We are Canadian. They are provinces not states. OK

There is absolutely no excuse for him to ship our records and jobs to a foreign country. If safety is so important to the Provincial government; why do skytrains not have "cow catchers" People who jump or fall on the tracks are ground into bits. Why are there no attendents or turnstiles collecting fares; that leads to cheating and a hangout for the bums and a quick getaway for shoplifters. There should be a railing so people and children cannot accidently fall onto the tracks; one that comes down as the train comes in the station. Safety is certainly not the first issue. The yellow bumpy strip marking the edge of the platforms were not installed until a blind man fell on the tracks and survived but with extreme and expensive injuries that they will probably have to pay for.

Arrests made in Cecelia Zhang case

plants remarks were dumb and not even his jurisdiction; that type of change could only be done federally. However, I do not think it will have any affect on justice being done. The one juror is a costly aggravation; I get a little fed up with worrying about protecting criminals rights; let someone speak up for the victims. I do not like this government but I sure see no need to call for Plant's head. Campbell's I would give you on a silver platter. -
We can have a much cheaper line without tunnelling under Cambie street where costs could go out of control. This line is being put in now for the Olympics. The cost of the alternative route is much cheaper. Who wants to ride an undergound system where sabotage or bad air accidents are prone. We have a beautiful city. Tourists (WHICH IS WHAT WE WANT TO ATTRACT) want to ride on an above ground system like the present system and see the city not a continuous boring tunnel; very claustrophobic. How many people who shop at oakridge would go by any kind of transit??? not too many. Health care necessities that the whole province and its citizens need not some stupid sports extravaganza costing billions. If I hate Campbell; I do have good cause; starting with his embarassing drunk driving charge in Hawaii and never stopping. Now he wants to send our medical records to the USA for processing. Anywhere but BC eh

What we need is a properly funcioning health care system. schools properly funded, and children at risk protected. We do not need to spend billions of dollars on a 2 week extravaganza 6 years from now. Not if we cannot fund our essentials services. Watch it on tv; which is what most will have to do anyhow. Traffic jams, prices

Ironically, it IS usually the male who quickly demands that the girl get an abortion. Perhaps if more were more supporting there would be less pressure on the girl to choose an abortion. Put their money where their mouths are; keep you know what where it belongs. The poor girl can't say; "How do I know it's mine"

No doubt. The bully or ignore other trade issues. We should opt out of free trade and turn off the oil. I will start building my bomb shelter.

People die on the SEA to Sky every year mainly due to drinking and driving; speeding and hot dogging. If people drive responsibly; there would not be that many accidents. There are through highways with more pressing needs to reduce dangerous areas.

The "RAV" line has not been in the works for 10 years; it just got approved after 3 votes in succession. Democracy in action; If at first you don't get the vote you want; vote, vote, vote again. geesh. There is a much cheaper option that would not require a lot of unpredicatable underground tunnelling with who knows what cost over runs. There is a track already along Arbutus, that does not come as near to homes to disrupt; this could have easily been negotiated while they did the sneaky sale of BC Rail against all promises. It would come much closer to UBC that could ensure ridership. Infrastructure all in the lower mainland that the whole province pays for???? A expensive improved highway to a ski hill that will be paid for by the whole province; Local people will be priced out of skiing there. Where is that promised Kelowna bridge (right away; say GC) What are they getting for all the gas taxes. After last years fires that threatened the town; a bottle neck at the bridge could have been deadly. Still they dawdle.

[quote): Perhaps if parental education was given in those early formative years 'avoidance', abstention, would be more clearly understood by the impassioned couple. " -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lets blame the parents and schools; as usual. How many teenagers really listen to their parents. It is a time of life when hormones rage, common sense may lag; they have a need to declare independence but do not always have the confidence to do it on their own. Lots of bravado but not always real confidence; therefore they do tend to cling to peers usually one of the opposite sex.

Well in a pregnancy; have you seen any man with his body all bloated and going through the pain of childbirth. If we did there would be many fewer needs for abortion.

Arrests made in Cecelia Zhang case
caesar replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
He didn't take him out to the nearest tree and hang him. One man's comment does not make any big difference. Every newspaper and other media sources will be flashing his face and stating that he is a prime suspect. In fact, the innocent until proven guilty in the media is usually and after thought and often missing. Let's not make a mountain out of a molehill. -

I don't blame the police chief one iota. If he had to see the body of that poor little murdered child and has good reason to believe that this young man is guilty. It would only require a change of venue. Even that is not really needed in my books. The prosecutor will face the jury with the same or stronger comments. What surprises me is how readily the media can refer to OJ as a wife killer, etc after he was found not guilty. As we all believe that he was guilty; no one raises an objection. -
Women/ young girls do not always CHOOSE to become pregnant. Sometimes birth control fails or the young girl is just not too wise. I would not like to see those with these accidental pregnancies to become desperate and go to backstreet abortionists as they did in my day. Nor do I think they should be required to go through with a pregnancy that will produce a child with serious health problems. I would have no problem with encouraging and supporting them through a pregnancy to allow the child to be put up for adoption. Encouraged not pressured!

Willy; that is nonsense; the RAV line is being built specifially for the Olympics that is the reason for the rush and the fancier system (If it is to be ready by 2010) We do not need to build a better highway to a ski hill in Whistler nor fancy sports arenas with taxpayer money. Take the bid book and stuff it; that is not showing half the costs. People do not need fancy arenas etc to promote sports for health; Walk, We need Proper health care, schools and children services not this risky bs.

but My son has already been paying for season tickets and he takes his momma quite often. It is ridiculous price for a hockey game. I think we used to pay about $12 per seat not that long ago. Now if you want a good seat you need to be long term season ticket holders. We certainly wouldn't keep paying these prices if we don't have any of the top players. The construction industry will take a hit in wages, too; if Campbell gets his way. He would like to get rid of all unions. I, do have two minds about unions. Sometimes they are needed to enable a worker to get a fair wage. Sometimes too much organized union is involved rather than the workers. I do like free market that allows good workers to get better pay and advancements than those who just drift along. I think that I would like to see the actual workers more in charge of the unions than professional union people. Perhaps they could put a little less emphasis on seniority and allow a little more consideration given to a workers skills and work ethics. The NHL and how their union works is a bit confusing; but I am starting to get an idea of how it works.

I agree with you but Molson's will still be the first name. I hope they continue making Canadian beer. As long as they keep sending my hubby's pension cheque: I won't worry about it too much. I do hope they keep up the fun commercials.

I am certainly NOT jealous of American. At this time PITY is the word. They are now sitting ducks for another terrorist attack because of the actions of their government. I buy Canadian whenever I can; why would I want their produce when ours is better and fresher than stuff shipped and picked too early so it can be shipped without rotting or bruising. Oranges are about the only American fruit I will buy. As for our government officials being insulting; the insults and threats and orders came from the USA government officials first. Canada did not even get a mention from Bush for our support and help after 9/11.

Are you anti USA or anti Bush?

Oh we have much that they would suffer for if stopped. Power, oil, and natural gas. However thanks to Mulroney, seemingly, we cannot legally refuse to sell to them even in defense of our environment. We are even being sued for refusing to sell water????? I believe to do anything legally; we must opt out of dree trade. I would be in favour of that option.\ It seems our government and large companies like to buy from other countries that use cheaper labour and do not support our local workers. The BC government is attempting to destroy unions; lower the age of working children to 14 (any job a parent okays) with no government protection. They seem intent to lower our working standards and pay to that of third world countries. -
Playful;; I did not suggest that hockey players were worth that kind of money; just probably worth more than a teacher. Some teachers are great and worth more than their salaries. Many more just do the minimum required and are not worth diddly squat. Actors and singers are very overpaid; at least the most successful; which are often not the best. I believe oil field workers and construction workers are usually well compensated for their limited skill jobs. Hopefully they work for companies that observe all safety measures.I didn't miss your sarcasm about my job (how did you know) but I am from a different generation; a mother who opted to raise children instead of work. I am in my 60s. I do regret not opting for a career but I am quite happy with the results from raising my kids.
