Intelligent people 'less likely to believe in God'
GostHacked replied to Drea's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Not much of a gene pool there. If Adam and Eve are the first, then the children would be the second generation. Then what about the third generation? Seems like some incest going on there. To harsh? I doubt such genetic diversity in the human species could derive from just two people. That was one thing I thought about when someone brought up Adam and Eve... I would get a reply of immaculate conception. Now the Tree of Knowledge should not be shunned, it should be embraced, and if eating that fruit garners more knowledge and understanding that should be considered a good thing right? But it is not. The religion wants you to stay dumb so you can be manipulated. ---- An observation. Throughout this thread we have gone in a couple directions. We talked about the scientific method and how it tells us how the universe works around us. None of us swear on the future theories because we know they could change and possibly be wrong altogether. But the theory is still backed by scientific method, test, prove, repeate. We then talk about religion and god, this got us more into a philosophical debate about what god is and such. Religion teaches us that god is everything and that is it. Can intelligence mean that you understand that there are hypocracies within religions and denounce them based on the hypocracies? Can intelligence mean that you denounce the scientific method only when it comes to dealing with the God question? -

Agreed. And if they knew all the reasons, some won't be happy about it. Shadey salesmen always screw you in the end. And this is why I keep saying about the war was packaged. From your statement, you say that it does not matter how it was packaged, and you said that you supported the deceit that brought on the war, and yet you say those people should know the truth. -

Maybe for the fact that billions of people are affected by the US's foreign policy? To them I think it matters. To those dead American soldiers who fought for the control of oil, but their families thought they died for freedom. Well, even if you don't give a shit about the Iraqi's who have been affected by the fallacy of this war, you should give a shit about your American bretheren who died for oil and not freedom. I had/have friends that served in Afghanistan. I don't want them to die for the wrong reasons. Some still think it is about freedom, others that know it is about oil, want out badly. -

I am not familiar with Aquinas, but it is something I will read up on tonight. However... Aquinas, from the logic in the previous posts that I have made, should not have said anything about God. He can say god is not perfect, because Man is the image of God. And we are far from perfect. So no one on this planet can say anything truthful about a god that cannot be proven or garanteed as fact. This is even stranger than debating that there is a god in the first place. Perfection births perfection. For arugments sake, let's say god does exist, but he is not perfect. Then we can try to imagine what is imperfect about this god. But saying anything definate with resolute that God is anything specific, goes against the religion of 'taking the name in vain'. Everytime we make a claim about God, we are doing so with the possibility that we are wrong. To me this leaves things open to interpretation, which the ever growing number of branch religions show us that there are lots of interpretations. Who is right? All of them? Not possible. So all religions are in err of the 'don't take God's name in vain' because they say they are right and say it is a fact, and then swear on God's name that they are right. But we can see people from many different religions do just that. Claiming righteousness over all other forms of religion. Also if God is immutable, why have I not heard from him at all? -

Nope, to the general population it was presented as a war on terror. And, the people control the government. But we clearly see this is not the case, so there is no democracy. So bringing freedom to a place where there was no intention of bringing peace is another fallacy because there is no freedom or democracy to bring to them. Gotta have it to give it. This war on terror is a war to gain control of the resources in the Middle East. Why not present it as such? We should see on the news that America is after oil. But we don't see that on the MSM now do we. All we see is the war on terror and bringing freedom to the masses. I guess America is taking the region because they no longer want the Saudi's to control the oil into the US? Because as it is, the US has to go to the Saudi's and ask them to increase the oil production output. I think what you all fail to understand is that it was presented as the War on Terror, but it actually is a War for Oil. So the ruse of the War on Terror should just be dropped altogether. This way we can see clearly what is going on. because if you have to fool the public to support a war, then you are not doing your job right. -
I spent many a nights with good friends watching George Carlin. This guy should have done movies with Cheech and Chong. IF he did, I wanna know about them.

If Mission Accomplished was not stated, then this would not be an insurgency. It would still be a war. Which it still is, a war on terror. It is all how it is classified, which allows them to stretch the truth, or to get around the law. You never get a straight answer out of politicians or the commanders in the field. The reason why the war was so easy (eventhough the Military said it would be a tough battle, you know chemical weapons and all that stuff.) is over 10 years of sanctions, two no fly zones, and one previous war, anyone with a lick of intelligence could figure out that Iraq was not going to be able to put up much of a fight. But still Iraq was the next biggest threat to America. Which we know it has never been a direct immediate threat to the US. -

War should never be popular. But if it is happening, I do suggest paying attention to it. It is because of our modern media and our severe case of ADHD that we do not pay attention anymore. Why? Because the pundits and politicians tell us we are not interested anymore. So we go along with it like the sheep we are. Iraq what? Oh that country, how is it working out? I said is represented the mentality, and I meant it on the whole. There will always be exeptions, so no one should get offended with a blanket statement. But I will keep on blanket statements, for it seems the majority is thinking about it. Granted that much are thinking about the economy at the moment. Hell I thought wars were GOOD for an economy. This seems to go against that common convention. M Hardener. Those expectations were given to us by 'intelligence experts', 'some governmental offical'. Rummy, Bush and Cheney gave us those high expectations. Shock and Awe. They will greet us in the streets as liberators. Got the population all on board because they were told it was going to be an easy win. And we see that is not the case. Not sure how you measure progress. Or if all of us are basing on what we are given by the media/government. Remember, Public Affairs is just another term for Propaganda Department. If we are basing our decisions on what is reported in the media, then we are still being lied to. If they did it once, it can be done again. -
Intelligent people 'less likely to believe in God'
GostHacked replied to Drea's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Do not swear in the name of God on the possibility you are wrong. I guess because of this God is 100% righteous. I have a problem with this. If we are made in the true image of God, then he is fallable as well. For we are not perfect, and that was his intention, for us to be perfect in his eyes. I can only be perfect in my eyes, or the eyes of my peers. I never claim to be perfect, and no one should. Not even a God himself is perfect, just because of all the wrong that happens in the world, and no matter how much we pray to God, it does not seem to do anything, we do not get a response(from an outsiders view on religion). Not to mention that much that is done wrong, is done in his name. So my interpretation is, because you could be wrong, don't ever swear on God's name that it is so. One should never swear on God, that God is the greatest, because there is a chance that you are wrong. -

I think I get it a little more. Do not use the name falsley http://www.jewfaq.org/name.htm This makes sense to me. But this is the Jewish perspective. Followers of other religions do the same thing. I guess for the same purpose. So swearing by G-d that something is truthful is actually against the rules on the possibility you are wrong. Alright so I have a hard time wrapping my head around that one. -

Why do people do this ?? G-d? There has got to be something behind this. -
Because the US simply did not want it known that they played a part in the gassing of the Kurds. So the intelligence (buying yellowcake from Africa) was just a sidetrack to throw people off the real trail of evidence. The intelligence was presented to dupe an ignorant population to support the fallacy of the war on terror. But you don't have a problem with this. Yes we know it was on the agenda as US policy. And you make that quite apparent. You also say that more deception should have occured to support the end means of invading and permanently occupying the Middle East. But you never say that it was wrong to lie to the population to get them to support A, when in fact B was the actual plan all along. This is the thing you obviously have failed to understand. This would never fly in a corporate environment, so why should we tolerate it on a governmental level? Ignorant people don't read between the lines to get the full story. If this was the case, the war on terror would have never been supported. Because the fallacy of it all would have been laid out in plain sight for everyone to see. Are you calling me a fool? Because for the most part I agree with you, but that does not make the situation right. If you think that does make it right .. then you are among the fools.
-
The thing is, it is your neighbours they are fooling not me.. I am just a Canadian. It is not really me I am concerned about. It is you. Yes I know you don't care, that much is apparent. But again, your intelligence failures are the reasons why the public thinks the US is in Iraq. It is those people that are the fools.

This kind of attitude that BC loves to show, and that seems to represent the mentality in the US. This arrogace will garner another 9/11, and the people of the US will wonder why they got attacked again. With the stuff that spills out of people like BC, I won't cry when it happens again, I won't be surprised when it happens again. But he will be surprised. -
All before Canada was a country, so you were in fact fighting the British and not Canadians. And I hoped you gave the French that helped you some freedom fries. Funny how you kicked the throne only after an invasion. Just like Jihadists attacked your throne, so you invaded Iraq. Which does not make sense either. But that is the american way I guess.
-
Define kicking the throne?

Exactly, we did not burn anything down, so saying you kicked us in the throne is quite dumb. Ironic indeed that you did not pick up on this.

Psychologists discover a brand new disorder...
GostHacked replied to Brain Candy's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Half these so called disorders don't really exist at all. ADHD - those are just kids with more energy than others. Also kids are kids and don't have a large attention span to begin with, this developes over time. When I was in high schoo, there were none of these so called social desieses we hear about these days. ADHD being one of them. Depression is iffy for me. It is a chemical imbalance, but what really causes depression is that the person is simply not happy with their life, even if they cannot see it or notice it at all. That was my case. Once I changed my situation, my depression went away. I had to retool my brain in a sense. My destructive thought patterns/process got me into the depression, I did not know how to break the brain loop. But I eventually did, and without drugs. Today my mental health is the best it has been in 15 years. Once you recognize what triggers your depression, it is a hard long process to fix, but the depression did not happen over night, so don't expect a cure overnight. Almost half the commercials I see these days are for some type of drug to fight some deficiency. -
Don't ever recall the US and Canada going to war with each other. And don't forget who burned down your White House .... twice.

Fight the SPP / North American Union
GostHacked replied to V for Vick's topic in Canada / United States Relations
http://history1900s.about.com/od/1940s/a/empirecrash.htm Topaz, I doubt the B-25 was an inside job. The Empire State Building is drasticly different in construction compared to the World Trade Center. Mostly reinforced concrete and steel. THE ESB is a very very solid building. A slow moving B-25 (already going slow due to weather conditions did not cause as much damage as one expected. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_707 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_767 767 is slower than the 707, but the 767 had a larger capacity for cargo, not sure about fuel capacity. And I have looked into the SPP and NAU, it is happening economicaly first, then it will be one large 'country'. -
Senate - Spanking is child abuse
GostHacked replied to cowtown's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
A few good spankings prevented me from ever having to stand before a judge as a defendant. Disciplin your children, but don't abuse them. Young children simply don't quite understand about actions and consequences. Telling a child for the most part wont do a damn thing, unless they are naturaly smart kids. A spaking instantly tells the child that the previous actions were not the right choice. Bad choices = pain. No one likes pain, so this teaches us to make better decisions. I got many spankings when I was a kid. And holy crap did I ever deserve some of them. Those lessons you never ever ever forget. That is key here. Argus is on par with my train of thought here it seems. -
I sure as hell won't be surprised when the next 9/11 happens. American arrogance demonstrated by BC and the like are one of the reasons why this 9/11 happened.

Intelligent people 'less likely to believe in God'
GostHacked replied to Drea's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
So maybe it is not a question of intelligence, but more of a question of wisdome learning from lessons through life? But we have to start with simplistic models, it would be hard to start with the complex issues first, those should only come out after the simple issues are worked out. -

I have looked into quantum computing as well, if they pull this off, the processing power of computers will just be light years above the current technology. Lots of scientists are betting on this. For there will be a limit to how fast computes in their current configuration will be. The chips are not really getting faster at the moment, we are stuffing more processors on a single die. Mind you the bus speed is getting pretty fast, and the cache on the chips are just incredible as it is. Well this is exactly what you proposed. That new theories will replace others. When in fact it compliments them. Gravity's applications will never be irrelevant. Relativity unified the theories, replacing nothing. Well we understand that things can and/or do change with more understanding. That is what science is all about. We expect and understand changes can occurr. Religion offers nothing like that at all. It essentially has not changed or evolved to keep up with the modern society. Science is an ever adapting/evolving process of understanding our world around us. Religion just tells us that god did it, and that is all there is to it. I recall watching a video on creationism. There was a man on stage with a guitar in his hand singing about how stupid evolution was. The crowd was made up mostly of grade school children. In another part of the video, there was a bunch of people standing around a dig site. One person says, 'well about 2 million years ago, this happened', another pipes up says 'Where you there?' This seems more stupid than saying evolution is stupid. Of course we were not there, but the evidence lying around the planet gives us a pretty good picture of what the world's history was like. We can turn this around on the creationist. God created the earth 6000 years ago, but are you sure? Where you actually there? There is even a creationsists museum in the US. Depicting man living along side the dinusaur. But how do they know for sure? Where they there? So maybe we can equate intelligence with having an open mind period. Instead of discounting things outright, take time to investigate and check the facts, and recheck the facts. To me the bible and other religious text give in to the closed minded mentality. They are brought up to think a certain way, it has been engrained into them from the start, never even knowing or possibly thinking about 'what if there was no god'. Ignorant people will say, god did it, how dare you say otherwise. Those people are closed minded and are probably not that intelligent. If you ask others 'what if there was no god' and they don't say anything, they are at least thinking about it. Those to me are people that are more open mindend and more intelligent. You can switch it around, what if there really is a god? Well, the possibility is definately there, but for all evidence presented before me, it really is a matter of faith and beleifs. For the most part they are untestable. You can test one persons faith, but testing the faith itself is an impossible task. I am the kind of person that puts faith into proveable testable theories and concepts. I cannot prove or disprove god, and I have a problem with that when it comes to most devout people. They cannot even fathom that anything but god did it. -

Even if I could respond you would say that you (and the rest of the US) does not care. So this can be seen as trolling, because this is being totaly facetious. Which tells me your ideology of freedom is seriously flawed.
