quote; ' Bring in an accurate and easily administrated test and all my opposition will vanish" -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Do you really believe that the test for alcohol makes us safer? That is more about fines (money maker) for the government. I think less drinking and driving has been accomplished by the cost of drinking in pubs increased costs versus drinking at home. Local pubs where one can walk home has also helped. If preventing people from driving while drunk was a priority; more cops would be sitting in pub parking lots stopping anyone from driving away while intoxicated. But there is no money in that. cynical; you bet

It will not make an big difference; legal or not. Just like alcohol or drugs; it will depend on the individual person's discretion and not to drive while impaired. Anyone seen driving without due care whether they are drunk, high on prescription drugs or marijuana. or even sober; should be charged. Whether small quantities are decriminalized or legalized for medical use will actually make little difference.

Is it time to abolish the provinces?
caesar replied to maplesyrup's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
I would like to see a stronger federal government. I am tired of our flip flop governments in BC. They keep changing; and everything changes. Hard to budget when you don't know what you will have to be forking out money for next year. It is expensive to taxpayers when we don't have a stable government. They keep getting out of whatever the other party involved us in. We need more control of provincial politicians. Campbell had a four year mandate but has locked us into drastic changes for the next 75 years or more in a lot of cases. We need more referendums before any drastic changes can be made. They say what the public wants to hear when seeking election; then do whatever they want while in power. I am very unhappy with the way this government is shipping jobs out of the province particulary the Ferries building contract and our medical data and other government data being contemplated to be sent to a USA company for processing. I do not think governments should be allowed to send any government records or our citizen's personal information to any foreign country; including the USA. -
Well Kimmy, the consevatives would probably have won the election if they had a more rational leader such as Orchard or even Joe Clark. Leaders who are proud of Canada and are willing to fight for our country. Harper appears to want to be a Bush puppy dog. Harper would have sold us out to the USA. Most Canadians do not believe in the " might is right" nonsense. We believe in honest trade and fair play with every country. We are not willing to sell our soul to the devil for the Yankee dollar

I prefer using natural medications whenever possible. I even prefer to eat the right foods instead of loading up on man made vitamins, mineral, etc. When something like marijuan can bring relief without the serious side effects that manufactured drugs come with; I think we should be allowed to select the natural medication. There are stronger pain medications but they generally leave you completely knocked out or befuzzle the mind. Plus it would be much cheaper than these manufactured drugs. Sorry about your wife. Cartman. I hope you and your children are doing well. It is very sad when someone that young has to suffer with cancer. Sad for you and the kids to lose a wife and mother at such a young age.

Harper wanted Canadians troops in Iraq
caesar replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
How about we supported the Iraqi people and the Coalition forces. The needless invasion killed and maimed many innocent Iraqi civillians. Coalition forces personnel lost their lives or are now living with serious life time iijuries for Bush's lies. It is one thing for them to risk their lives and limbs to defend their country; quite another when it is for nothing. There was no threat posed by Iraq. To be against the Iraqi invasion does not mean that we wupport Saddam. There were thousands of other s involved. If you were a parent would you want your child losing his life of limbs because of Bush's rush to invade without just cause. -

quote: While they were getting their act together, what was he to do? Whip them? Whip the kids? Wring his hands and go 'Oh me, oh my?' No, he showedf remarkable steel and did what any good president wourld, carry on with the task at hand until it was time to act, then he allowed his people to do their jobs. I would expect that of every senior statesman." -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Perhaps, that is what YOU expect; Most of us would expect him to say: "Sorry kids, I must go and take care of some serious business. Perhaps I can come back another day." Then go and get properly briefed and informed of the situation. Act like a president not a mindless dummy.

quote: "Not a Bush Bot but can probably add some light. See, Bush has aides and people all over himk thatdo their individual jobs. He has pilots waiting here and there, bodyguards, advisors, communications guys, the guy that carrries the 'foot ball', the guy that has his schedule, the guys that decide where he is to go in case this goes wrong and whatever else" --------------------------------------------------------------------------You make him sound like someone who still needs his mommy. Poor guy can't think for himself. A question that was asked; perhaps, you have the answer. How does Bush talk when Cheney is drinking water?? Does he have someone to wipe his little bum?

Is Canada too dependant on the US?
caesar replied to CanadianPatriot's topic in Canada / United States Relations
We need more trading partners. Trade should never depend on one country too strongly. The USA is our closest neighbour and we have many intertwined industries but we really need more diversified trade. -
quote; quote: "While each doctor's situation is unique, the package amounts to an average increase of $50,000 per doctor per year That was after their last raise; (Average doctor) that was a 23% increase ( 20% of 250,000 equals 50,000) I don't think there would be very many earning that 87,000 figure. As we are now paying any continuing medical education; why would any remain at that level unless they are inept? I do realize my information is gross wages ; still after his business expenses; they should average much more than 85,700.
-
quote; Hugo Doctors get paid less than auto workers on an hourly basis. Do auto workers go to medical school (or the equivalent) for 7 years? ___________________________________________ Where do you come up with that little gem. From what I know; the average doctor in BC now earns 300 thousand a year; his malpractice insurance is paid for by the taxpayers; any furthur medical education is paid for by taxpayers; they have maternity or adoption benefits paid for by the taxpayers. Those auto workers must be making really big wages. However, professional athletes do make much more; at least the good ones do.

QUOTE: "We take care of our homeless better than anyone. We don't tax anyone who makes under 30,000." ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Yes we heard how Klien looked after Alberta's homeless a few years back. Give them one way tickets to BC. Besides it is too cold to be homeless in Alberta. As for not taxing anyone who makes under 30,000; I don't believe that. However, if it is true; start taxing them moderately and you can easily fund your own health care.

That is why they have accountants and office staff. Doctors would do little paper work.

Is Canada too dependant on the US?
caesar replied to CanadianPatriot's topic in Canada / United States Relations
We do NOT need to be dependant on the USA. They only have money that we need. They need or want our resources. Cash can come from any other country. It need not be Asia or middle eastern countries. However, China is a growing market for trade. There are many other countries in South American and there is Mexico. We can trade with the USA when it is viable and fair but we do need to look for more diverse trading partners. When Bush is gone (soon I hope) perhaps normal trading relations can resume with the USA. We should still seek other trading partners and never concentrate our trade relations too concentrated with one other country. -
I can sum up Alberta whiners philosophy this way (as my daddy used to say): "what's yours is mine and what's mine is my own." self centered and selfish.

A doctor, without lab workers and nurses to provide the needed help is fairly useless. We have to fund the WHOLE system not just the doctors. No one in a failing industry deserves an average 50 thousand a year raise. That is like these large companies declaring bankruptcy being found to have paid multimillion dollar "bonuses" to all their executives while the company was going down in flames; leaving investors holding the empty pot. Primary care in the hospital comes from nurses and nurses aides not doctors. Doctors are not some great gods; they make many serious mistakes. A good pharmacist is a good idea to warn you when they discover mis prescribing. My son's previous doctor kept prescribing him penicillin when he knew on his files that my son was extremely allergic to such medication. My husband's eye specialist prescribed eye drops that were not correct for his eye condition and which caused him serious side affects and could have killed him. He didn't think I shouuld be angry; because he had be doing a "great job on his eyes" for years. An eye problem, I will add that was caused by another careless specialist. We need other well trained health personnel to catch mistakes made by doctors and to provide necessary tests and ongoing care.

The Provincial governments are holding closed meetings on health care; The federal government is having their meeting with the provinces televised for the public. Who would you trust???
-
quote: "While each doctor's situation is unique, the package amounts to an average increase of $50,000 per doctor per year. Funding for doctors now amounts to $602 per British Columbian per year - the highest per capita funding, by far, in Canada. The next closest is Ontario at $497. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Other health care workers get decreases; Why should a doctor get an average 50thousand a year increase????
-
You get a life troll. We want some money left for health care not just overpaid doctors. Stop trolling; I know your game. What good are a bunch of overpaid doctors if we can't afford operations or tests or any real health care.
-
spoken like a teenager that you are. Children cost money; lots of it. Don't have more children than you can comfortably support and educate, please.

[Quote) : BC, one out of every ten dollars taxpayers pay to their provincial government goes to pay doctor's salaries alone. Not "health care" in general, just doctor's salaries. Interestingly, doctors pay taxes too, so one out of ten dollars they pay in taxes goes back to their own bank account. Neat " - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- No wonder there is no money for healthcare. In BC and Alberta; we pay for their malpractice insurance and any furthur medical education costs. Now all they want to do is sit in their offices writing prescription for Americans they never see?????
-
from newer reports the British company was quietly disqualified before the final bid. The American firm was the only one left. The disqualifications are for reasons that no one will say????? May get interesting yet.

ne ither is marijuana just a recreational drug for many. Those that use it for medicinal purposes generally do not use that much nor do they get high enough to really make them dangerous. Like with any other legal drug; it is a matter or whether you use it or abuse it. I am in the early stages of glaucoma; I prefer to choose my own medications. My husband had serious side effects from eye drops generally used for glaucoma. these eyedrops can be very dangerous for someone with circulation problems. Which he has. He was supposed to use these drops for a short time but the specialist never told him and marked them repeat. I even questioned the pharmacist and was assured that they were what the specialist ordered. He is recieving long time treatment that requires 2 different eye drop probably forever; due to an eye condition caused by another eye specialist (cataracts). My own glaucoma specialist that I was seeing would tell me nothing. So, I prefer to be my own doctor; I have very little confidence in doctors. So allow me the availability of a natural medication with fewer side effects. At this time; I require no medication, but I would like to freedom to choose a medication that will be less harmful than many prescription drugs.
