  1. So what you are saying is that it was a total set up?
  2. Both wars are not just. I never supported Canada going into Afghanistan. The same reasons I never supported the invasion of Iraq. Afghanistan is a NATO let mission. Iraq is a US led coallition. Canada does not have the troop numbers or the financial capitol to invest in Afghanistan. The US has spent trillions of dollars in Iraq. Both countries are still quite messed up. Proves that the more military and money you pump into a country does not mean you will reach your goal. Iraq and Afghanistan are still in the same condition they were 10 years ago. But people like BC obviously ignore that fact. And who cares, it is not about bringing freedoms or killing terrorists in these countries .. it is about oil gas and other resources.
  3. I can't take this at face value anymore. Because BC you are the one saying all this is irrelevant because it was about oil and never about WMDs. So more fun and games over who thinks what is important. Saddam never breached anything because the reasons for war kept changing because the so called 'smoking gun' was never there in the first place. jdobbin Exactly, but you know ... Plame Canada.
  4. Rue It seems like we have such a poisinious enviromnent to live in, and to you, is a large cause of the problems. Because of our toxic environment, it causes these problems, the mother is exposed to them, the unborn child is exposed to it, .... our lives are very toxic. Get rid of the toxins and you could really do a good job on mental ilnesess. There is usually an outside factor as to why kids are ADHD. Both me and my sister have beat 'depression'. My cousin beat his ADHD, my other cousin kicked his depression to the door as well. My family is not huge, and 4 depressed kids is a large number. Why did all of us kick the depression? We now know what causes and triggers it. It was our enviroments. I was unhappy in a dead end relationship I did not know how to get out of. My sister would work to much and never have time for herself. My one cousin was always angry and in a confrontational mood, the other cousin was just hitting a low point in his life. Outside factors are what causes these conditions. Most can be axed by you alone. And for the record, the medication made me feel worse than actually dealing with the depression.
  5. It's a good thing I am here, yellow cake from Niger, debunked long time ago. Those Nigerian documents were forged. http://www.time.com/time/columnist/karon/a...,463779,00.html http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html...754C0A9659C8B63 This yellow cake is not new and was from the nuclear program that they had in the 80's before Israel bomed the Osirak reactor. Iraq never had the chance to rebuild it's program after that, let alone the first Gulf War where the infrastructure to make a nuke was taken out for good. If Iraq had actually bought yellow cake from Niger, it would have been in the 1980s. Not in the 90's like the Bush Admin was pimping. It's all about choosing what facts to look at to creat a picture that matches your vision. This is not how our countries should be run. Time article is really more compelling and along with the truth than what BC has posted. We know now that WMDs were not even that high on the Coalitions list. Most of us are starting to wake up to the fact it is about oil. People will lie their asses off to get what they wanted. And Bush et al lied their collective asses off to get into Iraq. And since the war is really about oil and controlling it... all this we see above is 100% irrelevant anyways.
  6. Remember the term, 'don't put all your eggs in one basket'? Remiel,, Let's start back about 60 years or so. When the idea of a united Europe under one common government was considered a nutbar tinfoil topic, but yet here we are in 2008 and we have not only seen the European Union come about. We also have the African Union. Most of us here have heard about the SPP and the North American Union. You will also see unions of several countries in the Pacific and Asia get together. When the pitch of the SPP and the NAU was first thought about, it was to harmonize the economies between Canada, the US and Mexico. Making free trade easier between the countries. This was presented as the government leaders making deals on behalf of big buisiness. The only way for any country to be economically viable is to produce a product, commodity, or service to sell to other countries. This also creates investment into each other through each countries nationalized banks. The centralized banks hold the cash of the corporations that want to do buisiness with each other. And internationaly it is only done through those nationalized central banks in their respected countries. You really do not need many key players to make a lot of changes that have such a drastic sweeping effect over a whole continent. And with the technology of computers and the Internet, it makes all this happen that much faster and way more efficient. We are told that free trade offers better oppourtinities for The People of the countries involved. Another aspect the SPP is the security which is proposing a joint militarty security effort of North American with an open borders policy. Free flow of not only products, but people and yes, money. If you looked back in the 1970's and 80's there were a few large corporations buying up everything they could get their hands on. Conglomerate corporations was demonized as the big bad entity. One company controlling all within it's reach, all it's affilliates, subsidiaries, contractors, ect ect ect. The People complained because it was not allowing the small business to thrive and succeed anymore. There was no competition, which does not provide much growth and diversity. Government stepped in, and broke many of those large corporations up. Providing again the arena for competition and growth and diversity. In the late 1990's and early 2000's, many of these corporations got bigger and gobbled up more smaller corporations, just like 15-20 years previous. General Electric is one of the largest corporations on the planet. They make everything from dishwashers, to irons, to jet engines to television shows. GE is also just one of many corporations who have their own vehilce for selling their own products by means of media like print, television and the Internet. They can tell you how great they are because the paid spokesperson said so. GE has lobbyists to influence the government to futher their cause. GE also can afford many top lawyers to find loopholes in order to cut corners because making the dollar is top priority over everything. So the government changed the rules because of the financial gains that could be gained. And all this cannot happen with out at least some cohesional cooperation between leaders in governments, CEOs and big financial investers. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/7484639.stm Here is an interesting thing I read recently. Two large worker unions, one in Britian, and one in the US, will join up to be one international intercontinental union. Really everything we see going on around us is consilidation of power. Just imagine the impact this would have, if they decided to strike. Not just one country is affected, but two. So everything again is a consolidation of power on every level. Government, financial (world bank) and corporate. So a full on one world government is not only being acheived, it is being done slowly and behind closed doors and yet we see the results right in front of us. But there is another saying, 'can't see the forest for the trees'.
  7. If you get hired for a job, you can't start changing their rules. If you are a doctor that always worries about an operation that might go against your religion, you need to find yourself another occupation. The work place is a place of work, and not worship. Again, check your religion at the door, or don't bother applying. g bambino Actually this is right on the money. And because it was really one guy that made a fuss about it... squeaky wheel gets the grease. If he was not alowed to wear the turban, I bet you any money this man would have left the RCMP. Hypothericaly if this was the case, then the whole turban thing is a joke and an insult to the RCMP uniforms and traditions.
  8. How far down this rabbit hole do you want to go?
  9. No way ... boobs come in different sizes???? Men come in different sizes as well. Maybe we can get an oversized novelty RCMP hat to fit over the turban.
  10. Knowing you might want to put on a turban and not the hat tells me you are not on my side. Guyser When women were given the right to vote and become citizens, then they have the rights to become part of those 'only men' clubs. They have proven women have what it takes to be in the RCMP. The level of discrimination as you call it, is much lesser for the turban than for the woman. I have yet to hear or see a case about a woman wanting to change the uniform. The only thing that was changed is they have the option to wear a skirt. Which to me is not that bad at all. This was after 101 years of the tradition. And anything that women get into, have the option of a skirt. This does not seem like a bad thing.... I can understand the dilema about women in the RCMP... and now there are lots of them. But there are plenty of women who wanted to become RCMP officers and wear the uniform, the whole uniform , with pride. http://archives.cbc.ca/on_this_day/09/16/ Interesting bit. They also have height restrictions. According to this bit on CBC, the mounties were one of the last police forces to allow women to join the ranks. So it took a long time for change to happen. http://archives.cbc.ca/politics/rights_freedoms/clips/3302/ How about this argument. The turban is NOT Canadian.
  11. You change the hat, you change the uniform. Simple as that. Army Guy If you are hired for a job, you do what you have to to get the job. If you want that job badly enough, then you have to change to meet those standards the job describes. He wants to stand out in the crowd, he does not want to blend in and be a Mountie. He will always be an anomoly. Besides, if I am paying you to do the job, and I have a dress code, I could not give two shits about your religion. If your religion is more important to you than the job, then you have no right to actually apply for the job. Guyser This girl has exactly what it takes to be a great RCMP officer. We even talked about the turban and females in the RCMP. And yes, when you are hired for a job, you check your religion at the door. Simple as that. The regular cops cap is interesting now that you mention it. The iconic RCMP stetson is a formal wear hat. The other hats are not 'formal' So even at that the guy could even wear the turban in an informal situation. But when on a formal parade n stuff.. wear the hat. What about the Changing of the Guards every day in Ottawa? I doubt you would like to see a bunch of turbans and other hats in the mix. It just does not have the same feel to it. The icon is diluted and a shadow of its former self. Some traditions and Icons are changed over time. I also beleive some icons should remain pure. Also, this is worth mentioning. They are mounted police. Like on horses... I guess they should still be using horses.... oh wait they do .. during formal parades.
  12. Or when you take the reason to kill away from them. From now on we should ditch the PC terms. Genocide and murdere is what is happening. Sharkman OHHHHH... you are being sarcastic. Interesting. Shady When you lower your standards everything is achievable.
  13. Wild Bill. Well buying a car today is costing just as much or more. Here in Canada, prices are 20-30 grand for a decent vehicle. So invest in a money sucking car, or invest in the future profit your home can garner. Gotta think ahead. This does not make any sense to me at all. I had predicted in another thread here, that it would reach 200 by next year.... that might be sooner!!
  14. The Soviet Union was different. During the cold war, the US outspend the USSR to death. The USSR invested in the technology and equipment, but lacked funds after the fact to pay the personelle. The military took a huge hit because of it. This was their demise. We know that many Chinese want to emulate and live the 'American Dream'. The emerging middle class in China is proof of this. China has a better chance than the USSR. There is more of an ecomonic tie to the US and the rest of the world, which gives them a huge advantage with being able to survive in the open markets. China has ben invested in by the US and other western countries with textiles and electonics manufacturing. I could be wrong, but I doubt the USSR had as much foreign investement as China now has. I doubt they even came close. Has the US or any american company invested in China during the Cold War?? I will grant you the Chinese could suffer from futureshock, only because the amount of investing that has taken place in China. The USSR never had the oppourtunity, not many invested in them. This is why the USSR does not exist anymore. China is still China. They have survived this long as China, I don't see them going away anytime soon.
  15. France had tested the design for them. Since France worked with Israel on nuclear weapons, there could have been an agreement that testing does not take place in Israel. It would take place in France, or out in the ocean. I am talking about before the ban on ocean nuke testing. Israel has had the benefit of using existing technology and improving on it to a certain extent. (Patriot Missle Batteries). Anyways the testing does not have to happen in the host country. If Israel had developed one on their own and tested it on their own, then the world would know about it. Many countries around the world have the equipment to monitor those siesmic activities. The US can detect a nuke going off in China, those vibrations are hard to ignore when you have the right equipment. So if this kind of shock happened in Israel, you can be sure that many would know about it. Do you support Israel having a nuclear weapon? If so... why? If not, what do you propose we do about it? OH, and to let you know, I have never seen an American nuke either. They are all stuffed into silo's with much much protection. I have not seen any of Russia's eiither, or India, Pakistan, North Korea... Iraq. Don't forget that the US had only tested one bomb before destroying Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Today, you can run a plethora of computer simulations to test nuclear scenarios. So this could take care of the need to actually test one.
  16. And some of us don't fit into any of those groups. And yes the GroupThink (how Orwellian can you get) will be a downfall. The crowd overall says YES, eventhought most think NO, but why go against the grain? Why stand alone? Why go against what you think is correct? Why do people let others control what they think and how they think? And to those who have worked 70 hours last week.... my heart bleeds.
  17. Only law abiding people will ever follow it. So these things never take care of the criminal element. My dad stored his firearms with great care. Even before those laws came into place. Take care of poverty and much of this will go away.
  18. In the end you will have two crappy choices like you did the last election. The new black rookie who lacks experience, but has drive. The old white veteran who lacks recalling any experience correctly, and can't really drive anymore. American Woman, children will always be children. Even the 'gown up' ones. This mentality is reflected in how the elections are run. This mentality is also shown in how the candidates talk to each other and about each other. Most elections around the planet are like this. Which is a sad state of affairs.
  19. You don't have the post secondary, or even secondary, may even be primary education systems in China. They do have the technology, and plenty of that came from 'western' countries. But they do not have the brain power. Or China has no idea how to effectively use that brainpower. But once they get the brainpower, they already have the technology, they will be able to do much more. Being a communist country, all the top brains would work on the common goal. No spotlight, no ego, no problem. Even if you have Nobel Prize potentials in China, does not mean you will ever hear about them.
  20. Iran , economicaly, and militarily is not a threat to Isreal or the US. I would say, Isreal is getting the nukes from the US. The US is a huge supplier of weapons to Israel. The bombs work, because they have already been tested elsewhere. If you want to look at numbers, the US and Russia have the most nukes out of any country. More 'gun's if you will. But none have been fired. And smart people don't just let guns lying around. They sell them to stupid people. Nukes are not the real or perceived threat anyways.
  21. Sharkman http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/7455231.stm They are still doing it, so rockets are still flying. Dog Remember all the hysteria over India and Pakistan having nukes?? Wonder what happened!!?? Eventhough Pakistan and India seem to be rivals, they never tossed a nuke at each other, and yet they have them. Iran poses no threat to the US. For the fact the US can take them out before they take us out. So you are going to see Iraq-ish tactics for Iran. Sanctions, ect, alienating them. But it is for the rest of the Middle East resources. Israel has nukes, so it really does not matter who has nukes. North Korea just trashed their nuke facility today. They were more of a threat than Iran. NK actually has nukes, but soon to be deetroyed.
  22. I have no problem with guns. I have no problem with people owning guns. I have no problem with people carrying guns. I have never owned one personally, althought I am considering a handgun or small rifle for the shooting range. I don't plan to carry it around on me all the time, if at all. More education on gun saftey, more criminal background checks, ect ect. Cannot own/carry the gun unless you have all the certificates. I feel better around someone that respects the gun.
  23. Some Canadian Icons should remain untouched. Army Guy says. Those that bent to the will of those who would rather wear a turban than the coveted RCMP hat, should just simply not be an RCMP officer. It is one of those things that it is all , or nothing. We have traditions to, and nowhere is there the long standing tradition of a freakin turban. All countries have smiliar icons. Those icons represent an important aspect of the country. If that continues and anyone can wear any kind of hat in the RMCP, then it stops becomming the RCMP, and breaks down into something that is a shadow of it's former self. One friend recently was accepted into the RCMP, and she will do just fine. We had the discussion about that one day, and she said it before me. She has worked hard, and will work hard to be able to earn the privelage of wearing the RCMP hat. The hat and the uniform represent something to her in the way she has thrown her life into it, to get the chance to wear the hat. The RMCP officer with the turban will always be considered an outsider to me. Leafless Do you realize you were looking for the word Interview and not Interrogation?
  24. Once any union contract is up, the company can close the plant and be done with it. There is no selling anyone down the river. There won't be any legal reprocussions either. Topaz The rising cost of fuel makes everything else more costly as well. You need fuel to produce things, and when that goes up, the unit cost goes up as well. The rising fuel prices have seriously impacted how we do business where I work. All our stuff arrives and is delivered by truck. Because of that food prices have increased to offset this cost. Overall the profit margin is shrinking because of it. Not to mention since the US greenback is in the shape it is in, the CND is on par with the greenback. My last job in a call center was supporting a contract from Time Warner in the US. Time Warner no longer deals with this company in Canada. They deal with the same company, but now in Puerto Rico.
  25. I will grant the same to BC, he is consistant at least, which is something I do admire. I have a personal love/hate relationship with BC BC is refreshing to me because he is the way he is. Bold, to the point, no fluff. I hate fluff. If our leaders could be so bold and to the point with more fluff, this world would be a better place. And when we look at the oil, power and influence, we do get a bigger and better picture of what has happened and what will happen. BC and other posters including myself, have said long ago it was about oil and power. Hell, not many beleived me, thought I was a crackpot. Example (and this has happened in more than one occasion) Debating with a friend about the war and what it was about. He thinks it is about freedom, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Freeing a population from an oppressive rule. I tell him this was never the case, just like BC tells it. My friend calls me an idiot or conspiracy nut. But once I showed him some information and the descrepencies in the rhetoric compared to the action, he starts to understand what the war is really about. To sum it all up, this guy had a blank look on his face, depressed almost in a way. He felt duped, he also felt stupid because he felt duped. I was in the same situation for some time. Thinking it was about freedom. Yes, I was duped for some time. There are many that are still duped.
