Are Alberta Separatists Committing Treason?
Army Guy replied to TreeBeard's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I'm sure in liberal circles you opinion might mean something, in here your just another liberal chick trying to scream over all the other liberal noise...your real problem is you just need to get laid more often, it allows you to focus on your own issues...like personality... -
Liberals are going to study these shootings and then take to the streets to ask what Canadians really want....much like the last time, Criminals were using guns to do bad things....liberals studied the problem took to the streets and asked Canadians what they thought.....and poof, they decided Legal gun owners where the problem....where does this all head you might ask.......well banning lesbians from gun ownership...it all leads to this one conclusion....Yes ladies and gentlemen lesbians are now the problem....

I'm not cheerleading anything, just looking at the issue from a reality perspective, everyone seems fine with the direction the country is going , while others like Alberta , Quebec are screaming their heads off, while the government is doing what most are doing, sticking their heads in the sand and pretending nothing is going to happen...Carney promised a lot of things during the election, and it seems he can not really deliver on the things that mean the most...which is just driving the wedge deeper and growing these groups like cancer.. And "IF" they continue to grow at this rate what do you think will happen to basic government services, like CPP, OAS, federal government pensions, the list goes on and on...And nobody can tell me that the people will react like good Canadians and take stuff in stride...not Albertans, not indigenous peoples, certainly not the ROC....everyone wanting something different, how do you see it going....then how do you see it going when say the western provinces join in, then Quebec.... -
This problem will be long fixed by the time ours are delivered...it's a non issue.

That's what you hope will happen, but if you take a look at the countries around the world that have separated most end in extreme violence...very few have successfully done it without violence, i spent a good amount of my career in those countries A perfect example would be former Yugoslavia... ....thinking Canada is above all of that is just silly. -
Thanks for the response, but do you have a source so we can put your remarks into context, i find there is always two sides to every coin....and these events did not happen in a vacuum.....You don't find the UN as a biased source of information...violations of UN resolutions are not war crimes...One can not be held indirectly responsible for war crimes, you are or your not guilty...The use of white phosphorus is not a war crime, unless it was deliberately used on civilians, for that to happen someone would have to admit it was intentional and not a accident....White phosphorous can be used as smoke to cover troop movement or to burn infra structure, getting it close enough to the objective can be tricky...

Sure but do you think the population is going to wait years for all this haggling to finish...No they are not going to wait years....there will be protests , which will turn violent and grow from there...The world is full of examples of separations turned violent...in fact very few do not turn violent...who is going to control all of that....think the convoy was bad... the Army, is not large enough to control any of that... And then there is the question of will Alberta be the only one to separate...What about all those western provinces that talked about leaving, everyone knows they have been talking about this for years....what if they decide to leave as well, they after all hold most of Canada's riches........think Quebec will not take advantage of all this, and hold there own referendum... every province that does decide to leave, sees Ottawa's control diminish, i mean what's left Ontario and the Maritimes.. You guys think that this is not going to happen, and yet there are more and more people talking bout separation, not just in the west, but almost every province...they may be small groups now but they are getting larger by the day....so anything is possible....and once it starts it will snowball... -

How does this relate to this conversation, there is a clear path to separation laid out by the courts of Canada....it lays out the process to start and finish negotiations to separate.... You must have read it in order to find that tidbit of info... I personally don't give a rats a$$ what you think about me or my service...You think I'm the only vet that feels this way, your crazy....Vets did everything ever asked of us and much much more, we sacrificed everything for this nation ...Our nation, and the average Canadian can not say that...instead we get platitudes about we are asking for more than our government can give at the time....or guys like you questioning our very service....and then wonder why there is such resentment.... -

That's not how it works...I'm sure indigenous people will have a say in the vote, but they do not have a veto...Like i said if Albertas separation causes it to snowball, which i think it will....then the ROC will be what is left of the country unable to do much of anything... Perhaps it is, but this country is never been closer to self destructing as it is right now, that's not just my opinion but others as well. Canada is not United, but split into many different groups...As for my hating Canada , that's not true...i served this country for the better part of my life, i have sacrificed sweat, blood and tears for our nation....And I've upset over how other forces have been tearing it apart...if anything i have lost confidence in it's people to do the right thing for the nation, ....i've watched them turn their backs on the same people who serve this nation, be it the military, or other security forces, police, fire, Amb , EMS....to many times I've watched Canadians put themselves first in front of the nation...So no i do not hate Canada, or i would have left long ago...but i do have a problem with those Canadians that have put themselves first.... -

It does not need force to separate....just a majority mandate from the people....My question was if Alberta does go, so will Quebec, and many others will follow....SO how does Ottawa enforce those treaty rights if it has nothing but a few provinces left in the union...The west have already table toped all of this , they talk to sask, Man, even BC and if the west separates they have agreed to go with them...why would they not....Quebec goes and that leaves the Maritimes cut off....last time Quebec held their vote Maritimes had already agreed to talk to Uncle Sam...I don't see that changing that leaves Ontario....maybe the Maritimes to upheld these treaties...which mean squat to anyone other than Ottawa.....So indigenous people are really stuck out in the cold....and will have to deal with either the provinces or the US and new agreements signed to or risk having it all taken away.....They are not in the driver seat....like they think they are... -

Don't get me wrong joining the US does have lots of benefits, but it also as some draw backs, Mass shootings, crime, immigration, the left are extreme...and the far right is worse....and as with both nations have issues with health care, massive drug use, housing costs, major social issues....i have family that live in the US, who are American citizens... I would much rather see things stabilize and go back to where they once where, in many issues....others I'm glad trump kicked our asses on and we started to take our responsibilities seriously....not sure on how this joining would work out, i have a good military pension, our Old age pension, and CPP is another factor, who takes over on all that.... -
Do you think it has come to the point where GB, or France would be willing to upset the US by giving Canada access to nuclear weapons or components...I think Trump would flip his wig, and tariff the crap out of them....that alone might give them pause...Britain more than France has dependency on US military forces in GB...another thought that may influence GB to tow the line...France is a wild card...but even they are or could be influenced by at least tariffs... Your right i have been a huge fan of investing more into our military....Nuclear weapons offer very little protection or hard military power unless you have enough of them. and is a weapon of last resort...conventional armies will be what gives other nations pause or reconsider their actions....having both puts you in a different league all to together. https://www.icanw.org/what_about_nuclear_deterrence_theory Your statement of a weapon that can prevent wars is more effective than a weapon that can only be used after a war starts....One could say that about conventional forces as well, if they are large enough and well equipped they do provide deterrence, hence why NATO is being pushed to increase it's conventional forces bigger is better in most cases...there is a few examples of nuclear armed countries being attack, Israel has several instances where it has been attacked but refrained form using its own nuclear forces...China and the US over in Korea...both nuclear countries Faught a long protracted war with each other...Having Nuclear arms has also emboldened some countries into doing what ever they want....take a look at Russia in Ukraine, it gives or highlights your side of the debate, Russia has threatened other nuclear armed countries of interfering with it's war in Ukraine militarily anyways....making that conflict last much longer than it needs to....And Russia is a huge example of Crazy in crazy town...one nation that would more than likely use WMD of provoked.... Once Nuclear weapons are used mankind will be fighting the next war with sticks and stones....if he exists at all...

YOU can't make a bomb from uranium you dig out of the ground here in Canada without heavily investing in it's infra structure.......it needs to be refined and enriched, both process we don't have in Canada if you want to have "weapons grade" uranium, the countries that do have these facilities have spent billions build them... and you have to build dozens of missiles or bombs to have the result you are trying to achieve....Israel has approx 90 bombs...and it does not enjoy the safety net your looking for... Below is just the cost for the enrichment facility, and note these were in US dollars in the late 40's...there is plenty more dollars to be dumped into a hole just to produce one bomb or missile....And for what reason....

Keep it how... though the use of force....you got to be kidding me....do you honestly think all the non native Albertans are going to squeeze themselves into that small portion of Alberta that is left, and be happy with that......or are they going to sit done with the feds and talk about new borders....and how much input are indigenous people going to have ? ....And what role does the US play in all of this.... And do you really think Quebec is going to sit around and watch, or are they going to leave as well....and once that is done How much influence is Ottawa going to have....do you think the US is going to sit and watch or start making offers to make provinces new states...Once the crack appears it will not take much for the dam to break... -
Brits and France will do as they are told by the US...they won't share that tech unless it is authorized by the US... I don't think it is because of my failure , it is because of reality for many reasons....we sleep next to the worlds largest super power, creating Nuclear weapons is very expensive, maintaining them is expensive, we as a nation have never been that concerned about anything military so why invest in Nukes when conventional armies will be used 99 .9 % of the time.... they will never be used "hopefully" and a weapon that is not used is a useless weapon, according to the Russians...and these weapons if used will be the end of the world...

Like i said before having nuclear reactors and producing weapons grade material are tow very different processes which we have not solved or had an interest in, because of the cost. Canada is still researching the means to launch satellites into space... Your entire thought process hinges on the US approval....what possible reason would we use to persuade them to allow us access to this tech, or even attempt this adventure........ and what if they say NO, what possible reason would the US agree...what advantage would it give them to have their neighbor have nuclear weapons. US would be shocked if we actually grew our conventional military and took our defensive agreements seriously, no where in anyu of those agreements does it say we need nukes.......i don't think they would be impressed at all of us having nukes...Israel has nukes and it does not have any more credibility than we do.... Look i agree with most of what you have said, but we are reaching for the stars, when we have not even learned to walk in regards to defending Canada, or being a reliable partner in our existing defensive agreements...

Key words in that statement is "Canada" has that obligation....not newly created country or the US...What do you think will happen if the US tells them no...what is Canada's next step...prepare for war !!! or sit back down and relocate all those indigenous people into Canada proper...And if one province goes do you actually think that's where it stops....and if other provinces follow suit, Canada will come apart at the seems....then the question is what or who is going to enforce those treaties.. Britain....maybe the UN....will anyone really care , it will be everyone for themselves... -

If it was easy it would have been done a long time ago, see Quebec....but it is not mission impossible Ya sure...how did the US first nations make out during their spat with the US government....and who is going to intercede again...the same ones that were going to defend Greenland or Canada if trump took them....at most you would have sanctions...and strong words at the UN if it has not collapsed by then....I'm sure there would be a lot of unhappy indigenous people, even protests, maybe a few wingnuts to take action, but it would be more about the taps being shut off, and having the same rights and privileges as everyone else... and having to look after themselves...than anything else... -
He has been very vocal about US trade and the tariffs , why do you think he is in the US now....trying to get the ball rolling , the same one the liberals seem to have lost control over...This trade thing is not goin g away....can't do the liberal thing and hide it under the rug, come this summer all of our trade is under threat if the US decides to pull out....then all our trade will be open to tariffs...Carney does not have this under control...or we would not have any tariffs.... So to be clear Joly is talking out her a$$, as thats her job...I'll be watching for any results and then to see if the liberals embrace movement on the file or if they dismiss it as conservative hyjinx.

Sure , but so is our economy, it is costing us jobs, and industry...so the question is can we afford the cost of waiting him out , or play his game , start to repair our industry, and create more jobs...Canadians still have not come to grips we depend on the US for everything...Yes we should diversify everything....but we will never free for US influence....we should be growing that relationship, not slagging them at every convivence...
-
We dont have any of that, which is my point, there is a huge difference between nuclear fuel rods in a power plant, and weapons grade material....one needs a uranium enrichment facility capable of enriching weapons grade material....we don't even have the tech to set that up, or even run it...Sure we have a few testing facilities which can tell you the radiation output of your material, but that is where it stops, we have no testing facility to test the detonation effects, or if the bomb will even work as advertised.... and again you assume that we can buy these plans on the open or black market....IF and only IF the rest of the nuclear club allows that transfer to happen...Do you think the US is going to say yes, what would be their motivation? and what would that cost us?...there is already enough nukes in the world to destroy the earth as we know it, many times over...If our conventional forces can not stop a invasion on Canadian soil and the US forces can not stop it....and we resort to using nukes it is game over....it will set of a snowball effect HENCE the whole MAD doctrine...we already have to many wingnuts with nukes...besides would we trust someone like Justin to have the nuclear football ....we have had a few Justin's in our time
-
You need to do some reading on the subject, creating a nuclear weapon is a lot more complex than you suggest, we do not have a enrichment facility, nor the tech to operate it, Yes we have nuclear reactors, and Uranium, i also have a bag of horse sh!t for my garden, does not mean i possess the tech or knowledge can grow anything...all the nuclear rods we have are not weapons grade...Nor do we make ICBM rockets here nor have the tech to build them.... And the biggest one is will those already in the Nuclear club allow us to to take this journey of yours...Look at Irans journey some how they think that owning a few nukes will place them on the throne in the region.... Not to mention the cost would be far more than we are spending right now on conventional military...If it was easy to do everyone would have them...

Here is another article on the F-35/ grippen issue....they address a lot more of the problem than i could...I know those Grippen cheerleaders are going to gloss over it and ignore the talking points... Richard Shimooka: A mixed F-35/Gripen fleet will fail us in every way
