Looking back. in Europe, there were three great periods of "wars"/ 1616-1646 -Thirty Years 1789-1815 -Napoleonic 1914-1945 -Germanic

By curiousity, I went and looked at the battlefields of the Seven Years War and the Napoleonic Wars, I walked around them. The so-called war in 1757-1763 was largely a dispute between Austria and Prussia involving Saxony. There were two treaties: One important treaty signed in Hurtursburg, Saxony. The other signed in a palace south of Paris. Napoleon, like Hitler, wanted to re-make history.

The essence of Trumpism

In effect,, myata, you are describing Biden. -
Beaumont-Hamel I strongly recommend anyone with a Newfoundland connection to go and and see this place in Europe. The summer of 1914. Such folly. I fear that our Gulfstream elites in these 2020s -just as clueless.

Duplessis shut down others. Our current best protection against idiocy is our Charter. -
1. AG, have you been to Dieppe? Walked around? Up the coast to the burial site. I did with with my daughter. 2. Disagree. The best structure of peace is a wise stable system: counterweights.

Americans are self-centred - they have no understanding of irony. In Canada, in federal and provincial elections, we go to a local place and select a single candidate. In America, the ballot is now like our census form with many questions.

AG, I no longer drink and drive. Thank God, I did not have to pay for my foolishness. The cost of a life? About $20 million. Younger, I wonder if someone had imposed this premium on me - if I had done what I did.

Feds Delay MAID for Mental Health again

I disagree. Abortion and MAiD (medically-assisted death) are not murder, killing. -
Clueless Canadian politics and the climate change
August1991 replied to myata's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
From what I understand, as measured by a place in Hawaii, CO2 in the atmosphere has risen from 320 ppm to 400 ppm. Apparently, we have to reduce our CO2 emissions. There are several ways to stop something: tax, regulate or subsidise an alternative. I favour a tax on CO2 emissions. To me, Teslas and EVs are subsidiised, expensive toys for rich people. When asked, they still have an SUV in the basement to keep the beer cold. -
No one wants to pay tax. (Fine, agree.) More painful, possibly, is the way the tax is collected/calculated. (Why? How?) ====== In this modern world, in civilised Canada. we want to pay our taxes easily, quickly, online: Revenu Quebec works (I hate them but they are correct.) Canada Revenue Agency does not work.

No. He lost. No way. ==== I would not be surprised if Trump chose Haley as VP candidate. In SC, she won as a governor. And watch what happens in Nevada: caucus/primary.

Thread drift ahead. (Or thread return to OP.) There are 6 or 7 "battleground" states: Arizona, Nevada, Michigan, Wisconsin, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Minnesota. Each of these states has critical urban counties. And each state allows send-out ballots, mail-in votes. (In Canada, these ballots are like our census forms.) ===== IMHO, Trump will not win any of these 7 states.

Well said. In finance, they say: diversify. Life itself has its own way to force us to diversify. We are forced to live among people of different ages.
