The US treats it's soldiers far better than Canadians do...I can tell you that...And i am lucky i did 3 tours there and lived through all of them, it cost me my hearing, my knees, and PTSD, when so many of my comrades' in arms came home in an flag draped aluminum casket, or would later commit suicide...So yes i was lucky. I think we all know someone that has served that has paid a much greater price than i did.... Joining the service was the best thing i could have done, i meet so many of the bravest people on the planet, including US service members...Those were the people i served for, that i dedicated my life to , the men and women on the left and the right of me........i would go to war with any of them any day.... No need to thank me for my service, i didn't do it for , Canada or Canadians, i did it for the men and women in uniform and those that had served in the past.

Not forced, i signed the dotted line to serve my nation many years before we went to Afghanistan, as did my father and his father before him....my government decided to send troops to afghanistan to hunt down and kill terrorist, I did not have a choice where i served....I grew up in a trailer park on the other side of the tracks in NB, i had just completed high school, and my parents could not afford college or university, So ya i had lots of choices .I choose the military, and i'm not ashamed of that fact, it gave me everything i have today... Personally we all have opinions, none of them count for much, 24 Canadians died on 9/11, and almost 3000 Americans, Canada Stood up and answered the US call to arms, it might not have been a huge contribution but we went. nobody asked us if it was worth it, Nobody cared, our brothers and sister south of the border called we answered, that's all that mattered... I think it was very unfortunate that you did not stand with your fellow Americans. You must have had your reasons or maybe you think soldiering is beneath you...

They are NOT saying we are going to end up like greece, but we are headed in that direction....the fact our credit rating has been downgraded to AA, we are in debt well past the trillion dollar mark, our economy is stalled...our dollar is worth less than most, even a 10 year old knows if you have 10 dollars in hand you can't spend 15.... And if we went by your assumption one would have to ask why are we struggling in so many areas, if we have great piles of money to burn....just print more right...

Liberal Party Takes Lead in Polls
Army Guy replied to TreeBeard's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It has been decades upon decades since we last hit 2 % of GDP, and lets be frank some creative accounting, sliding in more departments expenditures into Military budgets, and with the latest news, the Military is expected to cut back 7.5 % this year and 10 % next year and 15 % in 2028, ..that 9.3 bil in new investment is looking smaller and smaller every day...So for the military to get ahead it's budget needs to grow by more than 10 % each of those years...Thats alot of new investment... I've already said that i think Carney is on the right track with spending not only with the military, but the entire security apparatus....but there is a long way to go...SO Carney is doing a fair job so far, while not my hero, he is on the right track in regards to our security apparatus... It looks like the Liberals are trying to find the funding for these increases in military spending...not sure where they are going to cut, but i do remember Carney using those scare tactics in his campaign saying PP will cut, cut, cut social programs , civil service etc...and yet here we are today, looking at cuts....and to be honest i agree with these cuts...and if it happens to be invested in the military then great...but i don't think the left voters are going to like it to much... Defence expected to find operational savings even as its budget balloons -
So we are good to go with printing even more money according to you, why are so many experts in this area saying our debt is way to high can you explain that....and if we can print money why is the feds being so cheap with the transfer payments to the provinces and fix health care, why not build all those pipelines we need ? i got so many questions... our debt load is well over 1 trillion dollars, just curious how much more can we go before we get to greece.?

there are more i took the first bunch off goggle....you should be able to do your own research on something that is known across the country... https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/cbc-news-canadian-broadcasting/ https://aml.ca/the-bias-in-media-bias-charts/ https://torontosun.com/opinion/columnists/lilley-lets-talk-about-cbc-and-their-very-obvious-bias https://theinterim.com/issues/society-culture/cbc-and-left-wing-bias/

There are plenty of things Carney and his staff could work on that does not have a need for new funding, like you mentioned... Yes Justin did submit a budget ....but within that budget there is NO funding for any of Carneys additions.....meaning yes we can pay some bills that are recurring, but thats it.......but it does not address any new Carney spending or campaign promises...which even Carney staff suggest a 90 bil deficit, no plan or parliamentary approval for any of that spending... example where is that 9 bil dollars that carney gave the military coming from....i doubt it was in Justins original budget for the year...lets also remember that there was 10 months left and carney has a whole new plan...what everyone wants to know is for him to be transparent...his finance guys are keeping track of every cent spent and going forward, it is not like they have to find a cure for cancer to give an update....not sure what the problem is...

And while i first thought "bon voyage", the world is going to be a better place with unicorns and rainbows all the way around... But i asked myself this question, where are these NDP voters going to park their votes...the green party, well sane people don't vote green there are extreme left...yes they more than likely be reinforcing the Liberal party and thats not really a good position for Conservatives we need more left sided party's to split the vote... Was all this the consequences of voting liberal for strategic reasons, because the left can't stand PP ? Maybe they should divide all the costs to all those MP candidates that ran ,maybe old sing will have give back some of that pension....
-
Perhaps i did not explain it well enough,a budget is the costed plan that lets everyone know what it is the government is going to do and how they are going to pay for it, it requires approval of majority of parliament to pass...which could lead to another election...The short cut would be not to table a budget, and forego getting parliament approval, not risking another election, and not being transparent with canadians on what your going to spend money on...or like a blank check, becasue nobody knows the plan or what it costs... Carney had like any party a long list of promises ,how was he going to pay for them as he wanted to get going ASAP...it is not being butt hurt but rather being transparent with the entire country, not just conservatives... i do agree with you this country has a large pool of crazy, and it has collided where both sides can rarely talk to each other...

You should ask that question to Greece who had their finances taken over by the EU for years becasue they had over spent. You can't as a nation just print money as long as you want, or our streets would be paved in gold...i know this is a hard concept for the left to see....but there is consequences of doing so...
-
It is not that i don't like those programs ,but if we are running deficits to pay for them then it is time we look at what is nice to have and what we need...I mean i would like the government to give each one of us a million dollars, i don't know how you run your finances but if you constantly spend more than you make someone is going to come for you...
-
No, i'm not, this is the message your sending in my opinion....Most of what any government does is shaped by public opinion, because they want to extend their time in office, this is basic politics 101, and for decades our military has not even been in the top 10 concerns for the public let alone the governments... So yes the public owns a good share of the blame here for past government actions. and then there is the lack of any action from the public, about the current status of the military, or it's treatment of the vets...i find it hilarious that the public can find time to support Palestinian terrorists, or regimes like Iran, with protests, stand ins, but can't find the time to support any of our security apparatus which does more for this nation than any other group in Canada for what seems like an ungrateful people... Not sure what you think can be done by the military public has participation in any unauthorized political event or any protest can end up with career ending results and military charges with a monetary value. as for Vets or retired military personal, they do have a voice and have used it for decades you just have not heard it perhaps due to your lack of interest. The fact that the media has saturated the news market with our militaries condition and still people are not concerned or don't care.
-
Your under the opinion that this is the military fault they did this to themselves....an organization that is subservient to the federal government. It has no choice to obey the government wishes and commands, that's how this democracy works...not doing so would mean a military overthrow of the government , thats not happening... I have no more power or position than you do, making change here in Canada requires millions...and while millions of Canadians do want a properly funded military they lack the will to take action...But i will tell you this, if carney even goes through with just small portion of his plan, people are watching , vets are watching, members are watching thats a shit ton of voters....that will change their vote to see more attention spent on our nation...
-
Carneys announcements are the closest the military has been to getting additional funding, in the last 40 years....during that time the government has promised to make drastic changes, and in the end failed....the military has been used as a cash cow to fund other things....Do i hope things change, yes i do, I'm hopeful more than i've ever been in the last 40 years.... I've already told you that procurement and the military will not be able to spend any large influxes of money unless the remove the miles of red tape place upon procurement as a whole on both side PWSG and military, thats going to take years to fix and implement...then there is the governmental side that needs to be changed, removal of red tape designed to stop spending... Military is already planning to spending on existing and new infra structure like in the 3 northern bases that were promised in everyone's campaign, bases have already planed spending to improve infrastructure, like CFB trentons latest upgrades...Military will not be able to control what the government classifies as military spending to upgrade infra structure elsewhere...and 1.5 percent spread over the nation is not all that much 30 to 35 bil... No one is talking about destroying the economy, just you this will take place over the next 10 years, and we may never get to 3.5 % spent on the military, you make it sound like we have a long history of living up to our agreements...and with every change of government these plans will change smaller or bigger....like i said before the world does not depend on Canada, it's reputation is not very good...and we don't keep our word...Which over the long run i'm not sure why your upset... Canada has reached the point where they need to do Major spending on our military, you may not like it but that is going to happen, The US demands it,our allieds demand it for the most part Canadians demand it, we are about to spend 90 bil over the next 40 years on F-35, gods know what we are going to spend on new frigates but it will be eye watering....looking at new subs with a price tag of over 150 bil....all taken out over 10 -20 years out of the military budget...and we have not wrecked any economy....shit our frigates cost 7 plus bil a piece to keep our economy going...while the British built an aircraft carrier for that price.... our military is teetering on collapsing...it has cut capability after capability off just to survive, Navy is having problems crewing the latest new ships, and are really struggling to man the new supply ship...Canadians don't want a job in the military, because there is no future in it....and when it does collapse we are going to see just what a huge hole is left behind....and at what cost Canadians will pay for not having a military... Canadians don't deserve a military and the people that serve in it...it is disappointing to sign up to serve only to later find out Canadians for the most part don't give a rats ass about you...i can see the disdain in your words, "how dare they ask for anything"....and it is not just you, i've heard the same words the same tone from thousands of Canadians while i served....hence my signature block...
-
Perhaps, or maybe so are you.... No this is not why the military gets nothing, the reason it gets nothing is becasue of governments and people with your mind set your attitude.......but what you forget is regardless of how you fund our military, what type of equipment we give them, our government and Canadians will happily send them into a conflict...these are Canadians, wtf is wrong with this country when we can not even be bother to give them half decent equipment, training, etc etc... You seem to be of the opinion this is Citizens of Canada against the military....and it is not these people who serve do so without complaint they know that Canadians don't give a rats ass about them...and that pi$$es off canadians when to hear regardless of what they do , or fund to them they will always have Canada's back...i ask the question why not fund them ? As for what i'm talking about , i've seen up close and personal what the lack of funding looks like in the military, I've gone through an iltis jeep after it hit an IED looking for enough human remains to make it legal body....while everyone else in AFGHANISTAN WAS DRIVING MRAPs...and Canadians were driving around in open air jeeps...for me this topic is personal...for you this is about dollars and cents...and how it can't be done.... if you know who is going to be in office and what the outcome is why are you worried what anyone says....your positive it will never happen, then so be it, i've already express that to you...and while i'm retired , i have a son and daughter in the military....and again i'm invested in any positive outcome for our military.... I guess we will have to see ....I'd like to know what your background is and what background you base your opinions on this topic....for the most part i do agree with alot of what you have said in other topics....with the exception of this topic...you have nothing invested in it...and like most Canadians have something against our military, and what they provide this country... you can call it whatever you want, but crying for this country is long done.......i call it drawing attention to the topic, or pointing out just how sad it is when a nation can not or will not defend itself...if it had not been for my son and daughter joining the military, it would not bother me in the least what you and others do to the military... I've had to deal with people like you my entire military career...grin and bear it...it is what most military members do...and eventually they will stop being so patriotic, for king or country, and their focus will be for their bothers' and sisters on the left and right of them...everything else will be shoved to the side...nothing else will matter...they will give you as much attention as you give them, Yes military people see what this country gives them, everyday....Thats the way Canadians wanted it to be....thats not what soldiers wanted thats what regular Canadians wanted... Not sure why you think the way you do....but i've seen young men and women, draped with our nations flag loaded up in hercs, because our nation was to cheap to give us the proper equipment...and it has influenced me and shaped my own opinions on this nation....young men and women who pledged unlimited liability to defend this nation regardless of how they treated us...who all they asked for was to to be properly equipped so they can return to their families...and if i read your messaging right, that is to much to ask for....i know that would make me proud and more patriotic.... I may know jack shit about how this nations finances work, but at some point of time the military will lose to many capabilities, that i do know, it will become unable to do the simplest task...by then it will be to late... this is not a pi$$ing contest with me and you...this is about military lives, and how they are valued in this nation...they are not looking for a parade or a medal, they are looking for Canadians to have their backs, to know that one day their sacrifices will mean something...
-
Sure, it is much easier for Canadians to bury their sons and daughters than pay for them to have modern equipment...Not sure why that bothers you so much that finally we are taking our military seriously, i mean the men and women take defending this nation very seriously......I really don't understand your frustration with the idea of finally kitting our our military... The fact we have been doing the exact thing you suggest for over 40 years is really telling for me anyways...Members in the military have asked for generations support us properly or shut er down...this death by a thousand cuts is prolong torture... Being elected to office does not mean you now live the life of riley, get cater to at every turn....it means doing what is best for the country, be it popular or unpopular...they have the responsibility to ensure we regular Canadians are protected...not that hard of a task.... now after 40 years of neglect it is time to fix it...after 40 years it is going to have a huge cost behind that... not that he is an expert at anything, but he and many others seem to think this is possible.

Just saying if there is a will we as a nation can accomplish anything, like vimy ridge, Juno beach, telephone communications, it is easy to say it can't be done, things never get done that way... Manitoba is and wants to expand on that port ,climate change may or may not change that environment where the port can only be used a few months...but expanding the port will expand that city, bring more resources to it...and it gives our nation another port in which to export our products, not just oil and gas, but anything...

Not as fast as the liberals want it, the 20 % ev production is not a well thought out policy, it's got the wacky old environment gibault all over it ....and as for the fines, for missing that goal...they will pass that on to the consumer, who we have already discussed just are not going to pay for that crap...and if they move production to the US, well donald wins, thousands of jobs lost, we pay more for a car/truck, and we are further behind... comparing our grid to theirs is a non starter, our grid is not going to be able to handle the increased demand....getting the provinces to agree on just lifting inter provincial tariffs is not gaining much traction, and getting an energy corridor is mission impossible, nobody wants to play on a team, they want to play for their province...It all boils down to this we need to be united if any of this is going to work...and this is Canada and we don't do that well, unless it is hockey...
