Our Census Form vs Their Ballot
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Nowadays, since 2020 or so, the American vote/ballot is like our Canadian census form. Young people want to do good. -
Our Census Form vs Their Ballot
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Disagree. ==== In Canada, we go in person, show who we are, and then behind a blind, we put an X beside a single name. -
Charles? Paul McCartney? ==== This thread is about death. The end. As Shakespeare said, "... this endless sleep."

We in Canada get along. For many centuries, we Canadians have a system that works -
Putin Interview with Carlson -Feb 2024
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in The Rest of the World
Carlson's questions were so foolish, naive. Putin's way of speaking in Russian remind me of Trudeau Snr. -
Trust me, this interview will be famous. 1. Carlson was clueless. 2. Putin speaks in Russian like Trudeau, Levesque spoke in French.

Clueless Canadian politics and the climate change
August1991 replied to myata's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
IMHO, we should reduce our CO2 emissions. (To be honest, I don`t know if CO2 is critical - the models are really bad.) But we're rich enough to buy an insurance policy - and the cheapest/best policy is a carbon tax. ====== More generally, I think that local habitats need protection. We are creating greater harm to our planet locally. And I think that we need a better understanding of planet environments. Rather than seeking ways to send humans to the Moon or Mars (humans cannot and will never live on either), we should understand the environment of Venus, Mars and the moons of the outer planets. ==== IMHO, we face a greater risk of a catastrophic asteroid arriving from the sunside than a tipping point due to CO2 in the atmosphere. If I were a politician, I would tax CO2 and use the revenues to help people - and hire engineers to check for incoming asteroids. -
The federal Liberals are on the wrong side of this issue: https://www.journaldemontreal.com/opinions/joseph-facal Le vent change de direction.

Popular vote in November 2024? The Dems/Biden will win the popular vote. They have California and New York. But as a foreigner, I would look at the popular vote in Florida - and maybe Texas. ==== Given how certain counties vote in critical states, Trump has no chance of winning the electoral college. Or the popular vote overall. Biden will win bragging rights.

Decline? Years ago, people like Jimmy Stewart bombed killed innocent civilians. IMHO, a civilised State allows killing - I have no objection to capital punishment or abortion.
-
Disagree. The State allows killing, death. ==== To be plain, I have no objection to abortiion, Maid, or capital punishment.

Robert Redford vs Donald Trump
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Redford is not opposed to America. His movie Quiz Show rather favours America. -

Robosmith - good luck with that definition in the LLMS. -
Robert Redford vs Donald Trump
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Trump knows that Trump knows he's American. Trump is self aware. Redford doesn't. -
I disagree. Like abortion, or capital punishment, or sending soldiers to kill or die - the State should allow death.
-
Americans like Redford are not self-aware, they have no sense of irony. Americans like Trump? They know the game.

Clueless Canadian politics and the climate change
August1991 replied to myata's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Well said. ===== Faced with the invasion of Russia, Stalin was afraid to travel by plane. Churchill flew to Newfoundland, Tehran, Yalta, Potsdam. -
IMHO, the revolution was in 1979 or so. Deng Xiao Ping. Remarkably peaceful.

AG, Good point. In my next Canadian election (municipal, provincial, federal), I am going to show a purple finger. I voted. Once. In a democracy.

The essence of Trumpism
August1991 replied to myata's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Incite a riot? Nixon tried, Obama listened into what the opponent was doing. -
RB, good to see you here. ===== IMHO, this is a disaster designed by autistic bureaucrats, politicians (eg. Harper). CPP/RRQ is for people who are bad at math.

The essence of Trumpism
August1991 replied to myata's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Everything that Myata in this OP says about Trump could just as easily be said about Obama, Democrats. -
People in Argentina live in peace. People in Belgium, every so often, have to hide.
