More than anything else, I wish for peace. People in Taiwan (like Hongkong) should live well. ===== In 2014, Russia took Crimea without violence. This dispute between Russia/Ukraine could have been resolved peacefully. Since 1991, we live in a New World. We need new counterweights.

This guy Mearsheimer is largely correct but he's wrong about nationalism. Trudeau Snr explained it better. -

Team America? ===== Americans, we in the West, defeated the Communists/Marxists. JFK, Reagan, Eisenhower, Nixon, Vietnam - we in the West won the Cold War. ==== Since 1991, we live in a different world. The world of Canada today and Europe after 1815. -
No disagreement that preferences (I prefer the term orientation) are personal. If there is a single guiding principle, women prefer taller men. Above all - women prefer a man to be taller. ==== Men's preference? You claim that men prefer shorter women. I disagree.

Margaret Thatcher vs Kamala Harris

Peter was 2.03 meters. Lincoln was 1.91. In their time, they were very tall. Chick magnets. -

I agree with deluge. Europe is not that different from America. == Lincoln was tall. Like Peter the First. -

Canada is cold. Unlike California, we will never have a homeless problem. Tax? Everyone around the world knows that the federal Canadian government will never have an Elon Musk, Steve Jobs to tax. The US government borrows at lower rates than our federal government - lower even than Hydro-Québec. -
To return to my OP, Crimea is Russian in the same way that Longueuil is French. (As languages go, the spoken difference between Russian & Ukrainian is about English-Scotland vs English-Alabama). Two Notes: People in West Ukraine (Galicia) were part of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. This is the better part of Ukraine. Ukrainians are both Catholic and Orthodox (Ukrainian Catholic priests can marry.) ==== Taipei is 1950s architecture - but food from all China.

After the cataclysms of 1789-1815, in 1815 in Vienna, Europe created a structure of peace. This structure lasted for 100 years, This structure collapsed in summer 1914. Then, for 30 years, utter mayhem ensued. In Yalta/Potsdam in 1945, Europe created a structure of peace. It collapsed in 1991. Since 1991, Europe (the World) needs a new structure. Like 1815. ==== We are facing a collapse like summer 1914

RB may disagree but I agree with you, most women prefer taller men. Yet when some men prefer larger bosoms, RB states: "Everyone has their own unique qualities... " ==== IME, many men are happy with a woman with a small bosom. Few women seek a shorter man. So tell me: who is shallow? Women or men?

To return to my OP, the US is a Ponzi scheme: its total government debt (federal/state) is above 100% and rising faster than US GDP. In Canada, our government (federal.provincial) debt to GDP ratio is rising also - but ours is well below 100%, and Quebec has a Caisse. Unlike America, our debt/GDP ratio is less than our GDP growth. Unlike America, Canada is cold - we have fewer homeless people. And unlike America, our governments have no one rich to tax, -

Kim Campbell = Kamala Harris -
In 1970, Nixon did the same as Trump. Trudeau Snr sent emissaries south. ==== When Trudeau Snr went south, he spoke in the US Congress and reminded everyone about sport fans: most New York hockey players are born in Canada, and most Toronto baseball players are born in America. We Canadians want the Chicago Black Hawks to win. Americans want the Maple Leafs to win. Canadians want American baseball players to win. Americans want Canadian hockey players to win. === There is an important Canadian lesson in this.

Disagree. In these 2020s, we Canadians can make a difference. Like Nixon, Kissinger and Trudeau Snr, we can create counterweights; a structure of peace. -

In Canada, we cannot deduct local taxes from our federal taxes. Except in Quebec. Trump fixed that. -
Is that the term?

Trump changed SALT. Google it. -
After 1815, at the Congress of Vienna, Europe established a century of peace. The world needs this now.
-
Ordinary people want to live in peace. Jake Sullivan and Anne Applebaum want to win, dominate the world, make the world like America. ---- We now live in a multi-polar world. Lik.e Vienna in 1815, Truman in 1945. This is not the 1930s

Agreed, more or less. IMHO, sorry to be a geek, is our debt-to-GDP rising? Are we Argentina? -
