  1. To ban a poster based on complaints is unreasonable. How many times have we heard of such and such was not able to speak at such and such university because a certain group either booed, or rushed the stage. Free speech is supposedly guaranteed, I think in Canada also. That right should be reflected in privately run internet forums. If posters are banned by other posters, then there is a certain amount of inbreeding that results.
  2. I just looked at his website and saw a bunch of rants by an ideologue that appears to be incapable of comprehending alternate point of views. I have seen many posters come and be banned. Sometimes reasonable posters get banned for 'posting while drunk' others get band because they cannot have a discussion without resorting to personal insults. What is on his website is his business. We were discussing his banning here. Granted I do not have that many posts, but during what little exposure I have had, I have not seen Greg post. I see that he is member number 2, has over 1500 posts, but I have not been in a thread where he has participated. I have never seen a poster banned either, while I have seen abusive language (idiot) used. Have you reviewed Craig Read's posts? Evidently, you did not experience him HERE. Even a rant is not basis to ban. In short, Craig Read is not welcome here, and probably would not return if offered to return. I am sorry it happened, though. BTW, Riverwind, are YOU Greg?
  3. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Six-Day_War "The Six-Day War (Hebrew: מלחמת ששת הימים, Milhemet Sheshet Ha‑Yamim; Arabic: حرب الأيام الستة, ħarb al‑ayam as‑sita), also known as the 1967 Arab-Israeli War, the Third Arab-Israeli War, Six Days' War, an‑Naksah (The Setback), or the June War, was fought between Israel and the Arab states of Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, and Syria. When Egypt expelled the United Nations Emergency Force from the Sinai Peninsula, increased its military activity near the border, and blockaded the Straits of Tiran to Israeli ships, Israel launched a pre-emptive attack on Egypt's airforce fearing an imminent attack by Egypt.[1] Jordan in turn attacked the Israeli cities of Jerusalem and Netanya.[2][3] At the war's end, Israel had gained control of the Gaza Strip, the Sinai Peninsula, the West Bank, and the Golan Heights. The results of the war affect the geopolitics of the region to this day." A naval blockade by definition is an act of war, I do believe. And besides, SOMEONE had to start hostilities. Better the offensive than defensive.
  4. Greg will delete entire threads if the language is particularily bad. You cannot make any assumptions based on the threads that are still around. Again, do YOU have personal experience with him? Your start date is after his end date. Greg is a mysterious guy. I have never seem him comment.
  5. People get banned from all sides of the spectrum for being offensive jerks who resort to insults instead of rational arguments. Look for posts by bigdude/mirror/maplesyrup. Also I am not sure who someone can be too opinionated on an Internet forum. Face it - we are all opinionated SOBs - if we weren't we would not be posting here. I have reviewed some of his posts. There are over forty pages of them, but he DID not resort to insults from what I saw. If someone does not like a persuasion, one can ignore their postings.
  6. Thanks very much for the heads up Canuck E Stan. The only problem is the mystery deepens. Craig Read's last post was on Jan 22 2004, 06:20 AM topic Degeneration Of Morals, Greed replaces Human Values, topic started by Krusty Kidd, not Craig Read. There was no abusive language, or any indication he was about to be banned. His last topic went three pages long, in which he only posted twice. This is like one of those movies where people turn up missing, but the community seems to be ok with it. It reminds me of the movie 'Wicker Man'.
  7. Funny, the same can be said for the Canadians, especially some of your past leaders.
  8. I am sorry, I do not want to be a pest, but I can not find any of his old posts. I keep getting an error message. Obviously, it doesn't matter since what is done is done. Riverwind, I guess you are an opinionated SOB who joined in 2005, and has over 3000 posts. You might not have experienced Craig Read since he might have been banned before you joined. I don't remember him, and I joined in 2004. I am just sorry he is gone since he seems to have been entertaining enough to have been one posters favorite, and one posters least favorite.
  9. I can not find any member with a post number of 1828, or name craig read. Black Dog is presently the third highest count poster. I do not know where you got your information from. I would love to read the posts from back then, but neither can I find him (craig read), nor if I did does there seem to be a way to filter the posts by a poster. I was merely commenting on the severely negative remark by Black Dog about a fellow who is GONE. Not only is he happy he is GONE, he seems to this day give the impression that his mere presence offends him, where it does not seem to offend Miss RB, and the other poster. Craig Read is a Canadian, on a Canadian forum. From what I can tell, his only offense was he was too conservative, and opinionated for a Canadian forum and Mr. Black Dog (a liberal).
  10. Only to a Statistician and you. Then again a Statistician would have better things to do than try to troll someone for a response or arguement about insignificant numbers. "try to troll someone for a response or arguement about insignificant numbers." I was not around in 2003, I joined in 2004, and I have not been a regular here. I think the response of Black Dog is the interesting fact because it is so out of line with his (time frame) peers. They all remember this fellow (Craig R.), from his web site he appears to be conservative, and probably would have been a prolific poster if allowed to stay. Black Dog I believe is left, this fellow right. There appears IMO to be a common trait for left posters, Canadian and American, to look down upon those right ("twerp"), as if they were superior. In fact, there is a tendency for the left to STOP free speech of those right (rushing the stage, heckling). Forget statistics, one and one equals two. As far as trolling for a response, I do not care if anyone responds.
  11. Fourth percapata, or fourth total?
  12. Freedom from market square bombings would be first, followed by relaxed restrictions. IMO It actually might be both a security response AND revenge. Again, chicken or the egg.
  13. This fellow not only offended you, he caused you harm. I guess you reported it to the police (moderators) for their protection (order of protection, expulsion). It is interesting Cameron's observation: "Craig Read, by far the person I miss the most from this forum. He was posting back when there was 250 members and this place was like Club54...a neat little group. Unfortunantly he had kind of a hot head and Greg had to let him go. I fought for him." He has 394 posts, Joined: 10-September 03, is From: Nova Scotia, and is Member No.: 269 RB was a fan of Craig Read. He has Posts: 776, Joined: 19-March 03 (before Black Dog), and is Member No.: 168 This compared to Black Dog, who has 5467 posts, Joined: 1-August 03, and has Member No.: 229 It is interesting that one has 5467 posts vs 394 posts, and 776. All joined in the same year, but have markedly different takes on Craig Read. Could it be that some likes to listen to others while others likes to do all the talking. Black Dog is seven times more opinionated than RB, and fourteen times more so than Cameron. Craig Read was probably just too much competition for Black Dog.
  14. I checked out the link. Perhaps he could be unbanned? Please.
  15. The use of the eh, and the abouuut, I somehow do not think of as an accent, but a geographic marker. Canadian English, to me seems similar to midwest American. The drawl of the South or Boston or New York, all are very distinct, and difficult to mimic well. But the eh and the abouut, anyone with a midwest American accent could fake that. To me, the eh seems like OK, which when over used, draws attention.
  16. Is there one conglomerate, or many? Where do they meet? From where are they based? Is there a name of their organization? Can you name any members?
  17. Which Con are you talking about, or are you just blowing wind?
  18. I bet, pound for pound, Canada is as good a polluter as the US is.
  19. First I had heard of it, but your use of the word 'collective punishment' puts some light on it. http://www.hrw.org/english/docs/2004/10/18/isrlpa9507.htm "According to international law, Israel as an occupying power may destroy civilian property only when “rendered absolutely necessary by military operations.” Destroying property to improve the occupying power’s general security or as a broad precaution against hypothetical threats is prohibited. “Israel’s conduct in southern Gaza stems from the assumption that every Palestinian is a suicide bomber and every home a base for attack,” said Kenneth Roth, executive director of Human Rights Watch. “This policy of mass home destruction leads to serious violations of international humanitarian law meant to protect civilians.”" Suicide bombing in market squares is a major issue. It is sponsored by the Palestinians and others. Tactics to prevent it are difficult, if not impossible. People have a RIGHT to live their lives free from terror. There comes the issue of which comes first, the chicken or the egg?
  20. For example? Jbg mentioned adherence to the rule of law. Ok, then some examples of breaking some law. What? jbg writes "We are a people who adhere strongly to the rule of law." You write "I wish Israel would start to adhere to the ethical philosophy of Judaism for a change." (obey the rule of law) I write "for example" You write "Jbg mentioned adherence to the rule of law." I write (give me) "some examples of breaking some law." (and thereby not adhering to their ethical philosophy) You write "What?" I would have thought by your quick response ("I wish Israel would start to adhere to the ethical philosophy of Judaism for a change.") that you had something in the back of your mind to backup the statement. Perhaps not.
  21. Huh??? I think I was talking about buzz words. 'Christian right' is a buzz word IMO by the left. It denotes political activity in churches. Republican supporting political activity. Blacks support Democrats in their churches but do not have a comparable negative buzz word, again IMO. It really has nothing to do with religion.
  22. The question was not have they died, it was SHOULD they die. South Korea is an economic powerhouse, well able to take on North Korea without US support. Taiwan is undefendable from China. Hong Kong was leased land by GB. The US did not surrender it, but it too would have been undefendable. These lands (SK and Taiwan) can pay for private armies. If they want to lease some of our soldiers, they can pay all expenses for those who want to volunteer (flying tigers), and I mean volunteer. The point is the US should not guarantee everyone else's freedom. It seems to get America no where.
  23. For example? Jbg mentioned adherence to the rule of law. Ok, then some examples of breaking some law.
