  1. The big reasons why the provinces do not have money for healthcare is because if they cry that cry they hope to get more from the federal government. However, they do not think they should account for how it is spent. Our provincial government seems to have lots of money for multimillion dollar improvement for a ski hill; an extravagant transportation system to the airport. If they fund healthcare; they would have nothing to cry about.
  2. You mean they admire and want the American dollar. America is not the most popular nation in the world; for good reason at this time. I do not think most intelligent people cannot distinquish between nice friendly individual Americans and the G Bush administration.
  3. All hockey players are not uneducated and dumb. Remem ber Montreals great goalie; Ken Dryden. He is now a Minister in Paul Martin's new cabinet. He is well educated. Most are certainly not illiterate. However, I do think many are over paid. I do believe they earn more than a school teacher. Hockey is a rough game and leaves many with serious life long injuries and expensive denture/teeth replacements. Teachers are not that important. I did well in school; but I learned whatever I needed to know by scanning my test books. All teachers ever did was to mark my papers. I do realize not all people learn by my preferred methods.
  4. Yeah right. They did collarborate. The same group that bought the ships did offer much more earlier. There was just a lot of game playing and a desire to sell them cheaply to make the NDP look foolish. They only needed engine refits to make them usable. You believe everything the Campbell government/ Campbell tell you. Like he only had 2 drinks. Or that suddenly when he loses his drivers license; he suddenly needs round the clock police protection that would drive him everywhere.
  5. Many of those wearing the Canadian maple leaf over in Europe/ Asia are Americans. Many colleges were telling their students travelling overseas that they would be safer by pretending to be Canadian. Americans are ususally disliked more for their countries' pushy policies than theit own. However, the ugly American; loud and pushy is not completely a myth. They have been fed how great they and their country is; and many do believe it. I can usually spot an American and distinquish from a Canadian 9 times out of 10; I am right.
  6. Now the company is working on a deal to sell the Pacificats to a buyer who would turn them into floating casinos on the East coast. Shipyard workers union president George McPherson says the ships were sold off by the government for tens of millions of dollars less than what they are worth. "They are world-class vessels. There's no question about that. They were an asset that the province owned," he says. "And in my mind, they were given away for nothing." The union had raised the same concerns at the time of the sale last March –accusing the B.C.Liberals of selling the catamaran ferrries for political reasons.
  7. The Problem is they did not even put our BC shipyards on the bidding list. The ferries are now semi private. We pay the costs and someone else takes the profit; all pretty vague and shady. I believe it is being run by the Washington group. This group is connected to Kevin Washington who is owner or part owner of the company that built the Fast Cats and the company that bought the fast cats back at a garage sale. Our promise of an open government is gone; everything is done quietly with no notice until it is too late to fight. Campbell knows he will be gone come next election. After this year, our government cannot go into deficit. I think he is spending all our future income so that the next government will have nothing to spend; just pay the bill (If they are lucky) for all Campbell has approved already. He is spending enormous sums on anything fancy for the olympics; leaving nothing for anything else including children's ministries and health care.
  8. Why all the concern about the Americans; I don't know why Bush is so concerned. Many American states have already decriminalized marijuana already.
  9. The European ones are not cheaper and return no money to BC. The shipyards contributed 22 million and 2 thousand jobs. I am sure the shipyards do not employ that many broom pushers at 20 bucks and hour. If it does a good percentage of that wage would pay taxes and be spent in BC; so it really isn't as much as you would think. Costs for anything spent locally cannot be compared dollar for dollar to having it built elsewhere. Building here returns much of that money to taxes and businesses locally. Our economy.
  10. Well Albertans seem to think that they are the WEST. BC is the west. The rest are just western. Cabinet posts are not appointed equally from provinces; especially when not that many were elected in the particular province. Cabinet ministers are appointed by the best man for the job within Canada and within the ruling party. Do you have any candidates in the western provinces that would have been better choices for the positions? That is the only question that would be relevant. Otherwise, the "west" is just acting like spoilt children by complaining.
  11. Yes, I certainly can. Those ferries were cheaper than what they will be paying for these replacements. The original ones were only the wrong type of engines and only needed to exchange engines. It had little to do with the quality of the ships. It was just a lot of political propaganda as far as I am concerned.
  12. [quote); "Sadly enough we are,I wonder what the history books will say about Canada's effort to help find them.Oh,that's right,we believed saddam, not our allies,so we didn't need to hunt for them or the documents that said they had been destroyed." ----------------------------------------------------------------------- We believed the weapons inspectors and were satisfied to have them continue the job. "Our Allies" did not want to allow the weapons inspectors to continue; They just wanted to invade Iraq" "Our Allies" were wrong. Most Americans and their congress and courts now realize that Bush was wrong and mislead them on weak evidence from a suspect sourc.
  13. We do not have to say anything quietly. Canadians are too meek and humble as is particularly in regard to the USA. Bush has shown nothing but disdain for Canada since taking office. Why should we be quiet when he is pulling stunts that will endanger us as well as the USA. Yes, Americans are a mix of good and bad as are we. Many are our friends and relatives. When the USA returns to an administration that shows respect to Canada and Canadians; perhaps then we can return that respect.
  14. Just what is wrong with a banker running the agricultural program. We don't need him to plant crops; just to get trade barriers opened and deal with American protectionism while flooding our market with their subsidized produce. A banker may be just what is needed to deal with the situation. Look for more trading partners. I am not too thrilled with Paul Martin myself but since we have voted them in; let's see what they do before we criticize. Try a little optimism instead of so much pessimism. The Liberals will have to listen to the people and the other parties ideas if they want to stay in office.
  15. [quote) "Bush Says: 'I Want to Be the Peace President " ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Looks like Bush is finally getting the message: He liked to pronounce himself as a War President; now that people are getting wise to the mistakes he made in warring on Iraq; He now declares he wants to be Peace President. Yeah right
  16. you have to vote in good Liberal candidates if you want more representation in cabinet.
  17. [quote); " Whats wrong with prvate delivery of public health care? Do you care where you get your check up as long you don't pay for it. I don't. " But you do pay for it; and we are paying for the public health care system already. Why would we want to pay twice????
  18. nswer; Iraq is a large country; there was a "POSSIBILITY" that some would exist. A possibility is not legal or moral grounds to invade a country. The Iraqis were not "refusing" to provide proof of the destruction of any WMD; they were cooperating with the weapons inspectors. No 2 ways about it; the weapons inspectors should have been allowed to complete the job until and unless there WAS real serious resistance from Iraq. We will have problems in years to come for the failure to concentrate and finish the real war on terrorism with the REAL terrorists. Those in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Bush's failure to condemn Pakistan and its scientist that sold nuclear technologie and parts to rogue nations. That may come back to haunt us. he al Qaeda and bin Laden are still out there waiting to attack. Iraq was NOT part of that terroristic organization. Saddam was just a mouthy taunt. the
  19. Get it guys for once and for all. I don't care who may say that there may have been, could have been, or should have been. There Were No Weapons of mass destruction to be found in Iraq. It is simple to prove you have something; not as easy to prove that you do not have something. The weapons inspectors were finding no indications of WMD so Bush had to put an end to their work as the proof might have been almost complete had they been allowed to continue. There was no just cause to invade Iraq. Former American intelligence agents warned Bush that he was using warped intelligence. Bush chose to believe what he wanted to hear. If you chose to believe Bush; then you are fools , too.
  20. Many American companies are in Canada. Perhaps we should stop fopreign ownership in Canada so they don't pull down our statistics. Canada is still a fairly honest country to do business in; far from the doom and gloom insinuated. We may have dropped a notch but we are still one of the most reliable.
  21. personally, I don't give a darn what P Martin thinks as long as he keeps us out of that mess. He is good at business and finances; no one claimed he was a foreign affairs experts. Hopefully, he will leave that to the experts. Many biased news sources like to take a snippet of a speech out of context and try to make something of it. Much ado about nothing; like as not
  22. The torture of prisoners is widespread and similar in Cuba and Iraq. You really believe that it is the work of individuals. geeesh. They are nothing but scapegoats.
