  1. Well, there is this whole War on Terror going on. It plays on them mind of 'what could be'. For the most part this is what you see in media. Terrorism seems to be the largest enemy out there. On the battlefield, wounding is just as good as killing. A wounded soldier need a medic, resources are spent on to get that soldier back to base to heal up. You don't need to send resources to a completely destroyed city. You do need to send resources to a wounded city. I can cause you more harm by taking little chunks out of you than by doing it in one blow. Things get across borders all the time without needing to talk to customs. How do you think drugs and weapons get across borders? http://www.cbc.ca/news/yourview/2007/09/bo...t_of_under.html Those Giger counters are best effective when actually used. .... We also now see that Russia is flying a few long range bombers to Cuba. Interesting developements. Another Cuban Missle Crisis on the horizon?
  2. Well kimmy, that was a great post. I enjoyed the read. I have not visted many other political forums, but I am really glad that for the most part the posters here on MLW are respectful. There is the odd name calling now and then, but that is everywhere.
  3. The US is just as concerned that a dirty bomb situation has the same probability as a missle strike. Sneaking in a bomb might be easier than firing a nuke from a sub or land. Many things in place to intercept a missle. Not many things in place to stop a dirty bomb from being transported across the border. The US has done tests on this already with the Canadian Governments help. These tests showed that the bombs made it through. Not to mention that a missle shield was utterly useless when it came to the event that was 9/11. The largest terror attack on US soil was done with boxcutters and civilian aircraft.
  4. It shows that people make mountains out of molehills whenever they can. And yes the danish thing is just as retarded.
  5. I don't ever want to get into a car with a person who thinks that pot does not impare driving. Depends on how fast you drank that beer. I know if I chug a beer 5 minutes later I am going to feel the effects of it. Plain and simple. If I sip the beer for the entire hour, then you would be correct. But many of us rarely make a beer last an hour. Mine last 20 minutes ..tops. Normaly it takes about an hour for the liver to counteract the effects of alcohol. This is why people wait an hour before they drive. Now if someone had 6 beers in 6 hours, and paced themselves. Chances are they will be fine to drive. If I smoke a lot in a night, I can still feel the effects the next day when I wake up. Absolute bullshit. I can smoke a small joint and feel fine in an hour. I can smoke a cannon and be meesed up for a couple hours. It can and does last more than an hour depending on your intake, just like alcohol. I have smoked to the point where I have to lie down for some time. My head was feeling really light. All actual studies done on cannabis and driving have shown that cannabis users do not cause increased accidents on our roadways the way drunks do anyway. In fact quite the opposite is shown. Cannabis enhanced drivers most often drive more slowly and carefully and are in fact LESS likely to cause an accident than even completely straight people who have a tendency to road rage and take unnecessary chances. Actually, I don't think this has anything to do with pot but more with the persons driving ability in the first place. Calm drivers are calm drivers all around. I am one of them. Idiot drivers will be idiot drivers and more so with alcohol or pot. There is no scientific proof because the scientists cannot agree on a standard level of intoxication. I am guessing alcohol had those same problems in the beginning. There is no easy way to test for pot impared driving. Well I tell you, I love to smoke and play video games. It does provide some focus and you ignore many things that would normaly distract you. However. one only say 'wow, am I ever stoned' when someone says they are really stoned. I think that is evidence enough. You don't need science to know that it does impare you.Ever heard of the term wheelchair weed?? You don't want to move. But that is not imparement right? I agree that pot testing will be tough to do. So why should the government put a testing procedure in place when testing is not reliable giving all sorts of results. Since testing cannot be pinned down, it is hard to prosecute. One a base has been established, like that of alcohol, then you can impliment road side tests. If you test for one drug, you should be testing for all drugs for driving imparement. Hell even over the counter pharmacuticles can cause driving imparement. Most of them have warnings on the labels indicating so. What it comes down to is having responsibility when you drink/smoke pot/take other drugs. If you have no common sense about it. Then you deserve the consequences.
  6. But it will happen. It took over 50 years for the EU to come together. I figure we are only about 10 years off before the NAU is in place. It may not be practical politicaly, but economicaly it is practicle, and encouraged. When money does something big, government follows suit because the government likes money. Still waiting for links debunking the NAU.
  7. Dr An hour after my beer, I should be ready to drive as well. Common sense is what is needed here. If you feel more impared than you actually are, that means you are IMPARED.
  8. If you do not think pot impares you, then you are a damn fool. Really. I am a long time smoker. It impares you. I can't do my job at work if I am blazed out of my mind. Hell, I got guys fired because of it, they drive heavy machinery where I work. Saftey first. I don't drive while stoned. It is just retarded. Just like drinking and driving. It does not impare you like alcohol does, but your reaction times are absolute crap when driving like alcohol. I have driven drunk and stoned before. Dumb. I have been hungover/drunk or stoned at work before. Also dumb. Basicly some of these laws exist because some people are absolute morons when it comes to taking drugs and drinking alcohol. They have no common sense about it and cannot do it responsibly. I really love that smoke after work. Like most people enjoy a beer after work. But I always make sure I am in good condition for working the next day as well. If everyone had common sense about it, it might not be such a problem that law enforcement needs to get involved to tell you idiots that you are doing it wrong. I'd love to see all drugs legalized. Then you will see who have control and who does not. I also think that drugs like cocaine and heroine are very dangerous. I have never indulged in either, but I have taken many other drugs in my lifetime. I prefer weed. All other drugs make me feel really odd. I know I am odd to begin with, but .. So please have some common sense and responsibility when taking your chemicals. There are others out there, doing it right, having a good time, and not driving into other cars because they took a cab, bus, or someone got the DD job. Edit .. It has been years since I have been blazed at work. It was in a call center. I could not even do THAT simple job stoned. Lesson learned.
  9. Mdancer Something called the Cold War. I know. But look, take a look at things going on. And you know the plan must have been in place for a long time. In a business term, you need a roadmap. No roadmap, no progress, no goal, no advancement. The NAU is not far behind. Economically it makes sense to do it because of the new entity that is the European Union, using thier own currency called the Euro. This makes them a huge player as a whole in world markets. Instead of all of those individual countries trading in each thier own currency, having to set up finnancial institutions in order to trade and do business with each other, they all got on the same page and agreed to a roadmap in essence. Since all these financial institutions are now standardized across all countries involved, they can trade in a common currency giving them more buying power globaly. For the last while the US has done a pretty good job of dominating and for the most part dictacting monetary trading for the planet. Almost everything is traded or based on or compared to the Greenback. After outspending the USSR during the Cold War, the US had the advantage of buying power. The economy was booming, and largely due to their build up during the Cold War. So, in order to compete with this economy, the EU got established to give them more clout. Also because they knew that China was going to become a large player very fast and very soon. In a global market, it makes complete sense to creat the NAU. Canda, the US and Mexico can create a powerful player as well in the global markets. I have posted before of how everything is a conglomeration of money/power/government. Large monopolies of corporations exist, larger than ever before. Business is doing it, governments are doing it. Hard to deny this when the evidence is quite clear. So with the amalgamation of business and governments, it is quite obvious that militaries will be integrated and standardized as well. So back to the thing of not being able to cross without permission. You are correct I guess. I would guess that with the NAU there will be a common standardized military across the continent. Dunno they erased my brain again. So .. what were you talking about? Durrrrrr.
  10. Okokokok, I'll be Bob. Spec Ops cross borders all the time without permission. Are you sure about that?? Care to offer up some links for us to peruse through? I don't see any. Canada and the US are pushing for more integration between our two militaries. This is a fact. This integration has been happening for a couple decades now. It is being accelerated today because of this 'war on terror'. You know, keeping North America secure n stuff. The NAU will erase the borders creating one large entity. At this point, there will no longer be Canadian or US troops. The integration will keep on happening until it is one NAU military. IF you think I am full of it, we can use the European Union as an example of what will happen in North America. Most countries have lost their sovereignty because Brussles now controls it all. The EU government has control, and is gaining more control all the time. The integration of the European countries, economies, and militaries all point to one localized government which will treat all countries as 'provices' or 'states'. National identities wil fade away for the new identity that is the conglomeration of the EU.
  11. It is not hard to get the information. Anyone can make a request for the information from the government. However, they are not going to advertise that the information is available. Harper made promises of a more transparent government, but his actions clearly show that this is not the case. More secrecy, more back room negotiations, which would indicate that Harper and Co. are circumventing the regular and long established processes. I will say Harper is a smart man, and has smart people working with him (or for him?), which puts no doubt in my mind that there is too much hush hush. Dammit all to heck.... my tinfoil had fell off my head and I stepped on it as I was getting up from my desk. My coworkers think I am a little odd.
  12. Nah, it's just those threads in where Canada is not even mentioned, but you never fail to bring it up. Eventhough this is a Canadian website, we do have US topics, and many other topics, buuuut you never fail to bring up Canada. I thought it was cute at first. But what I think does not matter. "But but but... he does it too...." is nothing but a cop out. But since this is the Rest of the World section of the website. I guess you can do like South Park and Blame Canada whenever your little heart desires.
  13. http://www.canada.com/topics/news/story.ht...ef-902a1d14879d
  14. lololololol... this is why you bring up Canada 92% of the time ...lololololol Also, the French don't bother me none. GIT YER FREEEEDUUUMMM FRIIIEESSS !!! As long as it has cheese curds and gravy.
  15. The US and Canada has had military cooperation before. It has happened in emergencies. However, these new measures allow a US ranking officer to command multinational forces in Canada during emergencies. And vice versa. It would allow the militaries to cross borders without permission. With the creation of the North American Union, you can also expect to see Mexican military personelle taking commanding roles in the US and Canada. This is the case for the European Union. Ask yourself this: If the NAU is to open borders and create a North American Union, why would the US spend all this time and money keeping those pesky Mexicans out of the country? In due time they will be able to travel across the border without much ado.
  16. You sure that is irony? Carry on....
  17. Yep. Well you voted, but since our elected representatives do what they want regardless, your vote means crap. Governmental policies are around much longer than any termed PM or President.
  18. Yep, you could not resist taking a hit on Canada. Thought you would be nice for a moment or two. Anyways back to the topic ... which I don't know much about.
  19. Not to derail this thread.... but in terms of surveilance. Britian has more CCTV cameras per capita than anywhere else on the planet.
  20. I really wanted the X-Ray specs. Too see through clothes. As a growing boy, I was curious about the girls. . I have also had a couple friends who ditched their cars for the bus. A couple still have vehicles, but they don't use them as much. My one pal found out how much cheaper it was to take the bus than to drive his car to work and pay for parking. He also found some time to read. And because he saved some money, he bought a fantastic new guitar.
  21. I am actually a great example of loosing the dependancy of the car. It was tough at first to adjust. But I thought about the money I am not spending, and I got over it soon enough. You are right about public transportation. It is great in large metropolitan centers. I live in Ottawa and the bus service here is pretty damn good. I get to work on time and not stressed because I don't have to deal with many of the idiot drivers out there. Also there are many lanes dedicated for busses. Even a dedicated transit route that only the busses go on. It is not like this everywhere though. I used to live in Sudbury ON. The bus service there was almost non existant. And in that case I did need a car.
  22. Actually it is not meaningless. If everyone is worrying about higher gas prices, why not get rid of some of the uneeded items that use expensive gas. If you can get away with one vehicle instead of two, I encourage it. Think of it this way: You will save quite a bit of money if that happens. Sell the car. Sure you are going to loose on the initial purchase,,, but that is a car for you. Next you will save money on insurance. Which also means you save money on gas, and regular maitanence. You will also save on expensive repairs, like if you got into a car accident. Don't wait for the oil industry to change so you can change. Make the changes happen with you first. Then you will see what happens down the road. Someone has to take the initiative. It won't be the oil tycoons. The way to make the energy producers rethink their strategies is to not give them the money. Once they see the money not flowing in (or as much as it used to) they will think of new ways to make money. If one of these avenues is in new renewable energy, then money will be made and people will be happy. I have not owned a vehicle in 7 years. I take the bus to work. I do miss the convenience of a car, but the amount of money I am able to put towards other things is so noticeable, I doubt I will ever go back to owning a car. And if I really need a car, like for a trip, I will rent one. Speaking of cars, I thought this was quite dumb/hilarious/odd. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ev1 http://www.technologyreview.com/Energy/18042/ http://www.chevrolet.com/electriccar/ GM is pimping out it's new eletric vehicle. Chevrolet Volt, will be an electric vehicle powered by lithium-ion batteries backed by a small gas engine that can get about 60KMs on a charge. Compare this with the EV1 that GM produced in the mid 90's with lead acid batteries and no back up gas engine. that got over 250kms on a charge. GM is now saying that it is working with the utilitiy companies to get the infrastructure in place to put up charging stations across the country. So why did they not start 10 years ago when they made the first electric vehicle? It is also interesting to note that while on the Chevy website they claim that for someone that drives under 40 miles a day, the car is perfect for them which will produce sero emissions. This will meet the majority of our demands on how much we can use the vehicle in a day. The EV1 did more than that, and it did not need a gas engine helper. The new Volt used a standard wall outlet to charge the car. The EV1 did that as well. One of the reasons GM stated that it discontinued the car, was that it would not make money on it. So back to oil burning cars. le edit So, decrease your dependancy on foreing oil by one third, get rid of that extra vehicle or two.
  23. BC The easiest way would be to buy the oil from Iran. The Chinese and Russians are doing it. The hard way is taking control of the oil. I guess the US likes to do things the hard way. Both Iraq and Afghanistan are proofs of that. With the money spent on the US Military since 2001, could have easily bought all of Iran's oil. Well maybe not that much, but a good chunck of it. Buuut, since Iran wants to sell their oil in their dollars with the Iran Oil Bourse, the US sees this as a threat and decides to take over the country. This is how it will play out. We both know that. Yes folks BC is the master of clarity. Wait... this could be taken as an insult ... I better watch myself ...
  24. Initially I wrote You said OH I see, at first you were asking me if Saddam was still alive. Then you went on about US giving weapons to Canada. Sorry for the confusion.. So Iran with the bomb is alright by me then. Pfffff. That's not what Bush tells me !!!
