udawg; re; BSE I do believe that the Federal government did provide funding for BSE. Unfortunately, in Alberta that money seemed to go to the big meat packing plants (many American owned) and not to the farmers. Our fishing industry and logging industries in BC never get subsidized by the Federal government. Only, farmers with cattle that were destroyed by government sources without any signs of BSE should be compansated. Small farmers who could not afford crop insurance should have been offered long term loans with no interest. Why did the industry not stop this dubious practice of feeding animal parts to herbivores long ago. This industry should be fighting back; not the federal government. The USA is being unreasonable. Why would you support Harper who would sell us out to that country. Until the USA resumes fair trading practices; we should look elsewhere for trading partners.

Al-Jazeera is not the terrorist supporting network that you think. I understand that it is a fairly moderate broadcast company. If we do get to watch it; it will be closely scrutinized. After the propaganda that we listened to from the USA and many of our own stations; it is time that we were able to hear other views. ANYONE WHO WISHES DOES NOT HAVE TO TUNE IN. oops didn't mean to yell. But those of us who now question what we are told and even more important; what we are not told; would like the option of hearing another point of view. Sometimes it is not what we are told; it is what we are not told that influences us. I don't think it should be anyones prime source of middle east news; just another viewpoint to allow us to question our own sources. There are usually two sides (at least) to every story; this just will give us an opportunity to listen to another view. After the nonsense we were fed regarding Iraq; I think it is past time we got some balance.

You have it right there. In the future , we may all be relying on the northern territories to supply all our resources; oil and diamonds. We should all remember that and treat them well. It would be much easier for them to separate and join the USA/Alaska. Or just form their own country. We should use our resources wisely and ensure future generations will have some.

There are no other Arab view stations on the air; so what is wrong with adding al jazeera. I understand, it is pretty unbiased. We have more (600 ????) sports channels than educational because that is what most want to watch. They work all day and want some entertainment. As you say; it stands on its own. Educational channels attract less audience and therefore sink unless they get outside funding. You seem a little confused. You have your preference; I have mine but the majority likes something else. I would like more information / educational or nature shows but we are not the majority.

The invasion of Iraq is a main point for getting Bush out of office. He more than any other knew where his bs intelligence was coming from. I think any other leader would have made a serious attempt to win people and countries to his point of view. Bush used "proofs" that were quickly revealed to be fraudulent, forged, out of date and taken from a students paper. Bush tried for support by using strong armed tactics and bribery. He made no attempt at diplomacy. He has since turned a blind eye to Pakistan's forgiveness of its top scientist selling nuclear technologies and parts to rogue nations. In fact, Pakistan is now allowed to purchase newer weapon technologies from the USA as a favoured ally??? Ghadafi went from public enemy to ally overnight????? A leopard don't change its spots that easily.

There are lots of people who over use the Health care system for minor ailments. I think some accountability on that could be worked into the system. People who run to the emergency needlessly. The Provincial government have little interest in having our Health Care run too smoothly. It is one way they have of trying to pry more cash from the federal governments. Our BC government charged more for premiums; paid less for senior's prescriptions; closed hospitals; laid off union hospital workers for cheaper contract workers. Not to mention higher taxes on cigarettes to pay for the costs to the health system. Where did the money go; Waiting lists have grown; private clinics are here. Doctors got a huge raise; management got a huge raise; nurses got raises but less than what their contract called for. Every hospital seems to have a lottery. Where has the money gone??? I will bet there will be fancy state of the art clinics well staffed for the Olympics participants.

While they are working? Or after we fire them. They have really good pensions for even short time service; plus a pretty good severance package when we kick them out.

Just what do you mean by anti semetic or anti American. Seems that some here believe that any honest criticism or the USA government action or Israel governments actions are "anti" Those who blindly support these governments and ANY actions they take; automatically try to silence others with the label of Anti semetic or anti American. If that makes me anti semetic or anti American; so be it. I feel free to criticize my own government; I do believe we should feel free to criticize other governments that have an affect on our country; or whose actions are bringing instability into the world.
