dairies, hogbarns, and poultry operations. The reason you don't see them in farmers and ranchers faces is the foot to ass factor. Army Guy Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 They says some pretty extreme and strange-sounding things, but it was only a pie after all. It's strange to me that pie-throwing has become so serious, but I suppose there should be some comfort taken in that. It's become so serious that some liberals want to see if PETA can by tried under our current anti terrorist laws....who knows maybe in the near future we will have anti pie laws, where if convicted you'll get a life sentence, serve two years and be put on the no fly list as well.... And perhaps pies will be banned from all modes of transportation....and one more question for you while checking in your bags...Have you left them unattended sir, vist any bakers sir, have any pies on your person sir....Thank you for flying liberal air.... Shady Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 (edited) My goal this year, is to setup a fake interview with the Canadian head of PETA, and then pie him or her in the face. This incident would be recorded on video, and uploaded to YouTube immediately. I say a little taste of their own medicine is in good order. Of course, I would use a meat pie. Argus Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Could you define that a little better? I'm a little uncomfortable with the notion of blocking access to our country based on a rather generalistic and poorly defined notion like "animal rights freak". For instance, would you let Jane Goodall in the country? If you're not a citizen, you have no right to enter this country whatever. We can ban anyone we feel is in any way detrimental to good order, or hostile in any way, to any of our institutions. Guest TrueMetis Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 She's an animal rights advocate, in particular the ethical treatment of primates, specifically the great apes. No Goodall is a animal welfare activist there is a huge difference. Animal rights is against the explotation of all animals. Animal welfare is for the resposible use and management of animals. If she was a animal rights activist she wouldn't have called the Edinburgh Zoo's new primate enclosure a "wonderful facility" as all animal rights groups are against keeping animals in captivity. DrGreenthumb Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 Clearly there is a need for a pie registration, and the police can demand a search of your residence for any unreported pies. They could just say the pies are a suspected natural health product and then use c-6 to search the home without a warrant. That is after C-6 passes the newly Conservative stacked senate without the amendment. The Liberal who said that this should be considered an act of terrorism is taking it a bit far. I couldn't beleive anyone would say something so stupid. I mean really, I don't even consider it a serious assault. I don't support PETA or their actions, but calling it terrorist is just stupid. Toad you should get some chickens, they are fun to raise, and the eggs are so much better than store bought. You can free range them in summer, and you only need a small coop with a heat lamp if you plan to winter any. We have about 50 hens and a couple of roosters. The kids sell the eggs to our neighbors and family and it more than pays for the feed. Chickens will eat ANYTHING so they are great for cleaning up table scraps and reducing the ammount of garbage you produce. Quote
capricorn Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 Chickens will eat ANYTHING so they are great for cleaning up table scraps and reducing the ammount of garbage you produce. Totally OT DrG but I just couldn't resist. It was 25 years ago when young Aaron Giles lost his identity bracelet. His grandfather owned a farm in Fairmont, Minn, a place where Aaron holds fond memories of playing hide and seek with his brothers. But a few years ago, Giles' grandfather's old barn was dismantled and the materials were recycled to build a new barn in Elmore, about 45 miles east of Fairmont. It was in those materials that Giles believes his bracelet was hiding. He knew that it had come up missing when he was just a boy of 4 or 5, but he couldn't recall where. "I would spend most of my time out at his farm, and that's the only place I can think of that I would have lost it," said Giles. This summer at Oleson Locker, a meat processing plant in Fairmont, Minn, the facility received chickens from a farm in Elmore, when a worker cutting chicken meat found a shiny object inside the chicken's gizzard. After inspecting the object, she found Aaron's name, address and phone number engraved on the bracelet, and handed it over to the business' owner. "I've heard of livestock swallowing unusual objects, but this situation stands out." Mark Oleson, owner of the meat locker. "It's the strangest story that I have ever heard in the meat locker business". Oleson was able to locate Aaron's father who now lives in Arizona, to help return the lost jewelry to it's rightful owner. Giles, who now lives in Gloucester, MA has since been reunited with his long lost bracelet. http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/246823 Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. Keepitsimple Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 PETA are the same clowns that want to replace Punxutawny Phil - the Springtime prognosticating groundhog - with a robot. Where do these wingnuts come from? PETA proposes robot groundhog By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. - An animal rights group wants organizers of Pennsylvania's Groundhog Day festival to replace Punxsutawney Phil with a robotic stand-in. According to the longtime tradition, if Phil the groundhog sees his shadow on the Feb. 2 unofficial holiday, then there will be six more weeks of winter. If he does not appear to see his shadow, there will be an early spring. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals says it's unfair to keep the animal in captivity and subject him to the huge crowds and bright lights that accompany tens of thousands of revelers each year in Punxsutawney, a tiny borough about 65 miles (105 kilometres) northeast of Pittsburgh. PETA is suggesting the use of an animatronic model. But William Deeley, president of the Inner Circle of the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club, says the animal is "being treated better than the average child in Pennsylvania." The groundhog is kept in a climate-controlled environment and is inspected annually by the state Department of Agriculture. Deeley says PETA isn't interested in Phil from Feb. 2 on, and is looking for publicity. Link: http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/WeirdNews/2010/01/27/12630821-ap.html Quote Back to Basics
