Greece to hold referendum on debt deal
maple_leafs182 replied to olp1fan's topic in The Rest of the World
Oh, Greece is too big too fail, why didn't you say so. I really don't see bailing out Greece as some sort of solution. It will be short term gain at a long term loss. Instead Greece should default, they should let all the bad debt in the system be liquidated. Yes there will be pain but their will be long term gain, Greece will finally be able to get back to growth, the debt is killing their economy. I wanna get the deal right, they want to recapitalize the banks with one trillion Euros? That is a lot of money. Since banks usually loan out at a 9:1 ration, then potentially there can be ten trillion Euros created as a result of this deal, but I am sure a lot of that money will go towards buying Greek bonds. This deal will just create a lot of inflation, it will hurt the Greek and European people later on as they see their cost of living increase. -
Greece to hold referendum on debt deal
maple_leafs182 replied to olp1fan's topic in The Rest of the World
You can just write off that debt, a collapse is what needs to happen. I don't blame the banks as much as I blame the government. In my opinion the government creates the moral hazard. In many countries governments insure bank accounts which takes the risk off of the people who put their money in banks, that is to say the people don't care what kind of loans or risks their banks take because their money is safe. I think the biggest problem is we have governments too involved in the economy, the best thing we can do is get governments out of the economy and allow the free market to correct itself. -
Greece to hold referendum on debt deal
maple_leafs182 replied to olp1fan's topic in The Rest of the World
We should do that in Canada. We need to tell the BoC and its banking cartel to go ____ themselves. The Vatican is calling for a world Central Bank to be ran by the UN... -
Greece to hold referendum on debt deal

Saying yes is the stupidest thing they can do. They should let everything fail, they need to let all the bad debt liquidate. Replacing old debt with new debt won't solve any problems. -
Romney, The Inevitable Nominee
maple_leafs182 replied to Michael Hardner's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Sadly, Romney will most likely be the candidate. However, I think Ron Paul will do better then most people think. With his success in the primary and caucus', I predict Ron Paul will team up with judge Andrew Napolitano as his running mate and together they will run as independents. -
All countries trade oil in dollars. If countries stopped trading in dollars that would have a huge impact not only on America but the global economy. The demand for the dollar along with its value would fall greatly. You would see prices rise which would hurt business, the consumers and the greater economy.
-
Ya, I want default
-
They weren't against selling it on the international market, I don't think they cared who bought their oil, selling on the international market is economic freedom. However, forcing a nation to use dollars isn't economic freedom. Having their countries stop selling oil for dollars would not of been hard to accomplish, they would just have to stop selling their oil for dollars. Its not like people weren't buying their oil when they were in power. Even if people decided to boycott their oil, that would drive the price of their oil down and I can't see countries like China or Russia passing up on a deal to by cheaper oil.

Really, that is the most moronic conspiracy theory you ever heard, have you ever listened to david ike...I don't even know how that is a conspiracy theory, it was no secret the both Sadam and Gaddafi wanted to ditch the dollar. Why wouldn't they want to switch to the dinar, it would of gave them economic freedom from the west.
-
So I just looked into the claim that Gaddafi had 200 billion dollars...that is propaganda. A lot of what is claimed to be his was owned by national institutions. I'm working right now and am using my black berry so I can't post a source but they were claiming assets that the Libyan central bank owned, their nationalized oil company owned along with other assets other national institutions owned where Gaddafi's as oppose to being the owned by the people of Libya.
-
Source Wooh, the economy is saved, we will all be rich in no time. So the people who bought Greek debt loose 50% of their investment while the banks get nearly free money...got to love fiat currencies, the banks best friend. I thought the reason people were protesting around the world is because we keep giving big business special privileges.

EDIT:What is your guys thought on this economic model http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jj5lQLHuZuA

K, I don't want to talk about cars and how to make them safer, I really don't care about that right now and didn't create this topic to talk about that. Most of the topics and conversations on this forum I see as being useless, they do not address any fundamental problems of society. Most of the talking points are derived from the MSM and within those topics it is usually just the left and right blaming each other. I really don't want to talk about stuff anymore. Can we try something different in this topic and try to derive some technical solutions to solve world hunger, global warming, pollution in our water and air, the depletion of our resources. Any ideas?

I would say it is on the workers to better their working conditions. As for the environment, I think property rights can solve a lot of those problems. You can't pollute others water or air, that being said, you may be right, there may need to be some restrictions to help the environment. If we had machines like that then we could easily make abundance and we wouldn't need money to buy stuff. But cars are designed unsafe. It isn't too bad if you get hit from the front or back, but if you get hit on the side that can be very deadly. Cars should be more circular so they can better take an impact from the side.

I consider myself to be in favour of a free market, I think the more freedom we have the more prosperous we become. That is why I advocate getting rid of the Bank of Canada. The question I got about the free market is how do we continuously advance our technology and keep jobs. A lot of the technology we develop replaces human labour with machines or computers. So won't there come a point where advancing our technology hurts the economy, well hurts the people because there will be fewer and fewer jobs. Another thing, don't you guys think we should develop a new transportation system. Using plains, buses, trucks, cars, etc...they are not very efficient. Our transportation system has created a dependency on fossil fuels, we have gotten to a point where wars break out over the dominance of these fossil fuels. Don't you think we should develop some sort of transportation system that generates its power from the resources around it, be it solar, wind, geothermal or whatever.

exactly.
-
But we aren't, both the economy and the people are heavily regulated.
-
And those are the reasons we bombed Libya and over threw the government. I really don't think those were the reasons we ousted him. It was most likely because he wanted to sell oil for gold. In all my life I have never heard anyone talk about Libya, so I know it wasn't the people of Canada rising up and calling for justice and change in Libya, it was a small elite who wanted change. That is empty rhetoric, we aren't free in Canada.
-
Honestly, I really do not know what kind of man Qaddafi was. I don't think anyone on this site really does, we are all just taking other peoples words for it. Governments and MSM are too good at spinning things in their favour so I really don't trust them. The thing I don't understand is when people on this site say he was a brutal dictator murderer...what about America and the rest of NATO, why do we turn a blind eye to them when they go around the world bombing people, why is it okay for them to do that and not others. What if Qaddafi told his people what he did was humanitarian, does that make it okay, is that all we have to say now to justify using bombs. This whole claim that this was all done for democracy is clearly bullshit, I don't know how people fall for that or how that is good enough justification to bomb hospitals in Libya.

Qaddafi's fall sure wasn't worth it, I feel the same about Saddam. I hate these people telling me how I should feel. Random fact, Qaddafi wasn't even really his name, that was his tribes name.

I do think they should be tried and convicted of murder, however it is up to the people of Libya to do that. I don't think we should be attacking those countries, we should get out of those countries and Canada should get out of NATO.
