LCBO for sale says Liberals.
ironstone replied to Mr.Canada's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Does anyone know what the high end of the LCBO salary range is?I mean the true figure when you factor in the usual extremely generous government benefits like lot's of sick leave and the golden pension plan.Anything run by governments is usually done at much higher cost than need be. The private sector could probably do it better. -
How convenient. What a coincidence. Face it,most of you guys are pissed at this latest prorogue of Parliament because it's being done by Conservatives. Was there ever this much of an uproar in the past when the Liberals were doing it?In the whole history of Parliament, which party prorogued more often?I don't know the answer, but if I were to take an educated guess....the Liberals.

It's been mentioned on here before, the example of "Honest Jean"Chretien doing it to delay the Adscam report until Martin took over. I won't thank you in advance because in all likelyhood, you either will duck the question or ignore it alltogether. It's preposterous to claim the Liberals never prorogued Parliament for their own benefit.

Harper to prorogue parliament AGAIN?

Corrrect me if I'm wrong, but I have read that the Liberals did it four times within a four year period in the Chretien/Martin era. Heck, this guy that wrote into the Ottawa Citizen claims that Pierre Elloit Trudeau did it no less than ELEVEN TIMES!http://www.ottawacitizen.com/opinion/Trudeau+more/2414687/story.html I think it's fair to say that all Prime Ministers, past and present, prorogued Parliament for tactical reasons to benefit either themselves(Chretien)and/or their government. Why is it unacceptable for a Conservative to do it when there is little or no outcry when the Liberals have done it(and they have apparently done it a lot more than the Conservatives? Please plainly spell it out why proroguing Parliament was never undemocratic when the Liberals did it?
-
Didn't Chretien prorogue Parliament right near the end of his reign? That postponed the release of the embarrassing report on the theft of many millions of taxpayer dollars by those with strong ties to the Liberal Party. It was timed so the report would be released when Martin took over. Isn't that clearly abuse of the system?

LCBO for sale says Liberals.

When this issue was raised years ago during the Mike Harris era,I remember reading something about what happened in Alberta when liquor sales were privatized. This article basically stated that profits(taxes going to the gov't) went up,and the selection of booze to consumers was expanded.Sounds good to me. -
Harper to prorogue parliament AGAIN?

It would be nice if anyone who writes a poll question will do it in a more balanced way.I won't vote on this poll question as it is written.I hope Dr.Greenthumb doesn't work for any of the major polling firms. But this is a good example of how poll results can be manipulated by the question. -
2011 Afghanistan and more LIES
ironstone replied to William Ashley's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
This William Ashley sure is a real brave guy, hurling insults while while enjoying the anonymity of the internet. It's really pathetic, knowing full well you wouldn't have the backbone to do it to face to face.Try showing some civility to those who have the audacity of not sharing your opinions. -

It wasn't the "Cons" that sent them there in the first place.Bet you didn't know that. -
Harper to prorogue parliament AGAIN?
ironstone replied to DrGreenthumb's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Is it a fair to suggest that university intellectuals, more often than not, tend to be drawn rather sharply to the left for some reason?I think of examples of like a William Ayers in the U.S.,this is a thoroughly despicable man,one of the founders of a home grown terrorist group, and yet he is apparently held in very high esteem by left leaning students.I think of how often anyone who is percieved to be right wing is effectively banned from speaking at most univerities. There is no anti-intellectualism backlash in this country to be honest. There is a very real threat to free speech however, and it comes mainly from the so called "intellectuals". -
Harper to prorogue parliament AGAIN?

Don't hold your breath waiting for a response from Dr.Greenthumb on this one.Apparently proroguing parliament is not acceptable if Conservatives do it,but perfectly fine if the Libs do it. -
That's probably true that some at Gitmo are not actual terrorists and they should be released.Isn't it also true that some who were released are once again engaging in terrorist activities?

Ummm...didn't this topic begin as Avatar? I look forward to seeing Avatar eventually.Give me a good plot,CGI or not.

Khadr should make us ashamed to be Canadian
ironstone replied to Leafless's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Remember what JFK said many years ago?"Ask not what your country can do for you,but what you can do for your country?" In my mind,I put most of the blame for Omar Khadr with his family. Most decent minded Canadians do not share their vile views on Western society,Canada bends over backwards perhaps more than any other country in the world for newcomers.Name one positive thing the Khadr family contributes to this country? -
Totally off topic here but I wanted to sneek in best wishes for everyone, left, right, wherever you stand, in the new year.Hopefully good things are ahead in 2010 for the world.Be safe tonight!

If the Israelis do bomb "SCHOOLS" as you say,it's because Hamas has no qualms about launching ROCKETS from these and similar places with civilians.I am curious as to how you think the Israelis should take out these ROCKET sites.

Harper to prorogue parliament AGAIN?
ironstone replied to DrGreenthumb's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Often, when people are confronted with something that reflects poorly on their particular viewpoint, they choose to ignore "the inconvenient truth". I'll write it again: Apparently,Trudeau prorogued parliament 4 times in 4 years. For those keeping score,Trudeau 4,Harper 2. Why no comment from the left? -
Harper to prorogue parliament AGAIN?
ironstone replied to DrGreenthumb's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
This morning I am listening to the CFRA morning show with Mark Sutcliffe. Some lady calls in and complains about Harper proroguing gov't for a second time. From the replies in this forum there are clearly many who don't don't like this one bit, claiming Harper is running and hiding. On this radio show,Sutcliffe pointed out to this lady that the darling of the Canadian left, one Pierre Elliot Trudeau, prorogued parliament FOUR TIMES IN FOUR YEARS! Any comment? Please tell why it was just peachy when Trudeau did it,but it's an affront to democracy when Harper does it?Do as I say,not as I do right? -
No government is perfect, and this Kharzai fellow is most certainly a sleazy, corrupt SOB.It seems to be inherent to the Afghan way.Sometimes it's like we must choose the lesser of two evils. As for the "women hating" stuff,it will be right here in Canada eventually when we get Sharia law. What is very disturbing is that they can bring that hateful way of life over to our country, think of the Khadr family or the Toronto 18.It's growing fast because there are many in the West who don't want to take a stand against it.

Has anyone come up with a solution as to what Canada should do with Taliban prisoners yet?If they are turned over to the Afghans and subject to beatings, then do you want them to come to Canada. They would certainly be treated well if conditions in Canadian prisons are any indication.Did you know there is torture in Canadian prisons too? There must be since prisoners can sue for such flagrant human rights violations as melted ice cream,or ill fitting prison garb.If Taliban members end up in Canada,at least they will be fiercely protected by our Human Rights Commissions. Seriously, why so much concern for these Taliban monsters and none for their numerous victims, past and present?

Passengers help foil attack on Detroit-bound plane

One of the biggest obstacles in the way of the West's fight against terrorism is political correctness, the core of left wing ideology. Too bad for this Nigerian guy,he threw away a bright future for himself. -
Licia Corbella on Quebec hypocrisy
ironstone replied to ironstone's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I'll take that as a no,that you can't provide any evidence of her alleged factual errors. -
Mulroney certainly had his reputation tarnished even more than it had been with the admission he took bags of cash from the sleazy Shreiber. This amount of money pales in comparison with the millions that are still not accounted for with the Quebec sponsorship program.Liberals will always have a hate-on for him because he handed them their heads during two elections and in the Liberal mind this is unforgivable.I think they should be somewhat more grateful to him for the cash cows that he left them with, the GST and free trade.Don't forget that Liberals are held to a much lower standard than Conservatives too.

Licia Corbella on Quebec hypocrisy
ironstone replied to ironstone's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Would that be the same Ontario with the dirty coal fired generating plants? Can you deny the fact that an enormous amount of money flows out of Alberta and ends up in the province(yeah I said PROVINCE!)of Quebec? One must not confuse Quebec bashing with cold, hard facts.
