Saipan Posted November 6, 2010 Report Posted November 6, 2010 I voted "Other" and I see most did too. While China already has property rights, Canada [thanks to Trudeau] still doesn't. Quote
Smallc Posted November 6, 2010 Report Posted November 6, 2010 While China already has property rights, Canada [thanks to Trudeau] still doesn't. Canada has legal property rights. You do not have a right to property in the face of a state. Neither do the Chinese....along with most other countries. Quote

In essence, you're saying that Canada is,(with repect to property rights)more oppressive and authoritarian than the crypto-Fascist Chinese... Erm....Yeah.... Machjo Posted November 6, 2010 Report Posted November 6, 2010 What kind of poll is this? You might as well present me with a complex and colourful painting and then ask me if it's blak or white. Even China ha capitalist elements just as Hong Kong has socialist ones, and they're about as far apart along the spectrum as we can get. There is no such thing as a purely capitalist or purely socialist state. This is a gross simplification. Quote With friends like Zionists, what Jew needs enemies? With friends like Islamists, what Muslim needs enemies?
KeyStone Posted November 6, 2010 Report Posted November 6, 2010 Every so often, I ask myself this question. Sure, we have healthcare, but so does other capitalist countries like Japan and the UK (NHS), sure we provide lots of EI and social securty, even the USA does. However, many Americans down in the USA continue to label Canada as a socialist republic like Cuba and North Korea (hell, I spend time on the Politics section of Yahoo Answers). Now, the question is, is Canada more of a Capitalist country or socialist country? Both terms are mere adjectives, and not absolutes. For example, universal education provided by the state is socialist in nature. A real free market would remove standardization, regulation and the right to education and let everyone fend for themselves. That being said, on the scale of capitalism, Canada is probably in the top 20%, while on the scale of socialism we are probably in the middle. Quote

In a truly capitalist state, you'd either build and maintain your own road or buy a jeep with good shock absorbers. As for the police or the military, forget it; make sure you houw has a good alarm system and automatic rifles in the basement. The neighbour just decided to establish a chicken farm, and the other neighbour an airfield? Oh well, it's his property. Sucks to be you. And that's just for starters. Machjo Posted November 6, 2010 Report Posted November 6, 2010 You seem to be confusing capitalism with anarchism. How so? The idea that a road is publicly owned, funded based on ability to pay, yet free for all to use regardless of their contribution to its construction, seems socialist enough a concept to me. I'm not saying I'm against the idea, but merely that it is essentially a socialist idea. Quote With friends like Zionists, what Jew needs enemies? bjre Posted November 6, 2010 Report Posted November 6, 2010 (edited) If Canada is a capitalist country, why it spent tax payer's money to buy flu shot each year without vote? If Canada is a socialist country, why it need to spend more tax payer's money to broadcast advertisement on FM96.3 to attract people to receive flu shot? Canada is a place for powerful people to rob money, to spend tax as much as they can. If the socialism element good for money robbery, they choose socialism, when capitalism element good for money robbery, they choose capitalism.
