  1. Quote: " Of all the reasons stated by the United States for going to war with Iraq, be they WMD, removing tryany, humanitarian reasons, putting stability in a ass backwards region, etc etc..........I've yet to heard what is the problem with any of these above reasons...... I'll go even further, let's say that this war was about securing Iraq oil, on top of the other reasons.......Whats wrong with protecting every facet of ones being? Oil plays a large part of the US economy, whats wrong with protecting it? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- You are not really serious are you???? The oil belongs to Iraq not the USA. Now you are losing any credibility that you had. I guess, you believe that the USA has a right to invade Canada and take our oil too if they think they may need it? Geeesh,
  2. By the way Stoker. Why do you think the Iraqi people are revolting against the USA in large numbers. They do want to be free; free of USA interference and control.
  3. They did not have legal or moral justification. If you didn't know that at the time; you should know it now. geeesh Why did they avoid the UN resolution after all their bribery and blackmail attempts; bacause they knew they would lose; not by a single veto but by a majority. As for the dark skin comment; let's not attempt the usual right wing tactic and turn EVERY comment into "racist" it is BS and you know it.
  4. Quote: "As for purchasing more "made in Canada products", are you going to be the first inline to purchase a pair of Nike runners made in Ontario by a union worker for a larger price tag that reflects the "new" cost in paying wages to the North American workers?" -------------------------------------------------------------------------- No, that is an over rated American Company. I will buy made in Canada goods. I am tired of having to constantly return poorly made items from brand name companies. I recently tried to purchase a vacuum cleaner; partially assembled (seems we have to make everything ourselves these days) : The base of the handle (pre assembled) was put on backwards; to fix it I would have to take it apart and perhaps void my warranty. I returned it to the store; all the stock in the shop had the same problem. That is what you face when you have underpaid child labour.
  5. Quote: "Who, at no finacial cost to us, and at a great cost to themselves, are building a complex network of missiles to defend North America, which we are a very large part of? And if God forbid, we we're attacked by terrorists, who would be right there to help us out?" -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Who goes around meddling where they shouldn't and supporting countries they shouldn't with a veto.* Who attracts these terrorist attacks to North America with their bullying, and economic blackmail??? By blindly supporting Israel even when that country is in the wrong. * The UN votes should be non political and not protect a country when it obviously has crossed the lines The USA vetoed resolutions against Saddam for using poison gas and Israel for anything and everything.
  6. quote: "Why can't we just ban seperatism and all separtist parties? It would be the smart thing. " ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Smart, maybe but not very democratic. Let's stop trying to buy their love; that's like the parent with only visiting rights; buying them anything they want. It doesn't really work; they just lose respect and consider them a sucker. Same goes for our relationship with Quebec.
  7. No they don't. Different times. People did want to give the Liberals a message but did not want a leader as right winged as Harper. We did not want a Canada that would just do whatever the USA says. We had to return the Liberals to protect our sovereignty. Joe Clark may be dull but he is Canadian. Harper is an American wannabe. At this time; most Canadians want to keep our integrity and keep our nation free of the irrational policies of the present USA government. We do not appreciate the bullying and blackmail type of "diplomatic" relations coming from the present USA government. Harper wants to keep the USA pleased with Canada at any cost; Most Canadians do not want to pay that price.
  8. Quote I meant that in a wartime situation US citizens would be more likely to perceive criticism of George Bush and/or government policy as a criticism of the soldiers risking their lives ------------------------------------------------------------------------- But it was not a war; none was declared It is not a criticism of those soldiers who are risking their lives It is a criticism of risking those lives for an unjust cause. It is one thing to ask these young people to risk their lives and futures defending one's country; It is reprehensible to ask these same young people to take those risks over the questionable reasons for this debacle in Iraq. Let's not forget the many who come home mentally and physically challenged for the rest of their lives. Perhaps, even another Timothy McVeigh.
  9. They already have incentives; lower gas usage. Writing off expenses still cuts into their profits and WE get to pay increased costs. It is always passed onto the consumer. Why concentrate on the vehicle. Many people with smaller cars choose them due to their high mileage per litre of gas. I may drive a less fuel efficicent vehicle but only use it for necessary times. I walk to the store; take a bus to work. It is time we looked towards overall mileage; that goes for car insurance rates, too. I pay more for the larger car but am seldom on the road. Someone with a small car maybe constantly on the road.
  10. The reasons for the lower birth rates are by choices of women AND men. A child should have two involved parents. Many times the man is too involved in HIS career to have time to help raise the child,
  11. Electing judges is counter productive since that would just effectively make them politicians who interpret the law. This would solve nothing.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Definitely, we need judges who are well trained in law not someone who wins popularity contests. The general public is not the best judge of a judges qualifications. We must leave that to the law experts. If you don't like an interpretation of a law; elect politicians who are able to change that law; if you can.
  12. Live from New York, it's Saturday Night - featuring Bill Clinton, NBC hopes August 2, 2004 - 2:48 NEW YORK (AP) - Former president Bill Clinton could be a host of Saturday Night Live this season. At least, that's what the folks at NBC are hoping. TV Guide Online quotes anonymous sources saying that Clinton has been offered the gig if he wants it. A decision is expected this week. Meanwhile, Clinton is scheduled to appear Tuesday on the Late Show With David Letterman, a week after he addressed the Democratic national convention in Boston. He will also be soldiering for his memoir, My Life, in Toronto on Thursday. Since its release on June 22, the book has sold over 1.5 million copies. Clinton last appeared on Letterman's show on Sept. 11, 2002, the first anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks. Comments
  13. QUOTE The fact of the mater is that the United States is very much aware of it's place in the world and knows very well that it can use "economic blackmail" when it needs to.........nothing Canada (or the majority of nations) can do to change that. ========================================= There is something we can and MUST do; don't give in to blackmail. It may mean some hard times for a while; but if we do give in; it never stops; it just gets worse. That is what I admired about Trudeau the most. He did not give in to the FLQ threats despite the fact that his own family would have been their favorite target. Think of what Canada would have been like today if he had not stood up to them. George Bush will not be president forever. The USA does need and want our raw resources. They will negotiate fairly if we stand firm. Irregardless; Canada must seek more diverse trading partners for trade. Not to replace the USA but to stabilize our economy (trade issues) throughout bad times. Bush came into power with a chip on his shoulder due to Chretien Jr. (Canada's ambassador to the USA) foolishly stating that Canada would prefer Gore. Bush has been throwing his childish temper tantrum since then.
  14. Quote: Kimmy: "so, if you're accusing Klein of drunk driving, I think you've got him confused with the premier of the province to the left of us. " -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Two peas in a pod; both have had drinking problems. Both right wing politicians that have the support of the Can West media monopolizing of news. In BC, with no official opposition; this seriously prevents us from being informed of the goverrnments intentions and action until it is too late.
  15. Joe Clark may have been a lack lustre Prime Minister but I do believe he is an honest proud Canadian. Mulroney was an arrogant jerk who sold us out to the USA. Harper appears to be headed in that direction, too. Kim Campbell didn't have a chance. She got the job only because no one else was willing to face the coming defeat at the polls that was really Mulroney's. I would like to see another strong charismic and strong nationalist leader like Trudeau.
  16. The United States, like every other country does need legal justification before attacking another country. Otherwise mayhem exists. How does the USA know that they are ready or want a democracy? Stability is something to hope for. I would like a little more stability and accountability here. Democracy is not a magic pill. It does not cure all problems. It should be year round; not once every four years on election day.
  17. Stupidity? Thats not a reason, it's a personal trait. You said it hehe None of these justified invading Iraq. None of them justified risking the lives and limbs of young coalition forces. Democracy will only be achieved when the people are ready for it. If they do decide they want a democracy; it would not be patterned on a N A style democracy. Many still want one strong leader. Democracy in Canada is hard enough to hold together with the various Provinces pouting and wanting to opt out. Ours are family fights compared to the different factions in Iraq and their more violent background. Anyhow, too hot to think straight. Gonna chill out. have a fun evening
  18. quote; stoker; So I ask you, what did Bush go to war for? What made Bush risk being reelected this Fall? Why did Bush use "lies, fraudulent, forged or irrelevant" facts to go to War? What do you think his reason was for?----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What difference does it make what I think. I do not have any reason to make excuses for him but here you go; take your choice stupidity? oil? Strategic military control? Who knows the reasons of a tyrant?
  19. Well, fortunately; Americans are being a little more realistic and are now seeing the folly of the Iraq fiasco. Hopefully, come December; Bush will be just a bad memory. Harper is not prime minister; so all is well that end well.
  20. I don't need a reason; I didn't support an invasion. Big deal; the results were the same re Nuclear facilities. Which of the Americans changing reasons do you believe?
  21. Willy go troll elsewhere; I have no interest in talking to you.
  22. Stoker; just for you: "FOXNews.com - US & World - Report: Major Iraqi Nuclear Plants ... ... Report: Major Iraqi Nuclear Plants Looted. Monday, May 05, 2003. BACKGROUND. NEAR KUT, Iraq — A major radioactive waste site in Iraq has been looted and US "
  23. Stoker" quote: you making things up again? Iraq doesn't or didn't have nuclear power plants...... " -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I guess you didn't listen to any news during the invasion eh. Iraq does have nuclear power plants which were looted after the Americans invaded. Some Iraqis bought pails to carry food in that came from the plants and suffered radiation poisoning. I suppose, you didn't know thay had museums, with priceless antiques; that were looted either.
  24. Quote: Stoker: "PLease tell what the war was for then...........------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Well Stoker; since Iraq did not have any WMD or ties to Al qaeda; It is not my responsibility to justify the "INVASION of Iraq" Perhaps you have a valid excuse????
