  1. China was concerned that President Trump would attack them due to his percieved instability. To avoid any miscalculation, and a pre-emptive strike or accident, Milley did the responsible thing and re-assured his counterpart. The best way to prevent war is to establish trust.
  2. Traditional marriage is the union between a man and a woman's family fortune and status. The idea of marriage having anything to do with love is new.
  3. "Thou shalt not kill." That applies to Mr.Ellis and the King, as much to anyone else. For those who put money ahead of human life, just remember that it is more expensive to hang a person than to put them in custody for a life term.It takes at least ten years from initial conviction to the gallows. On top of that, Mr. Ellis does not work for free. His profession places his soul in jeapordy. In return, his compensation will be dear. The justice system in Canada is focused on rehabilitation, not punishment or vengeance. Vengence is the perview of God. We will all face the ultimate judgement. It is not for humans to usurp that role.
  4. Firstly, Singh's pension is not an issue. He will still be an MP and leader of the NDP after the next election. His seat is not in danger. But a more serious situation is that four of the G7 governments are in crisis. France, Germany, the USA and now Canada. It seems it is up to Italy, maybe Japan, and the UK to hold the fort.
  5. Polievre needs to pay attention to Trudeau's situation. The Dept. of Finance warned the PMO not to persue it's reckless spending anf the PMO refused to listen. Trudeau is now burnt toast on the way to the bin. The lesson for PP is don't make the mistake of ignoring the advice of the professionals in the public service, They are the men and women who have decades of experience and know what they are talking about. If Pierre doesn't get rid of his illusions that he knows better than the people who know what they are doing, he will follow Prime Minister Trudeau into defeat.
  6. Agreed. You've been watching CBC's At Issue, you naughty boy. 😉 I never thought of Harper as a golden boy. But Turner and Campbell fit the label. A golden boy is that person who is so great, the party can not resist them. I supported Charest in the campaign that put Campbell in. She believed in her own legend, she didn't see the need to campaign. A lot like Secretary Clinton. Carney does not have the ability to win. He would be an adequate PM but can't win a campaign. Too bland. He is basically the opposite of Poilievre, who couldn't lose the campaign if he tried but will struggle as PM. Actually, the CPC numbers have not shifted since last February. They have remained steady at 41% - 43%. That being said, the popular vote is irrelevant. It is the seat count that determines who will be appointed Prime Minister. The polls have put the CPC count ranging up and down between 206 and 227 since last February. If the election had taken place on Dec. 8, the CPC would have received the largest majority in Canadian federal political history. Only the Old Chief and Brian Mulroney have come close. Although, Prime Minister Diefenbaker's super majority is pretty impressive, considering there were fewer seats. Minister Freeland has likely resigned herself to never being Prime Minister. Like the Americans, Canadians seem reluctant to have a woman Prime Minister. Don't worry about Justin Trudeau's legacy. The funny thing is, when a hated Prime Minister leaves office, they are counted out, but Canadians are very forgiving. When he lost the leadership to Bob Stanfield, everyone but me turned their back on him. By the time the next leadership race came around, every candidate was his best friend. Brian Mulroney was attacked at every turn when he left office. At his funeral, no one had a negative word to say about him. 12 years from now, Justin Trudeau will be seen as having beena good Prime Minister. We will forget his ill concieved alliance with the Khalistanis.
  7. During the SNL affair, it became clear that Prime Minister Trudeau has a problem with women. With regard to Mark Carney, when ever a political party finds a "golden boy" they can't pass up, such as John Turner, Kim Campbell, Michael Ignatieff, or Mark Carney, they turn out to be a disappointment. You could put the Prime Minister into that category as well. His advantage is he is facing off against another golden boy. Parliament has voted no-confidence in Pierre Poilievre three times in the last few months. The voters want to vote Prime Minister Trudeau out but there is little enthusiasm in the electorate for Mr. Poilievre. The irony is the two men are remarkably similar. As I posted in another forum back when Justin Trudeau ran for the leadership of the Liberal Party, he is all flash and no bang. Mr. Poilievre is all talk but no substance. He is consummed with wanting to be Prime Minister. He will say anything to advance that goal. But I've seen no indication that he has any viable plans for how to deal with the important issues after his appointment.
  8. The answer to your question is it would be expensive. The CPC is already whining about the deficit. Plus, it would deadlock the crossborder trade with all the rails cars and trucks having to be inspected. Then there are the thousands of border patrol officers that need to be hired to patrol the vast stretches of border. The new Administration also wants us to hire an army of auditors to target money laundering.
  9. As always, I defer to your expertise. As you say, the arsenals have dropped considerably, but those tactical nuclear weapons will destroy the conventional forces. People seem to minimize the effect of a nuclear blast. All those expensive tanks and ships gone. Most will never fire a shot. The idea that a war between Russia, China and NATO is survivable is the most dangerous idea of all. Stalin, a homicidal psychopathic maniac had the control of a few nuclear weapons and they terrified him. When people stop being scared of them, we will have the most terrible war in history. If a war between NATO and Russia and China were to remain conventional (I don't believe that is possible, but for the sake of argument...) what would it be like? Imagine a slaughter house like Gaza or Ukraine (a nation with the same population as Canada) on a global scale. We have to do all we can to make WW3 too horrifying to contemplate. Another factor to contemplate is that, since 1945, the super powers have not fared well when they attacked a little nation. The Americans got kicked out of Viet Nam and Afganistan. Russia gor turfed out of Afganistan and have their hands caught in the wood chipper that is Ukraine. China thought it would be fun to invade Viet Nam. They limped home after only a couple of weeks.
  10. True, but in the summer of 1939, the Canadian Armed Forces had 4500 all ranks. A reserve unit in Cape Breton had a disarmed grenade the regiment used for practice. In the summer of 1945, we had one of the largest navies and airforces in the world. The armed forces had over one million personnel. The current emphasis is on ships, tanks and over priced combat aircraft. The 2% figure is attached to our NATO commitment. In other words, war with Russia. Let's look at this scenario. Russia and Ukraine settle, giving Russia Crimea, and the Russian occupied parts of Ukraine. Ukraine agrees to not join NATO. 24 months later a refurbished Russian Army sweeps through Ukraine and invaded Latvia. Article 5 is invoked and NATO conventional forces are engaged. The conventional combat lasts between 12 and 24 hours. Then an all out nuclear exchange occurs. This phase of the conflict lasts between 40 minutes and two hours. It will involve every nation with a nuclear capability, because neither the US or Russia want China to be the "survivor." In any war between Russia, NATO, and China, tanks, ships and combat aircraft will be irrelevant. Conventional arms are a waste of Canadian taxpayers' money. The only NATO forces that count are the French, British and American strategic nuclear forces. The requirement is that Putin and Xi know for certain that if they step on metre over the line, the nuclear forces of NATO will rain unholy hell on Russia and China, because the west would rather commit suicide than lose. The way to cause a nuclear war is to just give a hint we lack the resolve to use them. MAD is the best policy for peace in history. Just look at the extended peace between India and Pakistan. If Canada is to pull its weight in NATO, we need to pull out of the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty and put our money into nuclear weapons. And, the side benefit, they don't have to be there to deter just the Russians and Chinese.
  11. But, he wants to stop foreign oil dependency. Why does he want Canadian oil when he is putting a 25% tafiff on it? It won't be cheap any more.
  12. First, I apologise for not providing a link. If I recall incorrectly, I am sure CanFox and Nationalist will set me straight. Somebody recently told me that President Elect Trump will quickly make the US energy independent. I am curious though. If the US is about to be energy independent, why is President Elect Trump going to give the green light to the Keystone Exel pipeline?
  13. Is someone holding you here against your will? You are a 90 minute drive to the border.
  14. If you don't want to do the time, don't commit the crime. Mr. King was found guilty of committing mischief. If you offend the King, there are consequences.
  15. Oh what a surprise, the leftist doesn't believe in democracy as soon as his side loses You once again have mis-read my post. True, I do not believe in democracy, but American voters do and they expressed their choice without any doubt. President Trump is the choice of the voters who heard him say what he was going to do if elected and voted for that agenda. My view that his choices for cabinet are not what I would have done if I were POTUS is irrelevant. That is democracy. Many of my American friends would cringe at that because they say the US is a republic, not a democracy. My concern is the effect putting people who openly support Putin is folly. We are re-living the American politics of the late 1930's when so many Americans campaigned to support Hitler. Our allies in Ukraine are on the verge of a second holodomor. Our American friends are on the verge of demonstrating to the rest of the world that its word means nothing. If the new administration intends to welch on their guarantee Ukraine's sovereignty and borders, they should do the honourable thing and return the 2900 nuclear weapons Ukraine gave up in exchange for that guarantee.
  16. The patients have taken over the mental ward, but don't blame President Trump. 75.5 million people voted for him. That is a majority of the voters. Not a single one of them can claim they didn't know what he was going to do. Democracy is the political system that says the people should get the government they want...good and hard. (H. L. Menken)
  17. Ahhh..., only 1529 days until President Trump leaves office. Our American friends need to enjoy it while it lasts. In the mean time, Canada's Head of State will still be in office after that. 😉
  18. I'll choose "not." Have a good weekend. 🤠
  19. Mr. Hardner is many stories above both of us. I notice you haven't either. But don't worry, nobody reads anything you or I write on this forum and neither of us will have any influence on anyone else. This is all just an exersize in futility.
  20. Well that tells me all I need to know about the veracity of you contribution. 😘 I won't even ask if you have read the thousands of research papers on the greenhouse effect.
  21. I am probably less educated than you so I listen to people who know what they are talking about (Stephen Hawking for one.). All I have are degrees in history and psychology. A real education centres around math, physics, chemistry, biology and geography. So, I refer you to the most knowledgeable member of this forum. 22. Well said WestCanMan. President Trump won the Electoral College and the popular vote in a free and fair election. His election is the will of the voters and rule # 1 in politics is the voters are always right. As much as his supporters hate "democracy" (they say the USA is not a democracy. It is a republic.) it was a democratic exersize that gave him the keys to the Whitehouse once again.
  23. Some are against medically killing a fetus but are fine with throwing their future generations into a furnace. I know they believe they are doing the right thing for our generation, but the consequences of not making a sacrifice now to mitigate the greenhouse effect will condemn our future generations to a hell on Earth.
