The Federal Republic of Canada

America's view? In spring 2014, there was a vote in Crimea. People there very largely voted in favour of joining the Russian Federation. In summer 2014, I traveled to Crimea. People spoke Russian the same way people in northern Ontario speak French, or even Acadians speak French. They covered their license plates to show they were Russian - not Ukrainian. Imagine French people in Ontario or New Brunswick doing this. ====== Trump is correct. This war should never have started.

Hudson's Bay, Canadian Businesses
August1991 replied to 500channelsurfer's topic in Business and Economy
Disagree. Costco is successful. ==== You Americans have a written agreement between people still respected, honoured. For the British in Canada, the collapse of the Hudson's Bay matters. The Chinese are proud of their written heritage. Do they have something that has lasted longer? -
Trade war against the US / Impact of tarriffs
August1991 replied to QuebecOverCanada's topic in Business and Economy
The US Congress? The American people? Donald Trump has shown signs of tariffs. Sadly, we have elected a federal Canadian government that Trump wants. -
The Economic Policy Trump is Executing
August1991 replied to Goddess's topic in Business and Economy
After the mid-terms of 2026, if the Republicans win, I think Trump as president may impose a federal consumption tax - collected by states. But then he'll reduce federal income tax - he may even remove them. Trump is a weird guy. -

Carney to have MAJORITY in a couple of weeks!
August1991 replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Betsy, I agree. You understand life. -
Agreed. ===== I am sure that Dion and Ignatieff are wondering how Carney did it. Surely the federal Liberal campaign staff feel proud.

Cheese: Why no choice? So expensive!
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Canada / United States Relations
How milk is produced has everything to do with supply management. It requires many female cows - and a few males (bulls). -

Is Quebec's 61% anti-monarchy justified?
August1991 replied to blackbird's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I tend to agree. ==== 1759? Disagree. In 1763, there were two treaties: The Treaty of Hubertusburg - far more important at the time - it decided Saxony. The Treaty of Fontainebleau - important now to us in Canada. -
Open your wallet. Take out a blue five of Laurier or a green twenty of the Queen. Look carefully at the name who signed as Governor. It is likely the name of M. Carney (that's how he signed it at the time). ==== We now have a PM who signed our money - and worked at GoldmanSachs. ========== Pierre Trudeau warned against the concentration of power. IMV, as individuals, our best protection is a federal system: sovereign states within a federal constitution.
-
Many Anglo Central Canadians view as you do. I disagree. IMV, Trump is wily like a fox. Carney is a typical ambitious bureaucrat. ===== Let's see how this plays out.
-
True. I am a foreigner - my father was not born a Canadian.

Immigrants denied Carney his majority
August1991 replied to CdnFox's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Disagree. By historic standards, we Canadians crossed lines and voted Catholic/Protestant. Laurier's English was not perfect - but Anglos voted for him. In America, Catholics view themselves as a minority. JD Vance is now Catholic. -
Robert Bourassa, the Ultimate Comeback Kid

Claude Ryan taught me good French. -
I met Charles - large nose. (I also met Chirac, a smoker.) ==== I'm surprised about Carney's obsession with the British sovereignety. Harper is surely jealous.

Quebec décote, Credit Score
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Foreigners lend money to Hydro-Quebec at low rates because they expect it will pay in the future. Then, Hydro-Quebec gives the money to the Caisse. The Caisse invests the same money with foreigners at higher rates - because the Caisse people are supposedly smart. -
Quebec décote, Credit Score
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Trump certainly understands this. ===== H-Q borrows at low rates, it borrows a lot of money. Then, Quebec creates a Caisse. It saves/invests the same money at higher rates. Leverage.
