It was a question not unlike many Dion has been asked in the past and he has answered the question in the past.

http://www.cjad.com/news/565/618692 Ontario historically has done quite well. Did they all of a sudden raise there taxes. The value of the dollar. Labour costs. cost of energy. Marketing of products to the increasing protective American market. More competition from china, korea etc. . Interest rates. Whether there is a labour market with the needed skills. All kinds of thinks can affect a companies ability to make money. If they are paying taxes it is probably because they are profitable. Ontario is not in a position too offer corporate welfare. Governments can assist companies with costs of training employees. quarateed loans too cover the cost of expansion. Lowering our interest rate. which not only makes it cheaper to get loans but it also lower the value of our dollar. Which will make us more competive relative to the states.

http://www.canada.com/reginaleaderpost/new...91-4f712f1e8de3 Harper did amend the equalization formula too the detriment of Ontario. He removed resources from the formula which helped the resource rich provinces. The article above is about Harper defending his equalization formula.

Anyone who has anything against Harper - post here.
independent replied to Hcheh's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You do know that healthcare is primarily a provincial issue and the provinces complained when the federal government tried to tie transfer payments to healthcare. Most provinces do not look kindly at interference from the federal government. Don't get be wrong I would like too see the federal government more involved in healthcare issues. The Federal government still has a huge deficit too pay down. Everytime you pay down the debt there is more money for next year because of less interest charges. -
New Food Inspection System was developed...

Are we talking about the same thing? Are you saying that Easter is behind the decision to allow companies too not report findings. -
New Food Inspection System was developed...

You are the one trying to transfer the blame too the Liberals. I do not think there is a simple answer. I do think the jokes made were inexcusable for a minister to make and should have resulted in his resignation. -
New Food Inspection System was developed...
independent replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
That changes everything the shortages of inspectors and the cruel jokes are all the liberals fault. The Tories followed through on a pilot project started by the Liberals. It has too be the Liberals fault for not getting reelected so they could have made sure the new system was working. -
Election 2008 - CPC - The Way I See There Slide
independent replied to TOhasCLASS's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
He had a huge surplus every year because he budgeted for a huge surplus(Instead of trying to buy votes). Then they took some of the surplus to pay down the debt. Harper took that cushion away so if there were any unexpected expenditure he would either run a deficit or he would have too look for savings somewhere else. I know I learned that with my own finances that it was a good idea too have a cushion in place. The economic mess now is a result of Bush economics which has been praised by Harper. You have to understand that the Harper believes in unregulated business. Let the successful businesses do well and let the poorly run business fail. That in theory will mazimize overall profits. The trouble with that is the workers for the companies tend to pay the price for corporate mismanagement. Things can get quite unstable like it has in the states. Also what happens is there is a very unequal devision of wealth. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. If you believe the rich deserve to be rich and the poor deserve too be poor then Harper is your man. If you believe it the basic premise of free enterprise but want some stabilization then you support the Liberals. If you believe in the basic pemise of free enterprise but want a lot of government tinkering then you should vote for the NDP. -
I cannot agree with your assessment of Harper. Most of what he has done has been muted somewhat because it was a minority government. The Green shift is revenue neutral so it will not hurt the average consumer. The green shift will help some businesses(see new flyer). But at least you have your reasons. Our legal system depends a great deal on body language. If you notice certain things you can tell when someone is lieing or unremorseful or maybe just hiding something. Body language can tell you a lot. Having said that I did not even see the interview in question. What I did is suggest that if you believe some to be arrogant.(I do not believe that all politicians are arrogant) that would be one reason not to vote for someone. The Immigration policy you should look at more closely. It may not be what you think it is. I do believe there needs to be changes. I am not sure Harper is the man for the job. http://www.cbc.ca/manitoba/features/immigr...tics_makes.html

Afghan mission will top $18B by 2011: report
independent replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Canada does not have the equipment too be involved in the type of war going on in Afghanistan. The money invested too fight the battle their comes far short of what is needed too get the job done. If Canada is going to get involved in those kind of battles money should not come into play. We should not be sending troops to war ill prepared. The job that they did is a testament too how good our soldiers are. Canada had a good reputation as a peace keeping nation and should have stuck too that role. We should define the role that Canada is to take and stick too that role. If you try doing too many things you do not do anything well. What we need is an all party agreement with all politics thrown aside. It is my hope that all of the parties are being honest about our role in Afghanistan and are not taking a stand for political gain. -
I agree with you completely. Just do not suggest that dropping taxes of big corporations will automatically increase employment. What creates employment is consumer confidence so companies are willing to expand. People worried about their jobs need more than Harper saying their are good buys in the stock market. They need a government willing too stimulate the economy to get it back on track. They need a government that cares about them and not just certain classes of people. Do I think Dion is capable on his own to fix the economy? NO. Do I think Dion will get the right people in place too find a plan to restore consumer confidence? Yes.

The company I work for has made record profits. They used that money to buy back stocks increasing shareholder value. They bought other companies and then laid off some of their staff. They increased bonuses too top executives. They moved their head office out of Canada to the states. They spent money on new equipment so they can do with less people. What they did is improve share holder value for the people that already have money. The amount of people working for the company have dropped dramatically. I really do not know in what world you live in where companies hire more people just because they have more cash available.

The Difference between a Liberal and Conservative
independent replied to lukin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You could have a good career as a history revisionist. Trudeau studied politics including socialism. He declared the war measures act to deal with the FLQ. http://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.com/ind...s=A1ARTA0008141 -
You do not need proof of address if you are vouched for by someone who has the needed proof.

Where I work less than a month ago they were going to start hiring to replace expected retirees. Just to today they announced cancellation of the hiring because of economic uncertainty. The article I read in the newspaper said there is no way to accurately predict the state of the economy because there is no history. Nothing like this has ever happened before. Everyone at work is very concerned about the economy and can not understand Harper ignoring the problem. What I do know is if the consumer stops buying we will be trouble. Voters are going to be asking themselves which of the parties is most likely to stabilize the economy. Harper needed to step up and say getting the economy back on track is going to be our number one priority. It really make no difference whether he thinks nothing has too be done. The public are not going to buy it. Companies no longer planning on hiring or laying people off are not buying it. The conservative owned newspaper in our area is not buying it. Even if the 33% of voters who still support the conservatives buy into Harpers plan or lack there of that will not be enough too save the the consumer confidence.
-
Those are not traits that show his character. In French he comes over quite differently from what I have been told. That is pure character assassination that has nothing too do with personality.
-
If the average guy on the street decide the economy is about to collapse it will. People stop buying because they are worried about their jobs investments etc. . People lose jobs as a result of no one buying. That is why you need a government that is perceived to be willing to stabilize the economy.
-
If you perceive someone as arrogant that is a reason not too vote for him. Chretien in his later years started coming across as arrogant and I stopped supporting him.

Liberals and NDP fanning the flames
independent replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Read the paper. Economist are not buying it. The voters do not like Harper pretending there is know problem. Maybe if he stated the obvious that what goes on in the states will have an impact on out economy and the measures he put in place will help us weather the storm. But just pretending the problem is not there makes him lose all his credibility. -
New flyer industries a bus manufacturer is doing a great business exporting low polluting buses to the states. Industries that role with it can stand to make a lot of money. Industries that fight it will be leaved behind. Protecting the environment is the in thing whether it is needed or not. Those that do not want to move with the tide will be leaved behind.

Liberals and NDP fanning the flames
independent replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
What the country needs is confidence in the government. If the people start to panic we are in trouble. Harper proposes too do nothing which is contrary to what most economist seem too me saying. You need a government that at least appears like it is taking care of the problem. -
Only 14% of the undecided voters pick the conservatives as their second choice. Not a lot of room for improvement for the Tories.
-
Why do you give a link that counter-dicks everything you just said. It shows Harper backtracking on his previous statements about the economy. You say more things to make Harper look bad than the Liberal supporters.
-
I hope you continue to post because you are making the Harper supporters look very desperate.
