Anyone who has anything against Harper - post here.
kengs333 replied to Hcheh's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The Harris Tories happily attacked the Ontario health care system, would have done it with or without Ottawa. -
Not really, no. Harper is pretty controlling in the manner in which he muzzles his MPs, tries to control the media. When supporters of the Cons suggest that people should not vote, that smacks of fascism.

Not an issue.

Actually, I think I should be asking you that... Don't worry, lots of people believe in UFOs. It's okay to admit it...

McHale running as an Independent in election

I'm thinking about 75% of members of Six Nations has a criminal record. Drug, alcohol, and violent crime is above average on SN, and Indian communities in general. About 6000 cars were stolen and dumped on SN, which is about one for every two residents. Are you telling me that 62,000 cars were stolen in Brantford last year? -

The way they conduct themselves has a direct negative impact on my society and my country, so don't bloody tell me not be concerned their "business". Yeah, it couldn't have anything to do with the fact that many people on Six Nations are theives. I think of that kid last years who was killed when he and his buddy stole an SUV in St. Kitts. Or how many times "Ohsweken" is stated as place of residence for someone convicted of auto theft. -

Feel free to leave, then. We don't need you or you type in this country. Members of Six Nations had and still have obligations that they must live up to. The Crown granted the land along the Grand in return for assistance that was provided during the American Revolution. This does not mean that the members of Six Nations had the right to live dissolute lives as drunkards incapable of managing their own affairs--this is all well documented--and the did not have the right to terrorize, abduct, and murder their neighbours--this is also documented. I think if you really cared to look at the history of Six Nations, you would realize that the government for a long time allowed Six Nations to function on its own accord but that Six Nations perpetually was a source of problems. Only with great reluctance did the government step in and force Six Nations to adapt to modern society, and in so doing probably ensured its survival. Had Six Nations kept accurate and legally acceptable records of its land dealing from the very beginning, you would not have the problems that you do. I must say it is a very odd arrangement that the Six Nations are allowing us to live on their land, when it is the Crown that purchased land from the Ojibway in order to grant it to Six Nations to live on. If the land was theirs in the first place, then why did they accept it from the Crown, and why are they now disputing land claims using the law of the people that they are allowing to live on their land????? Ever heard of LOGIC? Or perhaps because Aristotle was a European, you don't feel oblidged to think logically becuase its "Eurocentric"? -
There's a theory that the "meteorite" was actaully an atomic powered vehicle that lost control and accidently entered Earth's atmosphere... The similarity between eyewitness reports of the explosion and the aftermath, and that of atomic bomb detonations has also been noted. Are you implying, then, that there is some credibility to the effect that this could have been an nuclear explosion? It would seem to me that suggesting that the Tunguska event is actually the result of a UFO exploding is really stretching it.

Slim minority either way, but probably for the Conservatives...

New Food Inspection System was developed...

LOL. The Cons adopted a Liberal initiative and got burned as a result? Clearly if there was something wrong with it, then why didn't they do something about it instead of just going through with it? So really it is their fault: they still failed to protect the public.... -

I guess being in Opposition most of the time makes the Cons forget that it's usually the sitting government that takes the fall for the mistakes of past governments; the Canadian public usually doesn't discriminate by party in these sorts of situations, rather simply views it as the fault of "the government". Well, won't be long now until the Cons are back at doing what they do best: hypocritically bleeting from side of the Opposition.... -
No thanks to the Conservatives. Had Harper had a majority, what kind of a mess would we be in...?

I wonder what "margin of error (+/-) 1.7" means? There has been a noticeable downward trend for the Cons the last week or so, this only seems to suggest that it is stabilizing, not going back up. I think the 30-35% range is what the party could always have counted on, so it means that they really haven't made any gains in this election or haven't screwed things up enough to shift support to other parties. So its a matter of what portion of the remaining 65% the other parties will get, and as we all should know, there is a good chance that there will be an election day shift to the Liberals. The Greens always poll high, getting half on election day; many NDP supporters will vote Liberal in ridings where the Liberals have a chance of winning. If the Greens are at 10 or 11%, they should get at most 6% on election day. The NDP will probably get 15 to 18%. The Bloc will drop to about 8%. So my guess is: Lib 35% CPC 34% NDP 16% Green 6% Bloc 8% Other 1%

The failure to properly notify the public and avoid most if not all of the deaths in this outbreak are the result of a change that happened in April of this year, because of the Conservative government, while the Conservative government was in power. That's all there is to it. Where's the transparent and accountable Conservative government that we were promised? They caused a problem and should be admitting guilt. Instead, we find them avoiding, denying and making sick jokes; and their starry-eyed supporters making lame excuses and passing the blame. -
To even suggest that people should not have the right to vote speaks volumes. Just another example of how Conservatives lean dangerously towards being fascists...
-
The simple answer is that you can't. I've seen your fancifully nonsensical ravings about Conservative fiscal imprudence, your defense of Mulroney's destruction of our economy in the late 80s and early 90s. I don't know why I even dignify your crude and obtuse posts.

Sorry, but the stock market is dropping because investors are panacking, and every market analyst, economist that I've seen discussing this current crisis is describing it it very dire language. I think Dion and Layton are simply being more realistic and honest about what is happening--well, as much as a politician can be during an election campaign.

Unless the demand is for 1 widget every other day. When lots of people lose lots of money, they have less money to spend, less confidence to spend, which means that buy less widgets. If a business is given a tax cut so that it supposedly can invest in growth, when there is no chance of that happening, where does the money go?

Oh, here we go again. Not Canadian you say? Where do they get their social assitance from, and in what currency? What government agencies do they work with in establishing their social and educational programs? It's absolutely absurd to claim that they are not Canadian. If they are not Canadians, then any and all benefits and services provided to Canadian services should be stopped at once, and they should be removed from this country as any illegal alien should be. As for it not being "none of our business" what happens in their community, you've got to be nuts. Six Nations is the centre of crime in this region. How many "smoke shops" are operating on Six Nations? What about the smuggling, organized crime, human trafficking? Over 6,000 stolen cars are tracked back to Six Nation per year. Domestic violence rates are 8 time that of non-aboriginal communities, rampant teen pregnancy, fetal alcohol syndrome is pandemic. You're telling me that the rest of us should not be concerned about these people? -
So much of our food is coming from or contains ingredients from China, and here is yet another example of why this is a serious concern. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2008/10/08/...e-melamine.html

Did Harper peak too early? I don't think so...
kengs333 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I think secretly he though he had a majority in the bag from the outset and would simply coast into it while the other four parties squabbled and divided up the "left-wing" vote. It all started going down hill when he dragged his heals about the leadership debate... He knew May was going to be trouble; but by trying to keep her out, he looked bad, and then looked worse once she had a go at him. The Greens may not win a seat, but they had a considerable impact on this election... -
Or maybe you missed this part of my response in post #57: "Hate to break it to you, but the Roman Empire doesn't exist anymore. Nor does Charlemagne's Empire, the Holy Roman Empire, the Byzantine Empire... Political entities form, and then break apart again. This has happened all throughout history. To suggest that this sort of thing cannot happen to the United States is absurd. Well, it already happened once, and was ruthlessly suppressed." Looks to me like you have a reading comprehension problem. Goodness, what an absurd statement... Is my use of the term state in a general and specific manner in the same argument confusing you?

Sometime over the weekend I should be posting something, and I'll out-do all of yous guys by doing it by riding, or at least provincially...
