What percentage of the Canadian voters are going to read about it or see the media spin of it in the news tomorrow? There was nothing about it that really was defining, no major blunder or anything, but if there had everybody would know about it tomorrow and it would have an impact.

Harper's plagiarized 2003 Iraq speech

What about the bag that Mulroney left the Liberals, or the bag that the Harris Tories left McGuinty? Some of the same turkeys that were responsible for the Common Sense Revolution are now screwing Canada at the federal level. -

Extreme Right-Wing politicians (ie. extremists) is something that is more appropriately applied to the likes of fascists/neo-Nazis. Sweet is a Conservative, but not an "extremist". (Incidently, extremists like the Nazis practices euthenasia, which is more along the lines of what radical feminist pro-abortion types want.) That aside, you are a complete and utter fool trying to gain support for the Greens by referring to an oppenent as a bigot, hate-mongerer, and misogynist ("A vote for him is a vote for bigotry, hate-mongering, misogynism"). The guy has a wife and kid, and I doubt that you can really find any evidence to substantiate any of your claims. Moreover, by "David Sweet led a national religious think tank group that is pro-life"--don't you mean CHRISTIAN? God knows, that you would NOT be making an issue of this were he a Catholic, let alone a Jew or Muslim. Evangelical Christians have as much right to participate in Canadian politics than people of any other faith. Oh, and then I look at this: http://www.abitofmylife.com/100-bucks-says...-guy-in-ottawa/ Are you mentally insane? The guy is an Independent candidate, not an MP. Learn how to READ before you go around slandering people... -

I don't think that "Hollywood" ever produced a movie about the Iroquois war against the Huron and Neutrals, Hollywood in general avoiding anything that has to do with Canadian history My middle school (grades 6 to 8) history courses presented a very sanitized and idealized portrayal of Indians, quite the opposite which you persistantly and ignorantly claim. Name one "modern and authentic" historian that supports your warped views. "On 19 April, 1652, an entry in the "Journal" optimistically rehearses the news brought on 10 March, by an escaped Huron captive, to the effect that the Neutrals had formed an alliance with the Andastes against the Iroquois; that the Senecas, who had gone on the warpath against the Neutrals, had suffered so serious a defeat that the families of the Senecas were constrained to flee from Sonnontouan, and betake themselves to Ononen, otherwise Goioguen, a Cayuga town (Journ. des Jés., 166-67; Clev. ed., XXXVII, 97). The general dispersion of the Neutrals, following close on their disaster at the hands of the Iroquois, is described in Relation 1651 (Queb. ed., 4, 2; Clev. ed. XXXVI, 177); but the direction of their flight is not indicated, save by the words; "they fled still further from the rage and cruelty of the conquerors"—which means, no doubt, that the general trend of their precipitous retreat was towards the West. The great number of prisoners carried off by the Iroquois is mentioned particularly, and especially the young women led into captivity to become wives of their captors. Now, now... don't get all mad on us now. The point is that regardless of what you think of a leader or the party, at times, given that we are in a democracy, people have to look at things in terms of principle not partisan politics.
-
Give it a rest. Look at all of the previous leadership debates and you'll see that emotions run high from time to time. What about Mulroney's fit about Turner's patronage appointments? So you're just crowing because you don't like May, not because she really did anything wrong. If you need to ask "how is democracy served" then I'm guess you really don't know what democracy means. She is the leader of a political party that received 660,000+ votes in the last election, has a sitting MP, and consistantly polling much higher this time around. She has every right to be there, and should not have been barred in the first place.

Hopefully, one day it will sink in: it's not for you to say. Many people would have argued that the Reform Party was a waste of time, so to the UFA way back when, or any other party that isn't the Conservatives or Liberals for that matter; but the fact is that the Greens are a significant political party in the country now, and they have every right to participate in the debate. You being a chemical intensive Western farmer, I fully understand why you don't want her to...

Goodness! The Nazis were fascists: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fascism Fascists are anti-liberal, anti-capitalist, and anti-communist... So you're confusing the concept of totalitarianism with "left-wing": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Totalitarianism Moreover, the Nazis derived support from ultraconservative right-wing political and paramilitary organizations: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stahlhelm,_Bu...r_Frontsoldaten http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DNVP

Sure, whatever... so in other words you lucked out one year and that necessitates you going around acting superior. Cubans aren't spending your tax money, though. So how much of the cost of this truck can really be attributed to the actual manhours as opposed to all of the other overhead costs? The fact that you put yourself in a position to need such an over-priced gas-guzzeler is your problem, so too bad so sad--but again, I don't care. It's funny how you just happen to luck out one year and suddenly you become so arrogant that you now think people have to meet certain criteria in order to complain... Well, whatever the case, you obviously missed the fact that my reference to taxpayers was simply a poke at the standard neocon whine about people wasting taxpayers money, which also happened to materialize in your reponse. -
What about her performance?
-
Please don't tell me that you're going to vote for the Greens.
-
Despite mass demonstrations and regimentation, Nazi ideology hinged on the individual. The Nazis NEVER practiced collective agriculture, and drew their support from ultraconservative right-wing groups before they came to power. Their arch-enemy were the Communists. Face it, you're simply wrong on this one. Stick to farming.
-
And the Communist East Germany were democratic -- ie. German Democratic Republic
-
She was invited. Too bad that in a democracy a party that gets 660,000+ votes in an election has to put up a fuss to get invited to a leadership debate. For someone who hates Cuba so much, you sure have a questionable attitude towards democracy.

It was a reaction to the crisis, though. But in doing what they're doing they're causing problems elsewhere in Britain. Some day the US is going to be on the receiving end of that kind of arrogance. No country should be forced to maintain a certain political structure to suit the US, not Cuba, not Canada. Helping your neighbours means nothing if you think everybody else is a loser. That's really quaint. Live by the sword, die by the sword. The next time I hear farmers bleeting about how hard they have it, I'll think of you and just not care. Obviously these guys are just out to bilk the Canadian taxpayer just like every other special interest group. -
"Historical" Party Leaders' Debates
kengs333 replied to PoliticalCitizen's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
So everybody who thought that five people would be too many now has been proven wrong. I only saw the end, but Dion seemed to handle himself okay. But of the real test is tomorrow; we'll see how much his English will falter. As for Harper, he seemed to almost have a pained look on his face at time and one can only imagine that he was stewing inside. Perhaps tomorrow in English May will be able to better push his buttons. I love her comments after the debate; she's going after the women, and there's nothing women love more than their children and can't stand less than a non-communicative man. -

"The Irish Government announced the guarantee in an attempt to avert a run on the Republic’s banks. Irish bank shares crashed on Monday amid fears that depositors were pulling out their money." http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/busi...icle4856987.ece If the US decided to blockade Manitoba because of its socialist NDP government, it would rapidly decline. I know that geographically Cuba, an island, and Manitoba, a province in a country, are not quite the same, but you know what I mean, right? Cuba's economy is oppressed by the US, not the fact that it is a socialist country. Quality of life is not just material. I think one of the most surprising things about you is that the supposed hard-working farmer is probably more strident about his financial and material success than most of the white collar paperpushers that populate my part of the province. If you're a Christian, you might want to reread those parts of the Gospel that deal with compassion for your fellow man and the evils of material wealth. -

Okay, we'll see how Ireland does this year with most of its crops rotting in the fields... and the unemployment rate increasing... and people making a run on the banks... and all that. Cuba may not play the economy game the way you've been brainwashed to believe that it has to be played, but one thing is for sure: 100% self-sufficiency means that they can weather tough economic times better. -

My sentiments exactly. On a similar note, according to MacLean's the Conservatives have (had) the highest percentage of non-university educated MPs at about 41%. Doesn't come as a surprise, really, if one watches the HoC when it's in session, and it's no wonder that the party attracts the likes of some of the people who post here.
