What do they mean by "Decisive Action?"
independent replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...y/politics/home Article about food safety has been largely ignored for years but has gone from bad to worse under HARPER. Looks like Harper may not have had a Decisive Action. -
It is very true that Pierre Trudeau was not fiscally responsible but what has that got to do with Justin? He should be judged on his own merits. If he is any where near the leader his dad was he will be of great value to the Liberals.

Harper's plagiarized 2003 Iraq speech
independent replied to myata's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Not funny. I have a son in the Military and sending young people to war is not a joke. -
http://www.democraticspace.com/canada2008/ Conservatives are projected to have 15 seats short of a majority. I understand that undecided has risen. and still a long way to go. the NDP seem buoyed by their popular vote but that does not translate into seats. Green has 8.9% of the vote and that translates as 0 seats.

Layton calls for suspension of campaigns
independent replied to BC_chick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You are quite correct Kengs333. His percentage of the popular vote is very close to the Liberals and he is trying to sell himself as the opposition party. Popular vote does not get you in. I do not think he will come close to getting enoungh seats to be the opposition. But hey you can not fault the guy for trying. -
Legalize Marijuana and Prostitution
independent replied to PoliticalCitizen's topic in Political Philosophy
Good post but the if they stopped it all together it would go underground and the criminals would make the money off of it instead of the government. I think slowly restricting it like they have was the best way to go. I find it rather odd but for some reason men have cut back and women seem to be smoking more. I have not figured that one out. -
Stephane Dion, A new tax you will all LOVE to pay
independent replied to TCCK's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I do agree that the sun has a lot to with Climate change but we are creating a lot of man made environmental problems as well(There is a lot of research on that as well) We have to take responsibily for the parts we can control. -
What you charge for your services would depend on what the market can stand. I am sure you have already tried to fill your wallet up as much as you can. You must think people on this board are really stupid. You do not want to pay taxes because you want more money in your pocket. Companies that want to make money will find more fuel efficient ways of running their business. If they try passing on costs too the customer they will lose market share to more efficient companies. That how free enterprise works.

"Careful. Your wording here could be seen as contradictory to the position you have taken." You know I was be sarcastic because the right wing government in the states is failing miserably The misfortunes of the Liberal Party started with the Adscam. Martin lost because of Adscam. The Conservatives destroyed the Progressive Conservatives because they were not to the right enough. Now they are trying to destroy the Liberal who are central to rigth center. Now after all that they are going to be happy being what the Progressive Conservatives were. That makes no sense. The conservatives will try too move too the right and when they do they will become a fringe party. Someone will fill the void.

I raised 5. Only one had some interest in music but that was short lived. Three had a lot of interest in drama which cost nothing through the school. Three were heavy into sports. That is $2500/yr of tax credits that we would not have been able to use. Do you think $500 is enough to cover the costs of transportation, instrument and music lessons or is still going to be cost prohibitive to a lot of low income parents? What about all the families who have kids with other interest? Is is fair too just target art.

Careful that may come out sounding like there is a lack of qualified MPs which would not be a good selling point for the Tories. Having said that is will not be the first time or the last that has happened but I do not think the public in general like that idea.
-
Justin Trudeau has been described as the closest thing to Canadian royalty. It will be interesting how he does.

I think taxes dollars can be targeted better. Do you think it is a good use of tax payers dollars? It well help lower middle income families but higher income do not need it and the lower income will still not be able too afford it. If instead you offered an untargeted tax credit parents can decide what is best for there children and everyone can use it. I do not consider myself partisan because I have voted for all of the main parties except conservatives(I did vote Progressive conservatives). I am biased against harper because he is not real. He is critical of others leadership yet he himself does not come out as a natural leader.(It all seems packaged like something you would learn in a business class). He seems too me like a fish out of water right now because this centerist platform does not fit into what he believes. He is a round peg in a square hole. So yes right now I will probably come out sounding partisan

If I were running a business and I can run it with 25 people and I they drop my taxes why would I hire more people? It would not be sound financial practice to hire more people than required. If you drop taxes companies can have more money to mechanize therefore needing less people. In the the rail industry profits continue to rise and employment goes down. companies are driven to increase profit by reducing staff. It only works for companies that are boarderline profitable and that would only result in a lot of low paying jobs. Companies will continue to try to sell people on 'if you drop taxes we can create more jobs" because they that way they can pocket more money. Companies should as good corporate citizens pay for their share of the Canadian infrastucture.

http://www.thestar.com/FederalElection/article/505531 Why all this talk of the tories moving to the center? Harper himself have said they are moving to the right. If Harper is successful to destroy the Liberal party as he is attempting some other party will fill the void. Perhaps the old Progressive Conservatives will reappear. The Conservative far right tendencies will end up making them a fringe party in the long term. A lot of the votes they are getting now are because of the Liberal scandal under Chretien. The vast majority of Canadians are center or slightly right of center. They will not tolerate any movement too the far right. Canadians have seen how well a right wing government has worked in the states. Political fortunes could be changing in a hurry. There are already companies filing for bankruptcy protection because of what is going on in the states. The Conservatives should have stuck with Joe Clark or Jean charest. The leader they have in their now will in the long term destroy the party.

Conservative mismanagement in Alberta
independent replied to independent's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
That is the line that companies will tell you but they want to mazimize profit. If they have to pay taxed it is because they are making money. The real problem is the value of the dollar. People with a lot of money would like to keep the dollar value up. If you want to create jobs you drop the value of the dollar making Canada more competive in manufacturing. It is really a struggle between resource rich provinces and provinces depending on maufacturing llike Ontario. -
Tell me what you think about crime and what should be done about it. I most definely should not be sterotyping and sorry I have come out that way. It is not that simple. I certainly would like to prevent the causes of crime instead of having to put people in Jail. I apologise for any misunderstanding and look forward you input.

Conservative mismanagement in Alberta
independent replied to independent's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
http://www.cp24.com/servlet/an/local/CTVNe...2/?hub=CP24Home They are closing the plant because of the value of the Canadian dollar. It is a problem that exist in all the provinces not just in Ontario. There is a high cost of selling manufactured goods in the States. They have made in the states rules where a certain percentage of the product has too be produced there adding huge costs too production. Some people feel are dollar is too high. A lot of times our maufacturing can not compete because of the high cost of labour compared to say mexico. There is a lot more too it besides taxes. Obviously if they are not making money they would not be paying that much taxes. -
No it up to you find the information if you want it. It is of little use to me. I will vote for the party that BEST aligns with my views. On my own I would not be able to deal with all the problems and I have no problem having a government that forces you to pay your fair share. I suggest you check out the Liberterian party for support.

Never said that in the least. Some of the biggest crooks are well to do. We were discussing social problems caused by insufficient means and ability. Not about the greed of rich people. Different discussion all together.
