Northern Gateway Pipeline Canned by Trudeau
overthere replied to overthere's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
or jet fuel. The oil in the Kinder Morgan pipeline has been refined into jet fuel-used often at Vancouver airport- for ages. Starting next year, all jets leaving YVR will be run on static electricity, so passengers will have to rub balloons in their hair and shuffle socks on the carpet furiously to generate enough power for takeoff. -
Do you think he has any friends or enemies in the military as a result of his recent, active service? Any debts there? So you'd agree that a recently retired oil company executive is the perfect choice for Minister of Energy?

Yeah probably best to wait and see with Travis. He was (in a small sample size) a better hitter than Goins, but not a better fielder. We have to be careful not to overvalue Travis, he has played about 1/3 of one season in MLB.

You cant build a team on the bullpen? Tell that to Kansas City! Chavez is a depth guy for the starting rotation, I reckon Shapiro is hoping he is another Estrada, a late bloomer. The Jays only get one year before free agency out of Chavez vs a few from Hendriks, so Shapiro is playing for next year, not the future. Pompey brings some skills, but like Goins and Pillar did this year has to bat his way into a starting position. What do you think the Jays do with the Goins/Travis situation? What encourages me is that the Jays actually have some viable depth in position players, a few options that could potentially bring them pitching. 2nd base, left field, right field, first base, SS, DH all have decent options.

How Trudeau will work very hard on dumping FPTP
overthere replied to overthere's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The majority of Canadians are fine with a modified system that virtually guarntees Liberal rule forever? Maybe in your neighbourhood, not in mine. -
colour me surprised. rotation so far is Stroman, Dickey, Estrada. If they could add an ace (like Price which is very unlikely) plus another average pitcher, they'd be OK. They also need at least two more upgrades to the bullpen. And a new GM. I still think they need to and will trade somebody like EE or Bautista for pitching. They need to do it soon though, their value drops rapidly as they enter the last years of their bargain basement contracts. They could manage without one of those bats , but would miss Bautista in the field. It's been great EE.....

Corruption is at the heart of both versions of House of Cards. I'm not sure what you are looking for. Both West Wing and The Newsroom are polar opposites of House of Cards. The former(s) have the perspective that in the end decent people are in charge, everything is OK and ultimately honour/decency will prevail. House of Cards presumes that the whole thing is rotten and the principals are evil soulsucking bastards, all of them.

It is a soap, but a political soap much like much of Sorkins other series, The West Wing first and foremost. Its a bully pulpit for Sorkins relentless Democrat/ lefty bully pulpit, and nobody ever shuts up-=but for all that it is entertaining.

Predict how Canada will look like in 4 years
overthere replied to webc5's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
A major part of the problem is the price differential between our oil and world price, and a lot of that is because the oil is captive with only one customer who increasingly does not want or need it. And yes, all of our govts could do definitely do something about it by building infrastructure to get the product to other markets. Not only would our markets be expanded, the price differential would be gone. But I expect absolutely nothing from any of them now. Trudeau, Wynne, Notley, Coulliard, Clark... these are the visionary figures who are tasked with leading us to a prosperous future. Yeah right. -
The Wild Rose Party would like to sleep in
overthere replied to The_Squid's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Expect a massive new tax announcement from Notley this week. After all, there are a few resource companies still functioning, and she needs to kneecap those ASAP. Corporate taxes, carbon taxes, pending sales tax, massive spending, massive borrowing, greastly increased power rates on the near horizon, a consuming hatred of business/jobs, and higher interest rates coming. Alberta will be Altario before the next election. -
Do you think that somebody very closely associated with our armed forces for most of his life is more or less likely to be an independent and objective person to implement govt policy in the department? Hmmmmm? Would you approve of, in the same vein, Buzz Hargrove negotiating labour contracts for Treasury Board? And why is a doctor a good choice for Health? Knowing all the flu symptoms does not necessarily make a good manager.

Predict how Canada will look like in 4 years
overthere replied to webc5's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
In 4 years we will have even larger deficits and debts at provincial and federal levels. Taxes will be much higher. What will be the real turd in the equation is that interest rates will have increased and the burden will be increasingly onerous. Our children will curse us, with reason. -
Yes, that is a point made strongly many times by David Suzuki when he jets and drives around Canada on tours promoting his books.

Northern Gateway Pipeline Canned by Trudeau
overthere replied to overthere's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Having driven perhaps 20 times along the Stewart- Cassiar road to the Yukon, I know that country far better than you. Perhaps you should check a map, where you will surely notice that there is no 'northern BC coast' . It does not exist. The Canadian coast ends just north of Prince Rupert, about halfway up the province of BC. So what exactly have Trudeaus ministers been told to make happen in regard to a tanker moratorium? What si the extent of the moratorium? The hypocrites of BC are content to export their filthy coal offshore, and dump billions of litres of raw sewage into an ocean they pretend to cherish. No surprise there. -

Oh right, that is an entirely different ocean. -
Waiting for the Trudeau Jnr Flip-Flop
overthere replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Not a peep from Trudeau on the Paris situation, beyond a blithe and incoherent ramble when leaving Canada for Turkey on Friday. He has spoken about our commitment to take more refugees, though I expect world leaders already knew about that. They knew from the Chretien regime not to expect our military to do anythinhg much to aid their allies. He has left poor muppet Dion out to dry, chattering on ludicrously about how Canada is 'supporting France strongly' with words of sympathy, accompanied by providing training to Kurds and sending more blankets to the few civilians left. It took me until now to realize that he is waiting for the polls in Canada to tell him what to say and do. He knows his timing was brutal in beaking off about withdrawing the CF 18s. Now he has to figure out if actual events matter more than election promises. Best to do it the Liberal way- see which way the wind blows at home, then drift in that direction. -

Of course they are content, I don't see David Suzuki pirouettiing in front of mass demonstrations/cameras in front of coal exporting ships or the rivers of shit dumped by Victoria into the ocean.] Hypocrites all. -

How can you have both a moratorium of west coast tankers, and export oil via tanker on an expanded Kinder Morgan line? The current Kinder Morgan line (which was called Trans Mountain for about 50 years) ships some of its output to Wasington State via (gasp!) pipleine, and some goes offshore on tankers. The new expanded line would ship all the new oil offshore. I just don't see Trudau and Co. having the political stones to make the KM line happen. More likely they will dither for a decade or two in an endless round of so of transparency or consultation, by which time the company will have just moved their money elsewhere in the world., -
Paris might be problem for Trudeau
overthere replied to cannuck's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Just about everybody has papers of some kind in their home country, and sometimes it is convenient not to have those papers later, at a point of entry. Not having papers makes you an instant refugee, since you are allowed to stay in Canada while first your identity is sorted out, then your status is determined. Both can take years. Canada cannot just dump stateless persons. The trick is to arrive here with nothing but a sad story that will take a long time to verify. And it is an old dodge by queue jumpers too. -

No, industry knows that business is cyclical and projects that require billions like ports, pipelines and oilsands development will have peaks and valleys. In the meantime, the appetite of Canadians for a fat social contract grows unabated, with the future having less and less means to pay for it. Oh well, somebody will pay for it all. In the meantime, the hypocrties in BC are content to ship plenty of filthy coal, and to dump rivers of untreated shit into the ocean. -

overthere replied to cannuck's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
He has already broken that electionpromise, the 25K will be mostly via private sponsorships since anybody with a speck of sense knew he could not possibly get 25k government sponsored refugees here in 6 weeks. Next. -

You'll be delighted to hear that the Kurds and the western coalition just did that near Sinjar. With air strikes. No blankets were involved.
