All I need to know, thanks for taking that one for the team.

Yes they do.

The problem with Vince Li is we don't think he might be dangerous, we know for a fact that he is. A doctor's opinion on how likely he is to reoffend is irrelevant, because we have already seen how severe the consequences are if he does. And if he does? Hey, he's not responsible for that, right?

What is the 'Canadian Dream' ?

No. Stephen Harper and John A are/were leaders of two different organizations. All of which is clearly documented in the links you posted. -

Exactly my point. You are not adding to this discussion. Did bush_cheney2004 hack your account or something? -

That was the Liberal-Conservative Party. -
Better yet, go to Cuba. Safer, less expensive, far less commercial.

Besides Vancouver, what Olympics have been played on the "small" ice? Calgary, Salt Lake, and lake Placid were definitely all full Olympic sized. I'm pretty sure Squaw Valley was too. Besides that, until 1996, Canada always sent its "D" team to the Olympics. It was basically the same group that would play in the Spengler Cup now -- people who were not able to land a spot on any of the top tier leagues. Many of the european teams sent their very best, playing fast and loose with the definition of "professional".

Conservative party of Canada? Yes it was. -
To really get a feeling for how bad Air Canada is, you have to compare them with other airlines on specifics. The best summation of all of their service aptitude can be seen (IMO) in how they deal with problems beyond their control. Compare these two stories of flights I've had in recent years: 1) Air Canada: Heavy fog forced the plane to redirect to another city. We were dropped off, and left there. No other plane coming to take us to our final destination, no getting on the next flight, no other transport offered, no vouchers, nothing. They even refused to let us use the phone to call someone. 2) Sunwing: Heavy fog delayed the incoming plane to pick us up. By the time they were able to land, the flight crew had been in the air too long and were not permitted to fly until the next day. The airline found hotel rooms for all of us, bussed us to the hotel, paid for all food and drink, picked us up in the morning and brought us back to the airport, and we were on the next flight. Both cases the problem was the same (bad weather, not their fault). But there's a radically different attitude when it comes to doing the best they can for their customers. Is it any wonder I try to fly Sunwing whenever possible, while absolutely refusing to give another dime to Air Canada ever again?

Splitting Incomes, Splitting Conservtaives or Splitting Hairs
Bryan replied to Big Guy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
All election promises are vote buying ploys. People opposed to income splitting either don't understand it, or are just lying to shoot it down because their guy isn't the one proposing it. It helps anyone in any income bracket where there might be a disparity in income levels between partners. -
Any number in Fahrenheit has literally no meaning to most Canadians. 32C? That's hot! 90F? it's just a number, I have no idea if that's very hot or not without looking it up.

Why do you care? Instead of demanding that people converse the way YOU want them to, why not just let them have a conversation? People can decide for themselves if they do or do not want to participate.- 1,890 replies

What improvements would you like to see in this discussion forum?
Bryan replied to Greg's topic in Support and Questions
If anything, it's the opposite. Penalizing thread drift is a sure fire way to drive new people out. Conversations go where they go, and people should be able to respond to the discussion where it is without fear of a moderator acting like third grade hall monitor and giving "warning points". It's the most childish thing I've seen in a long time, and it's a big reason why I don't bother to participate here nearly as much as I used to.- 1,890 replies

Polls have been done. 45% of Canadians polled said they'd like to see the CBC sold off: http://www.citynews.ca/2014/01/30/canadians-in-favour-of-privatizing-crown-corporations-poll/ Which is pretty much in line with what I hear from my friends, relatives, co-workers, team-mates, other parents at my kids' school and sports, etc. Almost half of them -- even ones whose political views skew considerably left -- don't have much use for the CBC anymore. Hockey is literally the only uniting force that keeps people from calling for it to be shutdown outright. Once that programming is gone, I guarantee the number of people calling for it to be sold off will increase substantially. Funding has not really been cut anyway. A few redundancies have been eliminated, while other grants have increased. The total dollar figure that the CBC receives now is more than they got under Martin. Even when adjusted for inflation, the drop is minor compared to the cutting that needs to be done. They're using taxpayers money to try to outbid private broadcasters. If the private sector is already not only happy to provide that programming, but also willing to pony up substantial money to do it, that is not something the public sector should be trying to compete with. Especially since they are getting both advertising dollars AND over a $billion/yr in government grants, all while paying their employees almost 40% more than the private sector. That rant said, I still see value in some CBC programming. There are a few radio shows that I enjoy. I only listen to them in iTunes though, never over the air. That's where CBC's eventual fate should probably lie: sell the TV operations outright, shutdown the radio stations, and concentrate on making podcasts that fill niches NOT being covered by the private broadcasters.

Not in mine it isn't. There is a growing movement to either sell it or at least cut its funding. If it wasn't for hockey, it would have no reason to exist. And it's losing that hockey soon.

Go back and look at the history of all the men's hockey medalists. There's no pattern as to who wins on what size ice. Besides, have you ever played on Olympic sized ice? One of the rinks in my league has the "big ice", and there is nowhere near as much difference as many in the media try to make it seem. It takes less than 5 minutes to get used to it.
-
Canada was first place in the medal table in Vancouver. But that wouldn't have meant a damn thing if we didn't win the men's hockey gold. Winning hockey is a much bigger deal than even winning a single other medal, let alone winning the medal table.

If half the planet jumps off a bridge, does that mean you have to?

Referring to increases as cuts is standard left-wing practice on both sides of the border.

Cutting The Cord -- How to leave cable companies?
Bryan replied to August1991's topic in Arts and Culture
I've had similar experiences. I've never tried a VPN, but I travel to the US quite frequently. When I try to access Netflix on my laptop or iPad, it automatically gives me the US version. Nearly half of the content I have saved in "My List" is not available in the US. I know it's "common knowledge" that US Neflix has more content, but I've yet to see any evidence of them having much in the way of quality content that I actually want to watch. -
2015 is what they've been projecting for quite some time.

Major Canadian citizenship reform bill coming
Bryan replied to Moonlight Graham's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It's worded that we will have the ability to revoke citizenship, not that it automatically happens.
