Does someone have something on Palin?
ironstone replied to punked's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Why is it so unusual for her to leave before her time as governor was up?If she wants more time to prepare for what lies ahead than more power to her.I seem to recall a person that became a Senator then promptly started to campaign for the Presidency. He devoted most of his time to furthering his career and not his constituents. Was it ethical for him and others like him to still collect a paycheck for not doing his job? By the way, things worked out for this guy,he ended up in the White House. -
2009-2010 Quebec and Manitoba will receive the most from equalization payments in the 2009-2010 year.[3] In the 2009-2010 year, the following provinces will receive equalization payments: [4] Quebec Manitoba New Brunswick Nova Scotia Ontario Prince Edward Island [edit] Equalization payments in Canada – 2007-08 ($ millions) NL PE NS NB QC MB SK BC Total Equalization 477 294 1,465 1,477 7,160 1,826 226 - 12,925 Per capita $938 $2,118 $1,564 $1,968 $931 $1,543 $230 $0 It may be a little easier to balance the books for the have-not provinces.Gosh,do you see Manitoba in there?

So do you want the NDP as the federal government too?I never paid too much attention to the NDP until they came to power in Ontario.I don't think there is a single person that lived through that era that would not admit that Bob Rae(now LIBERAL!) and his merry band of Socialists were a complete and utter disaster. They managed to piss off everyone, right to left,no easy task.NDP?Thank you but no.

I think they found out that she is..........competant and honest! She is clearly much more intelligent than the liberal media makes her out to be.From the left wing perspective, this is unforgivable. -
Supreme Court Overturns Sotomayor
ironstone replied to bush_cheney2004's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
It's possible that racism in this case is a red herring. It's a sad fact of life that qualifications for a job are not the sole criteria for hiring or not hiring the person in question.Whether we admit it or not,who you know trumps actual qualifications for these plum jobs.Friends and relatives often have the inside track for the best jobs and this is true for much of the job market.I hate it,but it's a fact of life.I recall a guy I know who was pretty worthless(lazy, missed time, police record etc)as an employee but he spoke french and his neighbor who was with Public Works Canada gave him a copy of the french exam and boom,he is a public servant.Where does merit fit in? -

Can you be more specific? What exactly made the test discriminatory? -
Public Sector Employees (MANAGEMENT AND BARGAINING UNIT)
ironstone replied to madmax's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Fact is,public servants are very well paid considering the actual amount of work they do.Why should they be immune from the pain those of us in the private sector are feeling?PSAC and all of the other numerous gov't unions need a reality check. We in the private sector pretty much carry the load of our massive, bloated gov't.I always remember my fathers first day in plant engineering at NRC.He told me they were supposed to start at 8am.When 10am came around,he asked "shouldn't we have started some time ago?",another piped up,"hey, what's your hurry?" Ahhh, the gov't work ethic.Did I mention it's also very easy to steal from the gov't?I say cut away... -
On the other side, are there a lot of Palestinian organizations that openly oppose violence against Israelis? Is there a single one?Is it possible for any Palestinian to want peace without violence and not face death from his/her own people?
-
I think you just blasted that one out of the park!

Can you explain exactly what is racist in the statement by jbq?And by the way, there have not been "multiple senseless attacks" by Israel against the Palestinians, you have it backwards.

Alberta deficit projection jumps 42.6%
ironstone replied to Visionseeker's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
I shudder to think what Alberta might be like now if the Liberals or NDP had been in power for the last 40 years or so.Without question, they would be in much worse shape. -
Obama receving lib-left accolades.
ironstone replied to Pliny's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
I think he's just biding his time.He should be favoured to win a second term regardless of how well the country is doing four years from now.If or when he starts his second term,I think that's when he'll show his true colours. He'll likely start pushing hard for big labour and gay marriage, and other issues that are important to the left. -
I would like to set the record straight. The government, and NOT the people of Ontario, get's all of the profits to squander as they see fit. Privatization seems to have worked in Alberta from what I read, but the unions would never allow it in Ontario. What the LCBO employees do is not rocket science, but they are paid quite well and get great benefits that private sector employees have to foot the bill for.

You do have a point I must admit. It's scary to imagine what North Korea would be like if China didn't keep them "sort of under control".Could they be any worse than they are now?

Seems to me like Obama supporters feel that ANY criticism of him in any way, shape or form is completely unacceptable and you call them fascist. What exactly is it about Obama that should make him exempt from any criticism?

"Israel’s Premier Promises Major Peace Plan"o ...
ironstone replied to tango's topic in The Rest of the World
I am guilty of not being specific enough.I refer of course to Hamas,Hezbollah etc and not those Palestinians who genuinely desire peace. -

NEWS FLASH!PALESTINIANS OFFER PEACE PLAN! (We will exterminate all Israelis and wipe Jews off the face of the earth.Then....we offer peace) -
Liberal's give more money to thier friends in Ontario
ironstone replied to punked's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Too bad you can't or won't hold the Liberals to the same standards that you apply to the Conservatives.Dalton has certainly had his fair share of scandals in his time. Can you name more than one? -

Harper faces heat over Canada Day cash
ironstone replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I can be considered a Conservative supporter by most standards. But I do not support everything they do and stand for. They deserve criticism for handing over most of the Canada Day money to one province,in which most of the residents have little loyalty to Canada. Back when the Liberals were in power, did they also give the lion's share to Quebec? -
Your comment are rather foolish to say the least. The truth is,in Canada,ALL parties are pretty left wing. They differ mainly in the area of spending, some always want more, some want to spend within our means. By all means let unelected, mainly left leaning judges have the final say on all matters. And the Liberals and NDP let the Conservatives make the unpopular, but correct decisions and at the end of the day,the Liberals reap the rewards.Remember the GST?How about free trade?Drastically raising immigration levels is another example.

Tories move to eliminate faint-hope clause
ironstone replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I seem to remember a column by Michael Harris a few years ago in which he stated something like 70% of inmates who applied for the faint hope clause got parole.Sounds more like the "sure thing clause". -

ironstone replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Sounds like you really miss the days of "Honest Jean" Chretien. "I never said I would get rid of the GST,I never said that!"(The mother of all lies?) "A few million dollars may have been stolen after the referendum."(A capacity for understatement?) "I never called the head of the BDC!"(Can you say LIAR?) Yeah those were the days. -

I seem to recall the Libs and NDP screaming for massive stimulus spending, just like their hero Obama is doing. Now we have people complaining about a deficit.Let me get this straight,is a deficit acceptable depending on whether or not the leader is a charismatic left winger?Did anyone from the left complain about deficits under former Socialist Prime Minister Trudeau?
